hey i finished the install and restarted my system and grub loaded and i selected and booted to windows xp to check if my xp system is still working then i restarted to boot to ubuntu but it got stuck on "GRUB loading" what should i do?
if you install windows 7 then ubuntu by default you will have the GRUB boot loader yes, if you install ubuntu then windows 7 you will have the windows boot loader but you can get the grub boot loader back if you wish, just easier to install windows first.
I'm thinking of setting up a dual boot like this one, but I want to know what I'm doing before I do anything. What is the third partition for with the "swap" file system?
the swap file is used to store data when your memory/RAM is full if you have over 2GB of memory/RAM you dont really need a swap file, windows does the same thing apart from it auto sets it up they call it paging file or virtual memory
Use a program called WINE. It will work for most windows programs, some more than others. Some might require some tweaking but just google "how to run (program) using wine" or whatever.

i dont know for 100% but yes its been the same since 7.04 so i would think so, you can always install ubuntu 9.04 then upgrade to ubuntu 9.10

So at what point do we instal windows 7?
flamenuggz420 2 years ago
i installed windows 7 first before installing ubuntu so i could have the grub boot loader as default
thetechstudent 2 years ago
Can I still have grub boot loader as default if I stick in the ubuntu disc after windows 7 is installed ?

not sure i understand, you can run ubuntu from a usb pen drive and then install it to your computer so you dont need the usb pen drive
thetechstudent 2 years ago
yeah you can install from usb but you need to do some steps in order to get it on a usb, if you want to do this search in google for UNetbootin
