  • Jazz Odyessy

  • I was a member of Spinal Tap till i took an arrow to the knee.

  • Niiiiiiice. Though it could do with a touch of good old Clem on Bass...

  • Every jazz song sounds like this to me. Are they all supposed to be funny?

  • @babamuna66

    It's music based on fear.

  • how do they sing this with a straight face ?? This is awesome =)

  • I love Spinal Tap and I love Jazz. LOVE. THIS.

  • harry shearer is one of earth's coolest dudes...

  • Harry is not only the voice of Mr. Burns, he also does Smithers, Principal Skinner, Ned Flanders, Reverend Lovejoy and Dr. Hibbert, among others.

  • Mr. Burns on bass!

  • a perfect Blues-Jazz take on Spinal Tap.

  • Yes it's Harry/Derek...& that's his beautiful & talented wife, Judith....I should know, I was the Shrimpton Bros......:-)

  • @twilson1188 No, its Michael Mckean's wife! See what I wrote bellow (to: MatthewPA1972).

  • harry taps judith.

  • Who's the female?

  • @MatthewPA1972 Judith Owens is the wife of Michael Mckean (not Harry S.) Look up the song "The Good Book" They preform it on their "Unplugged & Unwigged" DVD. At the begining of the song, he introduces her as

a guest singer & his wife!

  • @etmup80

Actually, Annette O'Toole is Michael Mckean's wife, and it is her who sings "The Good Book". Judith Owen IS Harry Shearers wife, and she sings "A Penny for your Thoughts" on the unwigged DVD.

  • 'Cleo Laine' all over again

  • "On the bass ... Derek Smalls .. He wrote this!"

I'm only here for the puppet show.

  • now the thing that blows my minde is just how taented they all turely are

  • ruined it.

  • I think the guy playing bass is Harry Shearer

  • @DouginEastLake Nah its not him, I saw his caricature on the simpsons and this dude looks nothing like that, good music though, will definately feature next christmas.

  • She has a nice voice. I love women whom sing that way. Check out Renee Olstead, She is voluptuous, redheaded and sexy!

  • @kinkajoes Not only is he the voice of Mr. Burns, but, um, he is also the guy who co-wrote this song, Mr. Harry Shearer aka Derek Smalls!

  • isn't that dude the voice of mr burns in the simpsons:p

  • @kinkajoes yep

  • Spinal Tap is real or, I hallucinated an entire concert in 1984.

  • @MadThespian they became "real" after the movie. I don't think they had any idea how successfull the film was going to be, or the demand for the music. it is still a comedy act, concert or not.

  • I would change chord at 0:41

  • "Christmas With The Devil", a jazz rendition ! ! !

(I sold my soul to the Tap, back in '75).

  • Harry has some very real chops! Wonderful vocal too.

  • if you notice, she is playing with harry shearer, who is a member os spinal tap, sort of, his character is derek smalls, so it is spinal tap.

  • F-ing Brilliant!

  • Haha, genius!

  • Irony of Irony of Irony... Love It..

  • extremely disappointed i was expecting SPINAL TAP you guys really just ruined my whole day

  • @passyourballsplease

Crikey! You need to get out more if this ruined your day. Just use the back button...

  • We're not playing jazz in front of a festival audience!

  • And now For Something Completely Different!

    HO! HO! HO!

    Zed Likes!

  • Twisted.

  • Sweet!

  • Awesome!

  • Ohoh: Tap goes jazz. Cruel. Lol

  • May I say something? Angels in chains started me giggling and then I coud not stop.

  • love it.

  • This is Harry's wife.

  • beautiful and funny!

  • who was the pianista

  • Spinal Tap is real on so many levels, man!

  • For those of you who don't think Spinal Tap is real: Smell the Glove!

  • well...she should be made to smell it. just not over and over again.

  • or swim in the Shark Sandwich

  • XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • Excellent. Just...excellent

  • Oh Hell yes! Brilliance.

  • I love Harry!! Hre is a treasure chest of talent!!

  • Oh I like this...thanks for posting!

  • Harry Shearer is one talented mofo.

  • very mellow version of a yule tide classic !

