Guys, falcon still lives. After all the years, for the first time Falcon 4.0 (1998) has been modded almost to perfection with new physics and directx 9 graphics. We are talking about a serious simulation of the F-16 here. It's called Falcon BMS 4.32
I purchased this game in early 1993 when I was 25 years old. I thought it was the best. I would play it all the time. Watching these clips brings back a lot of memories.
Loved this, TFX, Jetfighter II, MSFS 95, and Strike Commander back in the day. I wish sims and sim-based action games (read: not Ace Combat) were still popular enough to get attention..
@AreciboNadare Yeah, the market is so small, it's a real risk for developers to make games like the incredibly badass DCS: A-10C Warthog (just came out) and the new IL2: Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover. But nonetheless, they make em, and those two are really really awesome.
I have been obsessed with this game since playing it in the 90s. One of those games that I always wished I was better at but always got pwned - particularly by the murderous little shoulder-mounted stingers that were impossible to shake - and like an old girlfriend that "got away" I always wanted to return to Falcon. It ruined me for other flight sims. To this day it is still the yardstick by which I measure flight sims.
the gameplay was hard during that time if you now play lockon or similar flight sims its easier i more played f-15 strike eagle during that time it was easiere and the graphics wher nicer
Also a pretty decent depiction of avionics. I don't know of many sims in the early 90's that had IFF, 4 modes for targeting, near-real missile lock, radar jamming (not only for the enemies, they could jam you as well!) and many others.
Coming to a conclusion, all serious sims from 1995 onwards had most of these features, yet Falcon 3.0 was the first that utilized them.
@gerodinis The avionics in this game was indeed fine, and it got better with Hornet and Fulcrum add-ons. The other thing about this game was the dynamic campaign, and also the realistic depiction of tactics. If you didn't think before entering a fight or a bombing run, you got waxed every time. And the enemy ground defenses were scary realistic. Pure joy, nobdy makes flight sims like this anymore, not for profit anyway (Free Falcon lives on).
people lol'ing over the graphics should be reminded that the realism of this combat flight sim was unmatched for like a decade (or whenever falcon 4.0 came out). gameplay was super engrossing, and regardless, graphics were amazing for the time (polygons!). there was a time when people let their imagination fill in the gaps. also, at one time people read books!
If they thing that sim is funny and go "OOOOHHHH WTF IS THIS $#!T YOU JUST SHOWED TO ME?", explain them the advantages it had compared to the simulators of its time.
Graphics: 3D ground, HUGE map area based on real maps, decent polygon models for every object (OK, excluding vehicles!) etc.
Realism: The first sim to use real simulator data. Where "real" insert "the best they could do on a 386 at 33 MHz".
...not to mention that included all the things that todays modern sims have, views, padlock, campaign, mission editor, everythin' todays feature was implemented at that time... impressive. I bought this along with the other released packs... on the dawn of the gulf war this was a must have...
Hehe, people moan about allied force's graphics... they should be grateful. This was stunning stuff for its time, but it looks awful now! Still, an incredibly fun "sim"? for its time.
@sentient02970 yes for sure!!!! even the red out whas a great piece of graphic! , hahah , sorry i react to this comment but i also love to say i have great great memory,s to this game , my father is one of those fighterplane adicts...lucky me , until 1996 i had the chance to play al those games , retaliator , straike commander, tfx f3.0 f4.0 al those games sopmehow are outstanding great!!! even the graphics wher far beyond what whas average that time
@sentient02970 Yes! I remember those black outs! Did they also have white outs if it was positive G's? Ah the memories. Hands down one of the most enjoyable games/sims I've ever played on a computer.
Brings back great memories! That must have been a slow PC.Remember it being smooth with all max on my 486.Just like shadow wrote, spent many all-nighters playing this game.Remember well when playing training missions (Red flag?) seeing the sign at runway saying 'elvis lives'
@Mahatma618 Yeah it was a great game for that time. I also remember Elvis Lives in Nevada. There have also been horses and cowboys on their backs near the Great Canyon you could shoot with your cannon.
@Mahatma618 It might that he doesn't have a math coprocessor. I remember this was one of the first applications that really took advantage of the 387 and 487.
WHY ARE THERE NO VIDEOS ON FALCON 8.0??
