  • Should I make my partition bigger or smaller? Sorry, i'm new to Linux and Partitioning.

  • will it work for Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix?

  • why did u edit windows partition and what did you gain by setting the mount point to /windows?

i'm talking about the thing you did at 2:34.

  • hey i finished the install and restarted my system and grub loaded and i selected and booted to windows xp to check if my xp system is still working then i restarted to boot to ubuntu but it got stuck on "GRUB loading" what should i do?

  • just got my live CD and have open the GParted program but I have these keys next to my windows partition and I can not resize it.

P.s I have windows xp and ubuntu 9.10

if you need a print screen tell me.

  • thank you and nice trick on the virtual machine.would not have thought of that.

  • @laputahayom yeah ive used it before

  • your boyfriend needs u not internet

  • is this pretty much the exact same method to do with Ubuntu 9.10?

  • i dont know for 100% but yes its been the same since 7.04 so i would think so, you can always install ubuntu 9.04 then upgrade to ubuntu 9.10

  • how do you record the startup?

  • i used a virtual machine, im running a machine inside of a machine so i can record the bios and everything in HD

  • Thanks for the tutorial! Tried it tonight and it worked like a charm. Now all I need is a bigger hard drive so I can more space for Ubuntu...

    Anyway, thanks again.

  • So at what point do we instal windows 7?

  • i installed windows 7 first before installing ubuntu so i could have the grub boot loader as default

  • Can I still have grub boot loader as default if I stick in the ubuntu disc after windows 7 is installed ?

  • if you install windows 7 then ubuntu by default you will have the GRUB boot loader yes, if you install ubuntu then windows 7 you will have the windows boot loader but you can get the grub boot loader back if you wish, just easier to install windows first.

  • I'm thinking of setting up a dual boot like this one, but I want to know what I'm doing before I do anything. What is the third partition for with the "swap" file system?

  • the swap file is used to store data when your memory/RAM is full if you have over 2GB of memory/RAM you dont really need a swap file, windows does the same thing apart from it auto sets it up they call it paging file or virtual memory

  • so wait, by doing this, can you run Windows programs on Ubuntu?

if not, how can that be done?

  • Use a program called WINE. It will work for most windows programs, some more than others. Some might require some tweaking but just google "how to run (program) using wine" or whatever.

  • no this just allows you to run ubuntu & windows but like Hambycomb says download a program called WINE i use it for running office within ubuntu

    sudo apt-get install WINE

    type ^ in terminal

  • Nice video.....easy to follow thanks.

Thinking.....I used acronis to make the partitions first.

  • not sure i understand, you can run ubuntu from a usb pen drive and then install it to your computer so you dont need the usb pen drive

  • yeah you can install from usb but you need to do some steps in order to get it on a usb, if you want to do this search in google for UNetbootin
