I did not say that theology answered the question, I said that some questions are suitable for theological consideration. By theology, donot necesarily mean "god" either, just the unknowable.

IMHO: Lamarck was wrong about the heritability of physical traits, however we may see cultural traits inherited vertically, but also horizontally or obliquely, which does not fit with Lamarck, however neither of these processes (cultural or genetic evolution) is creative. the creative force in genetic evolution is only random mutation, but the creative force in cultural evolution might be accidental mutation like changes, of carefully considered.
