  • If Berry can play the bass well, why does it matter how he holds it? Pussies gettin' mad over nothing.

  • @AlexMakesThings he cant slap, can he?

  • @MultiBpv So? If he never needs to slap, then there's no problem.

  • @AlexMakesThings People get mad when they see something they don't quite understand. With that said, I don't understand how he doesn't have wrist problems and/or CTS from the way he holds it. You'd think it'd be tiring at the least.

Alex Webster is pretty fucking awesome, as was Jo Sallins. Also, is Chris Kuff playing Scooby Doo???

  • alex should've played Frantic Disembowelment to shock those funky guys lol!

  • lol they all fail cos they arent claypool

  • typical nigger cant even figure out up from down

  • Has anyone told that Berry fellow that there is a left handed bass available! He looks F**kin stupid!

  • Alex is fucking awesome! Best basist ever!

  • Dan Briggs from BTBAM shreds a spector 5 string

  • What spector model is jo sallin using?

  • Dam!! you all are killin,Blessings Andy

  • lol, quintin berry is undeniably the coolest human being to ever slap de bass 3:10

  • les claypool pwns jo sallins

  • joe sallins is pretty good

  • alex webster rules

  • Steve Harris , Lemmy Kilminster , Les claypool .... You could go on n on about the greatest bass players .. loads of em out there.

  • Alex Webster is the best at what exactly? Playing the bass? Certainly not, at least not in this video. He seemed very stiff and amateurish. The first guy's "Theme from the Pink Panther" stold the show.

  • Comment removed

  • there shoulda been a lynn davis and alex webster combo XD

  • Long live Cannibal Corpse's Alex Webster..best 4 sure..

  • Alex Webster is the best.

  • webster is fuckin insane at bass beats the fuck out of all these other bassist

  • webster tears all these guys apart

  • Jo Sallins is the fuckin man dude!

  • not gonna lie...i think the spector tone is just too thin and "clicky"

  • Maybe in this video, but don't say it like he has bad technique in general.

  • does anyone know what alex is tapping is that a song? i saw him doing it in some other vids

  • Its Pink Panther

  • what a song or from the movie

  • i fucking hate the way that berry guy holds his bass..

  • Agreed.

  • @mokeanL i know what a spaz

  • @mokeanL He holds it that way cause he was a violin player for many years and it was natural to him...

  • @mokeanL well every body have there on style of doing things now would u be mad if i said i hate the way you fuckn getn on line and talk about folks u dont even no!lol just sayn

  • @andreking84 ur mad everyone agrees with me, i just noticed i got thumbs up lol!

  • @mokeanL I hope someone already told him lol

  • JO SALLINS!!!!

  • Alex Wester is great man.

  • quintin berry es increible......., asombroso

  • Does anyone know where I could get a hold of a spector besides online? I know Guitar Center doesn't carry them, and I've been wanting to play one for a while, and Im thinking of buying one, but I want to get a hold of one first. Also, are Spectors good for Jazz and funk?

  • You're best shot is to either go on the official Spector website and look to see if there's any local stores near you that carry spector, or you can order a spector directly from any music store.

Since I'm left handed, I don't have any other option but to order directly from a local store...lol

  • Spector makes a very well rounded bass good for all genres of music. Sam Ash is a carrier; if they don't have any check out some local music shops. You might be in for a pleasant surprise.

  • just buy one at sam ash. Some colors of the spector legend classic (bolt on neck, emg soapbars, active electronics, korean made) are retailing for $399 on a bass that costs around $800

  • i would think they're good for anything seeing as they're so much but from the sound of it some of this stuff sounds jazzy and funky

i just want one for metal

  • dude alex is the best metal bassist alive and he plays spector.

  • to damn right

  • @Tysnatch

One of my favorites is Dan Briggs.

He's been playing the same Spector 5 string since he was 16, he's in his mid 20's now I believe.

From the band Between the Buried and Me.

  • Dan Briggs is sic.

and i want his bass haha

  • @sk8ur2b

    Agreed, man.

I would love to get my Spector fixed.

I have a Performer series bass, but sadly

the piece that holds up the string in my bridge

fell out when I broke an A string and I lost it.

Now my Spector hasn't been touched in months.

It saddens me so much. :(

  • cant u jus get a new bridge?

