OF COURSE the rubber ducks are an integral part of the LHC experiements. ;-)
They will study wether the enjoyment to let the ducks swim in a beam of particles is the same as letting them float among the bubbles in your bathtub.
Apart from the ginormous amount of data and potential of ground breaking discoveries it is the way in which people from many different countries come together to make this happen. Peace!
Great video again, if you guys do request please do one about how scientist are gonna search and make (statistical) sense out of the overwhelming amount of data.

i think these arsehole are shameful, kids dieing for want of food 2/3 of the world liveing on the bread line yet they pump billions, into this project shame on them
these experiments aim to unlock fusion energy as well as uncover other sciences.. these experiments have the potential to dramatically lower hunger and poverty... maybe even eliminate it
Most starvation is due to internal wars, success at the LHC will enable us to make bigger bombs so that we can kill those people who are using starvation as a weapon.
I wish someone had shown me all the possibilites for a career when I was young. Knowing what I know now, I would have stuck out school... applied myself and gone to work at CERN. All those discoveries! Argh... to do life over eh?
When will the first experiment take place?? Anyone know?

Those things could be used in a Newton's Cradle experiment.

Come on, start the experiment, I cant wait any more! And please inform us what is happening regularly, dont hide from us the news!

My guess is....No. Bathtub ducks are more fun.

At first I thought the rubber ducks were just toys, it turns out that they are an integral part of the collider.

I think even that rubber duck knows more about physics than we do.

yeah no, swing and a miss there buddy.
This is not a study into nuclear physics, this is an experiment designed to flesh out some of the gaps in the standard model.
They are just trying to prove the higgs mechanism (theorized to be responsible for inertia, and giving particles mass) exists.
Trying to weaponize such a thing is a fools errand.
There's no fear-mongering to be had here. This is the essence of unilateral, peaceful, scientific pursuit here.

I hate it when lamers who didn't go to physics classes assign religious horrors to scientific projects. You can't know this!

Italians!!! At least we've many valid researchers which works for the sake of science...(even if out from italy)

Hey, the Italians used to make good disco music back in the '80s

every time there is a video available
my heart skips a beat thinking
this is it
i try not to get too disappointed when the purpose of the video isn't to deliver the good news
but to rejoice instead that we're a step closer
plus the yellow ducks helped me get over the mounting tension and the intensity of what i saw and heard this time around
ever so impatiently waiting for mid-november now
(hey fill us in on where you got that info Celeon999A as my sources are clearly failing me ;) )
teobesta 2 years ago 4
Planned start of operations is Mid-November 2009.
