Democracy or not, what the US wants is a "friendly" government. Look at Pakistan, they were a military dictatorship, and we gave them military aid and have been propping up their government since 2001. Same for Saudi Arabia - which is where the 9/11 hijackers came from. And look at Iran before the current theocracy: the Shah, a US puppet if ever there was one, ran a repressive authoritarian state. Spreading democracy is a justification that liberal states use in order to engage in "just" wars.

I agree with you about Bill O'Reilly to some extent. A lot of times he picks on people that are trying to be reasonable - kinda bullies them, especially for people he sees as "morally reprehensible." However, he does A LOT of interviews with a A LOT of people, most which I couldn't possibly watch. From what I've seen, O'Reilly is usually chill. Only in a minority of the times does he freak out. From my perspective your committing confirmation bias.

I had some friends from Indonesia go to Iran to play concerts (they refuse to get into politics), but when they got there, they were forbidden from playing. Ahmadinijad wanted them to play, yet they were there a whole week and never allowed to. Just a small example of how much power the Pres of Iran has. Politics and religious zealots cause wars. Have you read his (Boltons) book "surrender, its not an option"?. If you have not, I can understand your statement. In the book, he holds that one must do anything, including war, to stop Iranian nuclear program. It is quite clear that he believes Iran is a threat towards Israel, and that a US invision may be the sollution.
I believe he is a neocon, and wants an external enemy, but he will never say that.

To be fair, Iran, historically speaking, does'nt exist, but Persia has been in conflict through history with several nations. The biggest threat to Iran at this time is America, who is seen as the biggest threat to Iran due to its location and oil reserve. The neighboring territory was taken by America by force, and as such Iran feels a need for nuclear weapons to protect themselves. For instance, Iran does not want to trade in Dollars. That upsets America, as happened with Iraq.
