Floor temps are always much less, so unless we were dragging downed firefighters accross the ceilings, we have seen no problems to date. I am sure there will be someone out there who will leave the device in a flashover just to see what happens but that was not what it was designed to do and nor were firefighters.
If the device is exposed long enough to melt and fail, no human should be in that environment. We have tested the unit in flashover containers and have had the unit deployed in well over 800 degrees, we were able to shine the surface, however never get a full cook that would distort the unit, we would have been fried ourselves if we would have waited to see that happen.
This unit while on a RIT members back entering a structure should be as low as possible where the FireFighter will also be. Once deployed again it will be closer to the floor level where it is being dragged. Also the victim/Downed FireFighter will be shielding the DRAGONE by lying on the device.
Everything can melt that you are wearing in your NFPA Fire Gear. The DRAGONE is made from flame resistant HDPE which will not allow it to catch on fire as any other plastic would. The real answer to your question is that it takes 12 minutes at 550 to melt this when we mold it.