  • @sk8ur2b

I've heard that the bridge is like cut out to fit in the bass, making a replacement odd and I'm not sure that the Spector Legend is the same as the Performer (which I have). They (Spector) no longer carry replacements for my model. :(

  • from what i saw hes defently not the best. hes awesome, i see that, but not best imo. mudvayne's Ryan Martinie or 1010100101010001 of resist idol (Myspace band haha XD, u can see hes videos in youtube. hes utube username i wrote right XD) are the best metal bassists i know. ryan martinie more known but not sure which one is better.

  • @KamiDisturbed alex webster is better, I'd put money on it

  • No what i checked guitar pro tabs of him, he deafently aint better than most bassists i know. I mean, RyKnow, 7Sloth, Pavel, Jaco, Mark King, Les Claypool, John Myung, they all are better than him defently. i mean alex is fast sure, but its more like playin random as fast as possible, no offense. checked 5 gp files of this band and just liked 1 song a bit, which was fucked with a knife but it seemed pretty easy to play.

  • but not to arque with this, bassist is an bassist, it doesent need to be best. thats why i like ryan the most. he never does solos, he never plays on public than onstage with mudvayen, all showup is in his movement performance, rest is music. but best is that theres not a SINGLE perfect bass tab of him, many aint even near 50% correct. evryone has to use ear tryin to learn his songs and all :D

  • @Tysnatch yeah no doubt, he's a beast

  • @Tysnatch HEY you cant say that without putting dan briggs of between the buried and me in there

  • @Tysnatch and i also agree with that too :)

  • @Tysnatch You forget Arif Mirabdolbaghi!!!

  • Spectors are good for a wide veriety of genres because of their tone. I actually just bought a Spector at the Guitar Center in Nashville, TN LAST WEEK! But like Mistermafia said below...Sam Ash carries them as well. My spector is a little older...it's a Spector Q5 Pro. They carry new models though.

  • chris has a myspace page

  • Personally, I think Chris Tuff nailed it better than anyone else, although they were all good in their own right. Anyone know where he's from, I can't find anything on him.

  • Chris Kuff*

  • Do you guys know how expensive that bass that guy has is after Alex Webster is playing, that thing is freaking expensive, it sounds good but why would someone want to pay so much for a bass.

  • Dude Alex Webster was my first influence on bass! All these bass players are awesome.

I wish there was a place like this in South Carolina.

  • he played the violin as a kid and adopted that into the bass playing

  • I would say that Alex is the best in the Video, since he is the only one that is really playing anything that sounds very different then just slap and groovy style. I wonder why Victor Wooten wasn't there, he is a god as well on bass.

  • It looks like it's all bass players who use spectors my friend.

  • god your so right, I'm sorry I missed that, he is awful. Now go post a video of yourself playing something like 'Frantic Disembowelment' and then get back to me. I didn't say the other guys sucked, I said that alex has the most range, since I'm sure most of the others have never ventured into metal, where as Alex Webster has learned various types of music to enhance his. now while you go and be ignorant in a corner, I'll go enjoy some bela fleck and CC

  • u are plain deaf !!! alex is able to play jazz, funk, bossa nova, classical stuff&more plus he plays fyckin death metal!!! while all these dudes cant pull a string when it comes to technical death metal!! they don't even know the meaning of this term!!

its like if you talk only english while im able to speak arabic, french&english!!!

btw im a death metal fand and player but i thankx to metal i can play and listen to michael manring, chris poland, frank gambale, keith horne, alex holdsworth, ...

  • oops, allan holdsworth

  • yea i listen to death metal and a plethora of other genres, none of us are being blind to musical genius, as im pretty damn sure alex was the most talented bass player there, not that the others were bad. so how about you go shut your mouth up seeing as no one here said the only band they listen to is cannibal corpse.

  • Alex Webster rules !!!!

  • lol what the fuck is quintin berry doing??

  • alex 4 president!!!

    who's with me??

  • thanks dude. i know arif from protest the hero uses spector too. i think im going to save up now.

  • 1:15 to 2:18 fuckin rapes XD

  • alex + webster = best death metal bassist ever

  • go alex webster!!!!