  • Brilliant

  • i got to this vid when i was searching for spinal tap songs. fuckin great

  • This is just fuckin awesome!

  • So where's the song about Jesus celebrating Satan's birthday?

  • Excellent

  • Spinal Tap Rocks! Even though they are fake.

And this version is definitely worth listening to.

  • Spinal Tap are not Fake, they are what they are, and that is what ever you want them to be.

  • spinal taps not fake foo!

  • Absolutely brilliant! Derek Smalls (aka Harry Shearer) playing bass is an added bonus...plus there's no cocoon onstage for him to get caught in!

  • I just read that Judith Owen is married to Harry Shearer...

  • to be fair its harry shearer (aka derek smallsaka ned flanders aka mr burns aka principal skinner aka mr smithers aka reverend lovejoy ect ect.....

  • wow i think that this song was pretty, i liked the song, derek is awesome!

  • I'm sure all other religions have been a lot more dangerous in times of past.

  • Clearly the fact that this is a fictional band and a commentary on Rock excess is lost on you, but that's one dimensional thinking for you, also to be found in fervantly religous folk..

  • Nice classic cover :]

  • This TAP head loves this rendition! Like Dylan, Neil Young, or Bruce (Springsteen), SPINAL TAP has written songs of such timelessness that they can be translated to different styles of music, played in different tempos!

  • DErek looks so sad:(

  • Major Babe!

  • Harry Shearer was part of spinal tap and he's playing the bass why don't you read the description before posting

  • errrr....

    Spinal Tap isn't real.

  • Technically, Spinal Tap is real because Harry, as well as Chris Guest and Michael Mckean, even though they're acting as Spinal Tap, they're still writing and performing all the music themselves... so Spinal Tap is real, in that way.

  • well there are quite a few bands that dress up or play characters on stage and no one doubts that they are real

  • @cushlinkes

Exactly. There's no difference between Spinal Tap and Alice Cooper.

  • @cushlinkes They aren't a serious band though.

  • @MetalManiac014

What is your definition of a serious band? Just because they're a comedy group doesn't mean they aren't serious. They obviously spent a lot of time developing the characters and writing the music... all to make us laugh. In that sense, I'd say they're pretty serious.

  • @cushlinkes These guys are just taking the piss really. They aren't say serious about they're music like say Led Zeppelin or even Poison. Just look at Steel Panther. They're a parody band that makes great music but they aren't a for real making a good name for themselves band.

  • @MetalManiac014 they are only serious enough in that they want to entertain with what they do. just because it's comedy, doesnt mean they are going to do a half-assed job of it.

  • @cushlinkes the whole Spinal Tap Song Catalogue is pure genius!

  • @cushlinkes yes, like GWAR

  • Wow, Derek Smalls is really looking good back there on the upright base. I wonder why he shaved off the trademark beard.

  • It's becaues Christmas with the Devil is a Spinal Tap song.

  • that cover sucks,is much better the Soundgarden cover for Big Bottom

  • absolutely brilliant version of the song, and man Harry Shearer plays a really mean bass

  • Thats a catchy little tune. The performers have good musicality.

  • This is somewhat for "heyfags" I recommend that you learn English before calling anyone a retard. I enjoyed the song and believe her to be a beautiful and talented woman

  • If thy ear offendeth pluck it off.

  • If you resemble jesus, you should be forgiving.

    Hypocrite.Philistine.

    Sloth.

    Carfucker.

  • "carfucker"? haaahaha! that's awesome... kudos!

  • Are you that ignorant that you can't tell the difference between sarcasm and reality?

    Jesus Fuckeen Christ!

    :P

I'm sure even GOD knows the difference, Sheeesh!

  • This was a reply to "iResembleJesus" comment

  • I really dislike you after reading that, IResembleJesus.

  • What a GASSSSSSsssss.....

  • jeez it just shows how much better actual actors are then these wannabe stars on youtube like lisanova

  • How much more black can you get? none more black.

  • Harry is making the Derek face without the facial hair! lol

  • Harry Shearer, not Christopher Guest

    dum-dum!

