  • GT, I thought the lowest RTS value was 256 bytes?

  • Fragmentation limit is 256 bytes, but RTS doesn't have a limit.

  • You creating the confusion, by purpose I guess, between hidden node and hidden AP. You select a very specific case where you have 2 APs sending to 2 clients, but real life is different:

    - it's bi-directional traffic, guess what STAs still have omni antennas

    - You have more than 2 APs

    - with dynamic "directional" antenna you go farther and the beam changes depending on client position so it makes co-channel interference dynamic / unpredictable

  • It isn't a very specific case; in fact, any network with multiple AP's in 2.4 GHz (only three channels) will experience the hidden AP problem. In real life, yes there is bi-directional traffic and that is an issue that we can't readily fix. However, in most networks, traffic from the AP represents 80+% of all traffic, then solving the hidden AP problem is something worth noting. My no means do I think this solve all problems, but I've seen RTS/CTS on the AP solve problems in the real world. -GT

  • I should have tacked this on to the end of my previous comment (but I was too impatient): To understand my question about proprietary beam forming vs. 802.11n beam forming one only needs to search Google for "airgo video54 mimo" to see that sometimes very technical terms can be used very imprecisely.

  • I've been in this industry long enough to know that it's important to ask "What *is* this magical thing that you speak of - Beam Forming? Is it different than 802.11n beam forming?

  • "Uh, Gunshots? Perfect! That's okay.

Northern Oregon - That's perfectly normal."

You probably can't appreciate how hilarious that statement is to those of us living in urban areas. (ROTFL!)