  • are spectors good for funk?

i wanna get a spector rebop 5 string

  • would a spector bass be good for like hardcore music. like it would be a little bright but a pretty bassy sound. i know arif from protest the ting one.hero uses one but i dont know if it would be good. can you please reply? im thinking about get

  • wtf, whats with the guy playing the bass upside down

  • OH SHIT ITS MISTER T

  • hell yea man!

  • queer

  • How can a guitarist say that?

    Ask yourself.

  • hahaha just joshing youth seriously though that was a right load of gash ! As a guitarist myself I think you can get caught up in technicality and this just sounds like bollocks to me.

John Myung and Adam Chancellor are my fave bass players but very accomplished and sound awesome. I was bored sorry about the comment

  • many people play like clone of outhers bass player's , for me sorry but is the shit music , no feeling ,no emotion ,just someone clone!!!

  • 2:26 sounds like some1 farting

  • hoping it would some more of alex playing

  • i know, i was a bit dissapointed with that

but like you said, just cause they didnt film him shreddin, doesnt mean he cant

  • I was hoping for something a little more impressive from Alex Webster on this video.

But that doesn't take away from the fact that he's a top notch bass player. Better than I'll ever be.

  • what a weird playing position of quintin berry

  • think he learned that way cause he was too p0 to buy a strap!

  • I guess I'm an old timer but I didn't like any of this. It is just a bunch of noodling, popping, tapping whatever. Are we losing the good old art of grooving and holding down the bottom end.

  • hmmm ok, maybe u'v overseen the part when Quintin berry and Jimmy Eppard played together. OK he'S got a weird position holding his bass, but he got the groove, and he is not just poppin and slappin (and i think u can even groove with poppin and slappin...). just a thought.

  • I'n not saying you can't groove at all while poppin and slappin but I've never heard a player who can play complex melodic lines and groove and slap all at the same time. Slapping also puts you up front. To really push the rhythm you have to stay underneath. I used to like slappin' when it was new, now I'm just sick of it.

  • The girl bassist sucked from what i've seen in this video...

  • There wasn't enough there to draw any judgment of her playing ability. How could you come to any conclusion? The guy was just showing her the features of the instrument.

  • Cool, I didn't know Alex Webster slapped and popped :P

  • yeah, he plays a lot of different styles and ha said he tries to incorporate things like slapping and popping and all these different techniques into cannibal corpse's music. i think that is one of the reasons he's one of the top death metal bassists in the world, that and he knows not to let the guitars bury him out.

  • Fuck yeah!!!

    But...

Check his work on Cannibal Corpse, or his Own Band, Alex Kick Ass

he´s The best of all the chupaweas of this video.

...If you find a great Bass Player, Check Victor Wooten

  • alex webster and mike flores are the best bassists ever, with stefan fimmers in a close second

  • dude alex webster has really uneven tapping

  • what about jaco? or miller, wooten, manring, ect.

  • lol well a lot of metal bassists are fairly closed minded to who the greatest bassist is. i personally say that the worlds greatest bassist would be impossible to find, cuz theirs probably some guy that lives in the mountains that is better than wooten. but Fimmers and Webster are the best metal bassists. Wooten is probably the best all around bassist

  • what about Jaco?

  • who is fimmers?

  • the bassist for Necrophagist. listen to the song Only Ash Remains and youll here what i mean

  • oooo! im trying to learn that song right now and i just didnt know his name..lol

  • check out the dude fom brain drill. he plays a 7 string. its crazy.

  • i love spectors!

  • Alex Wbster is the BEST

is a BEAST of the Bass!!!

    The best of all

  • Quintin Berry probably wouldn't get ripped on if he sounded good, doing something unique that sounds good is one thing, but doing something unique that provides poor tonality, limited fretboard usage, and exists only as a novelty for the sake of itself is another.

  • what bass is alex webster using ???

  • really nice way to play the bass upsidedown ;-)

  • why does that black dude play like that?

  • He used to play violin, and transferred the playing style over to bass guitar.

Personally I think it's really awesome and unique, I don't see why people rip on him for it. He's an extremely talented individual, with his own styles just like everyone else.

  • I agree, Its really unique and pretty cool actually.

  • Quintin palyed violin as a kid so that position of playing is more natural to him

  • that doesn't make any sense.

  • Why doesn't that make any sense?

  • if he played trumpet as a kid, would it be more naturally to him to blow the bass? different instruments man, there're no 'natural' positions when learning a new instrument.

