NOTE: Bob Wills was there in Tulsa, as well, (little me not knowing him then), and I enjoyed fried potatoes mom fixed, with ice brought home by my father, and while Ice picking for our iced tea we would soak in Leon McAuliffe ... "take It Away Leon" music, and Johnnie Lee." I worked for The Dallas Times Herald, and Bob was there for a promotional interview with our features department, about his new happenings in Ft. Worth, Texas, around 1962 ish.
Bob Wills was the "greatest", but I have a story to tell about Bob. At 18years old I sat down to eat barbeque at a crowded joint, where everyone shared tables. My conversation with Bob went this way: He asked me "do you like western music?", and I said flatly, YES. He asked me "who is your favorite singer?", and I said flatly, "Johnnie Lee Wills, and he announced to me that he was Bob Wills, and we laughed and each enjoyed a bar-be-que sandwich together.
