I got both of my dumbo rats at a pet shop and they don't bit. My daugther play with them like if they were toys. They love it. I just wish they wouldn't poop so much.
Shelby17, my suggestion for covering the wire floor and ramp is to use needlepoint plastic you can buy at a craft store. It's cheap and much more comfortable on your ratties feet, plus you reduce the risk of one of the rats getting a foot or limb caught in the slats. I use it all of the time and I cut the pieces to fit and attach with plastic zip ties (buy them at Home Depot--small size). Cute ratties!:)
nice rats and verry cute, but as AutomaticShishkabob said: these cages aren't good for those little foods. maybe u can put in some wood plates ^^ my rats love them. ^^
It is best to get rats from a breeder rather than a pet shop chain, however,it's all in how well the rat is socialized as far as "biting" is concerned. All but a few of my 8 rats came from Pet Smart. It is rare that they bite and usually it is a trust issue or sometimes if you have food on your hands, they may mistaken you as food.
I'm sorry, but really. Comparing wild rats to pet rats is like comparing tigers to kittens. Sure, they're food in the wild, but they're just as sweet as dogs domestic.
Totally sucks that I'm allergic to 'em. The best college years of my life were spent with my dear rat friend Katie. BTW, those kinds of cages give 'em bumble foot. Look it up.
So cute. I have a rat named Juliete also, thought she might be unique.

Cute rattie girls!
You can cover the wire bottoms with cut-to-fit pieces of fleece (great during the Fall / Winter), or embroidery backing.
As far as rats biting... that's rare, and it's typically if they have trust issues / feel threatened, and have been mistreated.

Sillies, no evidence of wire cages causing bumblefoot and tamed rats won't bite just like dogs.

Thats unless you own it. If you own a dog, its completely loyal to you.

I haven't been bitten yet by one of mine, but then again I don't buy them from places like PetSmart or Petco.