  • Smell the glove

  • Harry Shearer is playing the bass.

  • I had heard Judith Owen is Ireland's loudest piano player, so the synchronicity between the groups is strong. But I'm left wondering what Tap thinks of this obvious theft of its copyright on the song? Probably not too upset. As Nigel once said, "I don't think we have too much 'intellectual' in our intellectual property, really."

  • Yawn....

  • Wow! Just did a Wikipedia search on Judith Owen. Apparently she's married to Harry Shearer.

Too bad. I now have a crush on her, and there's no way I can compete with Derek Smalls AND Montgomery Burns combined in one man.

  • Not true. Judith Owen was actually married to Derek Smalls from 1972 to 1977. They met in 1972 at the reunion of the Huxley Fab Five show at the Sheffield retro-modern jazz reinvention festival in Sheffield, UK. They married 2 days later. However, Harry Shearer, who was a friend of Smalls, later fell in love with Dereks wife. He ended up stealing her away in a Harrison / Clapton sort of thing. Very sad love story. It was the inspiration for Tap's single, "Hard as a Stone."

  • Shearer stole her from Smalls? That SNAKE! No wonder he's able to bring such a convincingly evil tone to Mr. Burns' voice.

  • It was very ugly and made all the tabloids at the time. I know both Rolling Stone and Metal Men's Women did feature stories on the break-up and her move to Shearer. It is really just a microcosm in to the hell that is the life of a big-time rock star. I pity them, really.

  • Spare your pity ugadawgs, reality is for those who can't handle the rock world, save your pity for them. The future will soon be a thing of the past.

    Tap life 4 ever!

  • Spinal Tap =D

  • thx , Finally found what i've been looking for on all those Christmas crap mess ! AsGoodAsItGetsVidas

  • Way cool. And Derek Smalls rocks.

  • SüpeRRRRRRRRRRR.......

  • Harry's the maaaaan! Even nasty at jazz on the upright

  • Not sure what's up the hating here... this is quite cool, and a surprise for me (that Harry has the chops he has).

  • Boring!!!!!!!!!!

  • 'no snow below'

*some one from the crowd cackles like a psycho* <3 best part haha

  • He has got a cucumber in his pants

  • Oh no, that bass DEFINITELY hits eleven.

  • very nice

  • he really is a good bass player

  • '...base player...'

If you are not embarrassed you should be.

  • have you ever seen the movie "This is Spinal Tap" ?

  • Yes, once, a long time ago. It sounds like I completely didn't get a clever allusion there. I apologise to ravenphile. I am the one who is embarrassed

  • yeah the movie was a joke.

  • I had several Chrismas' with the devil. Then I got divorced!

  • I saw Spinal Tap perform this song on Saturday Night Live back in the '80s, with a bunch of my Catholic high school classmates who didn't realize it was a joke and were scandalized. That was the merriest Christmas ever!

  • it's a bright scary world outside the religious school system, eh?

  • Let's just say these kids weren't in the "gifted" program.

  • they were in the OTHER "gifted" progam? :)

interesting coincidence; the 'special ed' teacher at my highschool looked remarkably similar to judith owens. and her daughter was hot. like, on fire. i'm sayin she was FIT. she also was a special ed teacher.

  • This song was not released until the early '90's

  • You are wrong. It was written in 1982 when Tap was opening for Judas Priest on Christmas Eve. Derek Smalls was actually climbing in a christmas tree in a nearby store after have a bit too much bubbly. He fell from the tree and knocked his head pretty hard and was in the hospital for a while. The band ended up getting a homeless guy to come and act as a body double, and no one really knew the difference.

  • this song was not released until the early 90's

  • Spinal Tap did this on SNL in 1984.

  • derrick smalls! rock n roll

  • This Christmas song broke from the holy rule. A funny sharing .How wonderful!

  • Shearer shaking the bass at the end was cute. Funny stuff!

  • The bass player is a voice on the Simpsons (actually many voices) and a real member of Spinal Tap.

  • Wonderfully heartwarming!

  • Amazing!

  • Cooooooollll...

  • Damn this is one of my all-time favorite Christmas Songs. Thanks for posting!
