  • You know what? I wish I could read the opening credits without straining or pausing. Good so far.

  • @SuperDarkserpent I am sorry about that, I should have made it better than the 240 View. I do not know what I was thinking. Other than the Opening Credits the video seems perfect normally those credits are much cleaer on a HD,DVD or BluRay. I have this movie on all three. Still can not get enough.

  • so many memories as a child!!

  • so many memroies as a child!!

  • Omg! I use to watch this in elementary school! Wow, its been years!

  • this movie is mugle racist propaganda against the wizard's an witche's world

we've beaten the wizard racist against mugles and we do not won't mugle voldemords....

  • I did not know this movie was that old , I was born 1990.

  • No, below poster. You wouldn't be. You would of been raised a witch, as to hate children, and you would not have an opinion of which you have now.

  • If I was a witch I would NEVER kill children. I would be a good witch!! Teehee

  • i feelso bad for the parents

  • 240p we meet again...

  • This movie bring back memories as kids we used to play like we were the mice.I was always Luke of corset.lol

  • I was always so sad when they stuck the little girl in tha painting..

  • I love this movie! It used to scare me so much when I was little but I loved it anyway. Thank you for the upload!

  • im reading this book in school

  • Toda mi niñez la pase enamorado de La Gran Bruja Angelica Huston...hasta los 13 años...!!! jajaja Me encanta la canción del intro.

  • OH MY GOD THIS MOVIE IT´S SO OLD BUT SO GREAT

  • i have seen many witches and they are disturbing, look for the feet, nose etc

  • ahhh one of my favourites as a kid...still love it...my god they just dont make movies this good anymore

  • the 4 dislikes must be witches! XD

  • Lovely to see this enchanting film again, but slightly puzzled that neither the Comments - nor even the Poster, 'PeterJacksonClassics' (excuse me, what does this film have to do with Peter Jackson?!?) - mention anywhere that it was Directed by the great British film pioneer NICOLAS ROEG ('Performance', 'Walkabout', 'The Man Who Fell To Earth', etc., etc.)

  • @WhollyBooks It was also a Jim Henson film. It was the last one he oversaw personally before he passed. Which explains why it was such a great movie! The Peter Jackson thing was odd to me too.

  • Roald dahl was the best children book author..ever...!!!

  • they showed this movie at day care when i was in 1st grade, and they had to turn it off because all the kids cried (i'm canadian)

  • I already read the book like 4 times it's a great movie!

  • Wasn't Anjelica Huston magnificent in this film? I am in awe of that goddess.

  • Anybody else remember thinking she always said " A bitch .."

  • @MDizzle3282 wait she dosent?

  • i love how mr. bean is in this movie!!!

  • WOW!! Talk about a classic holy shit.. This brings back so many memories but when I was young this movie freaked me out lmao.. vote up if you agree

  • Saw this movie almost all the time when I was little. Haven't seen it in like forever.

  • the witches used 2 freak me out heaps i was so scared that i tried 2 convince my parents to tell the police

  • my name is erica!

  • I think this is what started my obsession with horror and exploitation films, honestly. When I was just three years old, I saw this on YTV, and I adored it, but it came on so late at night, my parents shooed me off to bed. I never forgot this movie, it scared the crap out of me! XD But after not being able to remember the title of the film and all, I tried to use other horror films to substitute this, but nothing will live up to the memory of The Witches (1990 film). It was that great! :D

  • we meet again 240p...

  • this movie used to freak me out so much when I was little.....and made me scared of angelica huston!!!!!! Such a great movie!!!

  • 7:40 Man That would or looks scary, creepy, and freaky!

  • -sorry, I'm being pedantic in this comment-

Boy's Father and Mother were both Norwegian, but the Boy grew up in England. :) So really, none of the family should have an American accent. But it was made by Warner Bros, and is a great film, so I'm not really complaining. XD

  • there are good and evil witches im this world , but I learned that you do not have to use magic to cause bad things. some women are bad witches even without magic

  • we watched this movie at school lol and now im on it

  • @bigtimerushlover1231 what a great school and ur lucky

  • @thisbitchything haha it was reli funny cuz everone kept laughing at the grand high witch and how the kids turned into mice

  • This is such a scary movie when you think about it. I used to hate it because it was different from the book.

  • @magickalcat83 Roald Dahl was the most brilliant man there has ever been.

  • when i was 9 and i think i saw a witch my best friend disappeared long ago.

  • i saw the play today at a trip at school and bald witches ran passed me and also the mouse/girl/boy

  • I got a question, anyone wonder why the witch that techincally killed Erica, wasn't at the meeting? Is it cause she was from Norway?

