" I know that once I get into a real office we won't be doing a head and neck exam" !!! I am a senior in my dental hygiene program at SIUC and this comment is a disgrace to what we as dental hygienists stand for. You cannot give your patients quality care unless you screen for cancer or TMJ issues, which is part of the head and neck exam. I will continue to perform this throughout my career, and in order to give your patients the CORRECT care, I suggest you do the same.

@Fishe115 I agree with you TOTALLY!! After I am done with school I plan to continue to give the Extraoral exam. The extraoral exam is way to important to skip!!

I don't believe these women for a second. They want this career because of the money, not because they "enjoy" the career of that they're helping people. At least I'll be honest. I'm going to apply to the program because I want to make a decent income and because I've gone above and beyond as far as the pre-requisites are concerned.

I know. But if you have to look at the things those hygienists do, you'll lose your lunch. I agree. Helping people prevent serious problems from happening is a plus. However, the gross factor as well as developing back and neck problems is a downfall to the job. I think that those hygienists EARN their money when dealing with shitty people as well as looking into decay-infested mouths all the time. It's not all bad, but there definitely are some downsides to the profession.

of course every proffession has its own disadvantages .. if you as a hygienist maintain correct positions while caling you will last longer in this proffession..

there are people that like to do what they do and there are hygienists that dont.. as in every proffession. personaly i like it .. and im taking resto hygiene next year.
