Im sorry your brother is no longer with us. I attended the Bugorama's in Sacramento from 1990 to about 1995 This video IS a classic I remember watching this in the early 90's. The high and low deep sound of the throttle is like listening to classical music. This video will remain a staple in high performance VW's for a very long time. Thanks for keeping it alive.
dang thats awesome! i wish mine could do that.. Are you still running the stock chassis or do you have one of those racing chassis with the coilovers and whatnot?
Mike, There isn't a day goes by, that I don't think about Mark, and his Super Sh*t Box... he was SO amused when I called him, and told him I wanted to photograph the car for VW Trends, not a spoof, a real, color, 3 page spread...in fact, I was wearing my "In Memory of Mark Herbert" T shirt today...
Mark Herbert was a VW gearhead out here in the Orange County area-- knew so much about cars and motors you could ask him pretty much anything and expect a detailed response... He was a really good friend, and we lost him on June 9, 2006 in a car crash... he is missed!
That's my brother Mark driving. He's no longer with us. Neither is that car. I have the original video. This is a classic video in the VW community, and it always will be. If you think it sounds like a Honda, your Honda needs some work. And your Honda ain't near as fast. Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)
My friend for 4 years... I saw him the night before he died, we were just hanging out... I love this video, and I think of him every day, up in Heaven, racing Dale Earnhardt (and probably winning)... Rest Well, my good friend. You are still missed here.
The name of Mark Herbert will always be remembered. This guy was my main inspiration for builting my own 1967 old school retro racer. 8 years ago when i began planning what to do with my 67, i saw this video and i was sure that i had to be the long way and it took me 4 years to complete my project. It also took me about 2 years to design on everything on paper and in my mind. Many times i was thinking of quitting but each time i saw this video it gave me the power and courage to continue.
volkswagens have always had strong street credibility this is a perfect example, unlike the rice burner crowd with there double tacs loud obnoxious exhaust systems and crap sound systems.volkswagens will live on forever

Sick video, sick car. Rest in peace good man who I never knew. You clearly knew how to make a killer ride and have a hoot with it.