  • @Moonstone2732 yea.

    she was a norway witch.

  • this movie still gives me the creeps...

  • i will give this movie 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 money

  • 7:34 Kinda creeped me out

  • I havent seen this in so long! Used to freka me out, im excited.

  • I LOVE watching this movie!!! -I havnt seen it in forever!

  • I used to be too scared to watch this, the first time I got all the way through I couldn't sleep for weeks after.

That's when I was little. I'm now 20, I've seen Paranormal Activity without jumping, I saw the Saw films in the cinema, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, didn't even flinch...

But I'm still sitting here shitting myself about watching this movie to the end. :')

  • @dramaticafantastica Haha I'm exactly the same! I'm going through movies that scared me when I was little lol. I'm watching James and the Giant Peach next!

  • 2:11 to skip the credits.

  • @NintendexF8000 you mean the intro

  • Holy thanks for the upload. I haven't seen this in years. (= Thank you. Roald Dahl is an amazing author! Inspired many :)

  • Witcheeessss of ennglaaannddd??!!! Your disgraaaaaccccee!! (Best part of the movie)

  • this movie scared me so much when i was little!!!

  • my teacher read me this book

  • This Video Is So Funny I Watch this in my school

  • OMGEE I remember watching this as a kid and freaking out. THANKS for uploading this!

  • I never thought witches were scary. Just seemed like real old women w/bad tempers.

  • ive read the book but never seen the movie

  • I love this movie it's wired but cute at the same time I wish I was a mouse

  • i just watched this with my mom, havent seen this movie since i was a kid! i remember it used to freak me out so much! angelica huston is soooo good and funny in this, but also pretty gross. i actually think she was kinda hot in this too, now that im 24 haha. aaah to be small again!

the part that always gets me with this movie is the girl who was trapped in the painting and grw old and eventually died. how sad, how tragic. all silliness aside, the witches in this movie are very CRUEL.

  • now i remember why so many of the movies of the 90's i grew up watching were great. they all featured many of the same elements:

-GREAt theme song and/or musical score

-actors who had fun with thier role's and didnt take it all that seriously (which made it more fun)

-young heroes that were likeable and not very annoying

-practical special effects, no crappy CGI

-great story telling for kids but also great enough for adults who are watching too

-scary and creepy, but not TOO scary.

  • I remember seeing this movie when i was younger..i loved it i dont know if it was on disney or something.

  • :OOOO

    :DDDDDD

  • The stuff moving and disappearing in that painting used to freak me out so much when I was little.

  • @PlunderingDesire1 Same here.

  • I am nostalgiaing so haaaaard

  • gv

  • One of my all time favorites!!! Angelica Huston is BRILLIANT!!!

  • One of my all time favorites!!! Angelica Houston is BRILLIANT!!!

  • 90's films.....nothing can be compared to them...neither blue ray nor 3D...they have something that makes them so special...they remind me of my childhood...

  • Haha, it's funny how Erika's Dad speaks to her in English and then she replies in norwegian.

  • Angelica was very intimidating in here as the grand high witch. Like the kind of boss you would never hope to never have at work in real life. I am so glad the good blonde witch prevailed.

  • man that kid was dumb..i would of had a orygy with all those witches .. in that hotel... lol.

  • Justtttt amazing

  • the best movie of witches

  • This film scared me as a child, i'm 20 years old now and i do not watch the Erika's part, where she's in the painting

  • At 9:43, even though Luke's grandmother said that she will give one more very story witch story to Luke, she was rude to give the story since she promised Luke's mom that she won't do anymore stories from 9:10-9:13 where she could have said at 9:43 that she promised his mom that she won't do anymore stories. (I guess she decided to do it because Luke's parents weren't around to stop her as long as Luke kept a secret).

  • At 6:51, how did that cop know that, that milk container belonged to Erica since he picked it up? I wonder if some of the kids that gave the cops clues about her told her that she was carrying that milk container or it had her name on it which is why that cop picked it up. (Her parents couldn't have given clues about her to the cops since her parents didn't know about her being kidnapped until 7:17). Perhaps maybe those two cops should have a police dog with them to sniff out where she is.

  • If you want to know why People have mean mother in laws, it is because of bitchy women like the little boys mother.

  • This has been added to our playlists here, and on facebook, thanks..

  • 5:08 Grandma smokin a blunt!

  • @Vivekmaru45 you reverse the video clip. it worked for harry potter

  • HOW DARE PEOPLE HATE THIS YOU HATE Roald Dahl TOO

  • I was terrified of this book as a kid. I'm 21 years old now. Do your worst, movie!!