  • But the violin and the bass guitar are both string instruments.

  • grab a violin and you try playing it like bass. and see if that's natural to you. what i'm trying to say here is that Quintin's awesome but he worked hard to attain that style of playing, it was not given just cos he played violin.

  • Yes, but it makes sense to me that his having been a violinist had a lot to do with his unusual technique.

  • it does to me too. but i don't think that position was more natural for him to play when he began.

  • 1 thing i admire about alex is he doesnt pop slap every other note like most good bassists.

  • The best bassist's are always jazz guys. Even Alex is influenced heavily and plays Jazz himself as he had said so himself even though he plays in a Death Metal band. So, learning Jazz will help benefit you in any music style that you are interested in.

  • wow honestly i didn't know about jo sallins but that guy owns!!!!!

  • hes very talented and all, but I dont know how that would sound in a song. He hardly hits any notes.

  • lol yeah but sounds good and i don't really think he would play like that at all on a song unless he play a solo or something

  • Muy bueno!!

  • not talkin about the dudes playin cause he is bad ass, its just odd to see someone playin a left hand bass right handed.

  • I would so love to take lessons from alex

  • You could be the fastest slapper in the world but if I you don´t move to another chord I would probably bore the people.

  • rex brown plays a spector but ive noticed that these basses have become big all of a sudden

  • if you sit about with nothing to do believe me whether you go outside or stay in the house, youll pick some shit up and get real good with it and alot of the time its a plain hobby like music and shit

  • if you sit about with nothing to do believe me whether you go outside or stay in the house, youll pick some shit up and get real good with it and alot of the time its a plain hobby like music and shit

  • Make no mistake--all those bass players are better than me. I am just sick and tired of every single bass player going "bikkity-bikkity-bikkity-tic-tic-tic-bikkity-bikkity-tic-toc"

    etc...etc....ad nauseum.

    Very annoying.

  • I found each and every one of those clips highly annoying. Does anybody ever just PLAY BASS anymore? I am sick and tired of snap crackle pop bass. James Jamerson never did that crap.

  • you're an oaf, if oyu can't appreciate the sound gtfo, bass is bass its all about play style if there wasn't those snap crackle pop sounds brought to the table by slap[ bass and such it would but just guitars...no bass...so shut your mouth and bask in their glory

  • I sure am glad I play bass better than you construct sentences.

  • Nice (about the come back)

  • Alex Webster is mainly a death metal bassist. He doesn't do slap all that much, but he's really good at it.

Check out his band Cannibal Corpse.

  • For even a better example of his skills, check out an other band he plays in called Blotted Science.

  • there all good, but his intro in amnesia is gorgeous

  • wtf is that black dude playing.. a quantom cyber swans bass?

  • Quintin Berry is holding it pretty strange, but plays amazing :O

Jo Sallins can slap like w0000t :D

Alex Webster iz da best though Yaaaaaaaaaaay!

  • why do blacks always are so talented?

  • omg wtf did i wrote^^

why do have blacks always such a talent*

  • That Jo Sallins guy is a beast!

  • those who are bagging quintin obviously don't know who he is.

He is a real talented bass player, and the reason he holds his bass like that is because he first learnt how to play the violin.

Stop bagging him he's in two bands and making more money than all of you.

  • Still, it looks really stupid. A bass isn't a fucking violin. Why not play a cello like it's an electric guitar

  • I know it may sound stupid, but music really has nothing to do with image, unless you're a talentless overproduced pop artist

  • tbh i think it looks much more badass!!!

  • Quintin's clearly a phenomenal bassist, listen to what he's playing not how he's holding the bass....

  • why does he hold his bass like that lol?

  • Alex Webster inspires me to play bass, and to live in general :P props to Jo and the rest for playing Spectors!

  • Not Only is it gay, but he looks like an utter twat while doing it!

  • Jo Sallins OWNS ALL you have to see him live he will melt your face

  • at 40 seconds or so, there a guy holding his bass strange, what a flop! you don't convince me that's easier way to play a bass....

i don't liKe those spector basses anyway!

  • Well, Lynn Davies is a good singer and actually very hot. But she's indeed so fucking out cast there!

    Anyways, hails to Webster!

  • i doubt you know who the fuck alex webster is.
