I would like to add that in chapter 9 of the Quran, Muhammad tells his believers to adhere to their duty to allah, it goes on to say in verse 123 that those who believe must kill those who do not believe so that they may know your harshness. @elliesmall I want to remind you that the bible also wasnt originally written as a collection of books. It is from a series of scrolls, historical accounts, songs and letters. It was put together as one text much later. It is ok to find fault in one author or letter, but to dismiss the entire thing is silly. The book of enoch for example was not even placed in the bible, though it should be. Many cultures speak of what went on in the book, yet they never had interaction. It is a mystery.

Basically, monks have gone through the whole thing in an attempt to make sure everything made sense. However, they missed many, many things, which is why the whole thing is so contradictory. :)

Its kind of hard to "alter" some of the original text, and since so many of the texts have been copied by scribes, its hard to alter one while another version exists elsewhere. So in truth, its fairly unaltered. Rather, perhaps you should learn hebrew and figure out if the translation makes sense to you.

I would like to add that in chapter 9 of the Quran, Muhammad tells his believers to adhere to their duty to allah, it goes on to say in verse 123 that those who believe must kill those who do not believe so that they may know your harshness. This is one of the most direct calls for murder in the Quran...sadly one of many. @XMansv That's not what it says. That verse is attributed to a specific war where non-Muslims had planned to murder all the Muslims and Muhammad while conspire with a much stronger pagan force who had besieged their town. Back then things worked differently.
In Bible (and Torah) god equally commands the Israelites to commit genocide against non-Jews, e.g. Canaanites without even giving them any choice.

If not, you should before you "open your mouth". The old testament and the new testament are two different collections of books/letters you know that? The old is history, reference and symbolism. He is referring to the LAWS of the Jewish people at a specific part of their history, meaning the ten commandments. He goes on to elaborate the laws of which he speaks. Murder caused by anger, not to commit adultery..ect none of which you can say is bad for society. He also fixes what the old were telling them, such as going against an "eye for an eye".

Even Jesus existed according to the Romans. He was executed. Remember, Romans had law and order, they kept track of much and of this we can continue to confirm. @elliesmall I want to remind you that the bible also wasnt originally written as a collection of books. It is from a series of scrolls, historical accounts, songs and letters. It was put together as one text much later. It is ok to find fault in one author or letter, but to dismiss the entire thing is silly. The book of enoch for example was not even placed in the bible, though it should be. Many cultures speak of what went on in the book, yet they never had interaction. It is a mystery.

@Shiftfallout No mysteries. It has been shown that the bible has been altered, and that accounts from earlier times have been changed to correspond with the latter part of the book. Basically, monks have gone through the whole thing in an attempt to make sure everything made sense. However, they missed many, many things, which is why the whole thing is so contradictory. :)

@elliesmall any examples to prove your claim? Who are these "monks"? Which parts have been "altered"? You do know that we still have the original dead sea scrolls dont you? Its kind of hard to "alter" some of the original text, and since so many of the texts have been copied by scribes, its hard to alter one while another version exists elsewhere. So in truth, its fairly unaltered. Rather, perhaps you should learn hebrew and figure out if the translation makes sense to you.

The theology and denominations of Islam is as diverse as christianity. There are over 2 billion Muslims, and more than one nuclear armed Islamic nation. If all Muslims followed that Wahhabi dogma, we would be in a nuclear winter by now.
At one point and time, christianity was even more violent and intolerant when compared with Islam, but the centuries of humanism and secularism to put it bluntly cut off the balls of christianity.