  • @PoohFanGirl1990

I rented this movie every week, when I was five. Geez.

  • @beautyquenn101 I was merely posting a comment of what I was thinking as I was just about to watch it, I don't know if the movie will be any good, I haven't finished it (I'm taking too long to watch it lol)

  • Thumbs up

  • That part with Erica always scared me!

I become paranoid, and always doubled checked picture in my house!

    Lol

  • Thumbs up if Disney is going back to its 1950s old ways lol!

  • It still kinda does

  • When I was little this scared me hehe

  • wow!(A)

  • I LOVE anjelica huston's evil laugh at the beginning :)

  • Does anyone know what the song that plays during the opening and closing credits?

  • @robkemp It sounds almost like the christmas song called "The Nutcracker."

  • I remember watching this on Disney Channel when it aired. My mom and I were fine for awhile, but when the witches started taking off their disguises, we both freaked out. 12 years later, I still get the shudders at times.

  • @msmusicangel19 This was in the Disney channel?? They would never show a movie like this now a days

  • @MissMacArthur799 It was. Now Disney is all about bad crap like Hannah Montana and JONAS. *sigh*... I miss the earlier days...

  • @msmusicangel19 Tell me about it! You're absolutely right...I dont even watch the disney channel anymore...Im 23, and I still watch classic disney and cartoons ALL the time, you cant pay me to watch whats on that channel anymore.

  • I had all the books roald wrote as a child I am now 15 and I fount them in the attic, so I took it upon myself to read them to my little brother and sister!!

  • Heard the radio version on BBC just now, I'm so glad to find the movie version too!

  • how amazing would it be if they remade this but 10x scarier, and included the real carcrash from the book. Maybe little kids wouldnt watch it, but pre-teens and adults maybe? it has potential for a really good horror

  • after the trailer im thinking the head witch isnt ugly or scary enough

  • Love this film and love the book. Reliving my childhood

  • This was the first book I read when I was younger after my brother taught me how to read books. It was so fun to see people staring at a little four year old reading this. XD Then the movie came out and I threw a hissy fit to see it. I loved the book more then the movie, but the movie was great as well.

  • Another Classic!!!

  • this movie scared the s*%t out of me as a kid. not afraid to say i'm still scared s*%tless. there's just something about the boys being turned into mice that makes my skin crawl!

  • @dirtydog36 Agreed! I would never in a million years let my kid watch this movie. I think this is the scariest movie I've ever seen. Still gives me the chills...

  • @09parisgirl

I rented this movie every week when I was 5, movie is scary but fun. And I am a total girly girl(who loved horror) and I have always been that way.

  • @theholyrusssian pedos? Farts? Lol

  • I love love love the story!! <3

  • This movie used to creep me out lol

  • these witches are such pedos

  • @leon8chicken ths for the tip

  • omg I didnt know this was a movie! I love the book now I just HAVE to watch this :D

  • @SailorBunnyTiger I didn't know, too.

  • omg that story about erica would give me such nightmares!!

  • i had to read the book for school, and this is just as great

  • @BeatlesBoy717 I agree there. I read the book long before the movie and I loved it, some people seem to enjoy the book more than the movie though. It all goes by different people's opinions.

  • @BeatlesBoy717 My teacher read this book to my class.

  • @BeatlesBoy717 im only on the third chapter in school but its kinda annoying when the chapter ends and i also want to spoil it kus i luv this freaking book

  • This was my favorite movie when I was younger

  • I always loved this movie, because it mentioned Norway :) I'm Norwegian. The little girl lives in the historical centre of Bergen, which is funny, because it used to be the inhabited only by Germans. But I love this movie =)

  • @feiminwen93 I hope your country is doing better after your recent tragedy I wish you peace. Sympathy and thoughts from Greece

  • @EffLabels Thank you :) It means a lot

  • @feiminwen93 Go Norge!

  • @petracute Ja! =)

  • It seems they've changed certain facts from the book. In the book, the boy is orphaned right at the start, and the little girl's name was Solveg, not Erica

  • One of the best adaptations ever.

  • The Grand High Witch makes Lord Voldemort look like Mary Poppins.

  • @tljsm1 No in the Movie the Witch cast on spell on her to lock her in her father's painting for all time. The Book might have been different but as you can see that is what happens in the movie.

  • :D the witches scared me but i enjoyed this film

  • ABSOLUTLY A FANTASTIC MOVIE. I LOVED IT AS A KID, AND NOW I'M ENJOYING THE SAME MOVIE WITH MY 5YR OLD DAUGHTER...LIFES GREAT! THANX FOR UPLOADING THIS MOVIE.
