  • Im sorry your brother is no longer with us. I attended the Bugorama's in Sacramento from 1990 to about 1995 This video IS a classic I remember watching this in the early 90's. The high and low deep sound of the throttle is like listening to classical music. This video will remain a staple in high performance VW's for a very long time. Thanks for keeping it alive.

  • dang thats awesome! i wish mine could do that.. Are you still running the stock chassis or do you have one of those racing chassis with the coilovers and whatnot?

  • How ironic that it says stop while he burns rubber.

  • Mike, There isn't a day goes by, that I don't think about Mark, and his Super Sh*t Box... he was SO amused when I called him, and told him I wanted to photograph the car for VW Trends, not a spoof, a real, color, 3 page spread...in fact, I was wearing my "In Memory of Mark Herbert" T shirt today...

  • OMG what engine was in this bad ass VW?

  • 0:32 Love it how the ride jumps in second gear! :D

  • Just nice, it´s a great bug and a good driver. The last donut was gorgeous!

  • rest in peace man

  • Sick video, sick car. Rest in peace good man who I never knew. You clearly knew how to make a killer ride and have a hoot with it.

  • Mark Herbert was a VW gearhead out here in the Orange County area-- knew so much about cars and motors you could ask him pretty much anything and expect a detailed response... He was a really good friend, and we lost him on June 9, 2006 in a car crash... he is missed!

  • @conradragzoff Rest in peace Mark!

  • Mark, you will ALWAYS be missed and remembered. ALWAYS.

  • who is mark herbert?

  • God I wish my bug was that nice. You can hear it do a small burn out going into second... damn.

  • is the quaife a 1 way LSD?

  • RIP, my favorite vw video!

  • for more info on this video go to the cal-look Website, click on the 'Ramblings' link, then 'The Infamous "Quaife Test" Video.'

  • That's my brother Mark driving. He's no longer with us. Neither is that car. I have the original video. This is a classic video in the VW community, and it always will be. If you think it sounds like a Honda, your Honda needs some work. And your Honda ain't near as fast. Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)

  • shows how much you know then doesn't it! :oP

  • thats how it sound to me i ein tryna diss.

  • :o) A tuned flat 4 motor is like music! One of my favourite sounds in the world!

  • my dad had a 1982 toyota pickup with a 4 cylinder putting of about 11.5 to 1 compresion the thing was down right nasty

  • My friend for 4 years... I saw him the night before he died, we were just hanging out... I love this video, and I think of him every day, up in Heaven, racing Dale Earnhardt (and probably winning)... Rest Well, my good friend. You are still missed here.

  • mark herbert was given the quaife gearbox and they said mark...try to break....but it was so strong he couldnt

  • Happy Birthday Mark

  • this video clip never gets old... thats vw h.p.!!!

  • where is the unedited one? or I should say the less edited one with out the crappy music and junk.

  • Is this car using the quaife ATB differential?

  • Is this car using the quaife ATB differential?

  • The name of Mark Herbert will always be remembered. This guy was my main inspiration for builting my own 1967 old school retro racer. 8 years ago when i began planning what to do with my 67, i saw this video and i was sure that i had to be the long way and it took me 4 years to complete my project. It also took me about 2 years to design on everything on paper and in my mind. Many times i was thinking of quitting but each time i saw this video it gave me the power and courage to continue.

  • what a comment that shows that you are obviously really in love with volkswagens!

  • Whoah! That was awesome!

  • You are right, that was Mark Herbert

  • loved it!

  • volkswagens have always had strong street credibility this is a perfect example, unlike the rice burner crowd with there double tacs loud obnoxious exhaust systems and crap sound systems.volkswagens will live on forever
