  • love him as an actor he is great

  • When you say Smeeeeee Heeeeeee :D

  • You reminded me of Kryten so much at 2:41 hahaha :)

  • I aggre. On a lot of sites that i go on most of them look...let's say a bit messed up. Because of the shit Explorer 8. So most of the time i use Mozilla Fox. Best for web surfing.

    Use that Rob!

  • The BBC iPlayer is far, far, far better now. But Macs, no thanks. Off-the-shelf-show-off machines.

  • im agree with you robert, im a firefox / chrome user and no problems...

i just use virgin media TV for iplayer since i also dont trust the iplayer program for my machine.

  • firefox with noscript = win

  • Well said, Robert. It's very annoying as it is, that the shows are temporarily available. Shall stick to the convenience of 4oD. Big fan by the way. Kudos on 'carpool', love it! As do MANY others. :-)

  • 0:55-1:20 - 'Nuff said.

  • so true ie is shite!!!!

  • Internet Explorer has gotten a lot better than it used to be, though it's still shite when compared to just about every other browser on the market. Firefox is still king for me, though Chrome is catching up pretty quick

  • i use internet explorer and on windows vista and with broadband and its works fine i have no problems

  • god he is so trying to be a knob fucker!

  • mad props 2:40 the correct pronunciation of "copyright issues"

  • I think this video is a good example of why he was chosen to play Kryten - there is much face-moulding and scrunching, just as seen in the series. The lawyer face looks good for spicing up parties.

  • Pause at 1:37 for instant fun. And 1:00-1:07 is good as well.

    Am I wasting space here?

  • I never use Internet Explorer now. Too slow, and I generally don't like things Microsoft do, so I tweak Windows to a highly efficient and personalised level. Tip for you folks:

Google Chrome starts up (for me) twice as fast as the latest Firefox, which gets slower over time thanks to Windows d#@*ing around.

  • @EddieTheFishReturns Completely agree. I use Firefox and it's SO much better than Explorer - Unfortunately, my family still use explorer, so when I use their desktop I am forced to endure the slowest and most-crashy browser around.

  • 1:00

    Enough said.

  • Very well said Robert. DRM never worked.

  • I'm still looking for any possible way to get around this DRM. So far all I can do is download to FLV with a stream catcher, or use the iplayer downloader to get an ipod file. Neither can be converted to DVD to view on a real TV. So I guess I'm still stuck to recording using my own DVD/VCR. And I thought it was 2009!

  • Go away and pass your GCSE's. Or fail them, I don't care.

  • Oh get you, Mr clever "I know what all acronyms stand for and I never make a fucking mistake ever and if I catch someone else making the most minor of slip ups I stick a hostile comment beneath them because it makes me feel ...what?" Better, more intelligent, makes you feel at last you've got one up on someone. Top marks for a truly tragic comment

  • @bobbyllew You sir, are a legend.

  • @Daftie123 arsehole, mr fucking politically correct

  • Firefox All The Way Robert

  • Agreed, although now it does work on Mac (and Linux) I hated it when it doesn't. I also hate the DRM but I just use the po-ru iplayer downloader to get around that.

  • The lawyer was really funny.

  • I agree with IE being a heap of shit.

    I prefer FF most.

  • i could go on for hours about DRM, i always pay for legit coppies of my movies and music when i can, but sometimes they don't even bother to make it available except for a fee youtube download, for example

and if i download it then it becomes available, i will always relace my tape recording for the real mc coy

    sigh, i dunno

  • it work's on my lap top

  • Some very good points. And whilst many of these issues are now dealt with, the iPlayer still manages to find new and interesting ways to screw up almost every day. Also some nice observations about the BBC's techie bods, they are pretty lame aren't they? Probably spending too much time on Twitter, but then I suppose Robby's not going to criticise that :)

  • You might want to add some annotations to this video to state that most of the issues you raised here have been dealt with now. Just a suggestion.

  • I know its an old video but but good point made :)

  • it does work on vista

  • Chrome, that's a good browser. Moot point but there we go. Great for handling pop-ups downloads etc. Moot again. Zippin' it :-#

  • 1:05 that actually took me by surprise

Kryten from Red Dwarf said shit...I think I need to sit down...

  • fraps is a program that will capture most things video. Also replay media catcher and firefox with the plugin.

  • what is the program you talked about that takes still images or videos of whatever is on your screen. did you say jene project??

  • while i watched this video i jacked off as tears streamed down my face

  • Some great points! Of course, in the last year more and more people have now become able to watch the iPlayer via digital TV, which certainly helps.

I have to wonder though, if this rant against the BBC is why Red Dwarf is now being made by Dave... ;-)

  • WAH WHAH WAH, I don't like Internet Explorer WAH WAH WAH!!

Hey numb nuts do what I and everyone else did, while you have youtube and everything running in firefox or whatever, just open IE and run iPlayer on that...

The point is, lots of people who are tech savy know how great Firefox and a alternatives are but MOST PEOPLE use IE7 on Windows XP.

BBC just wanted to get iPlayer out to as many people as quickly as possible. Now Firefox and more and more systems are being supported all the time.

  • Hey not very observant critic, you may notice this vid was posted more than a year ago, and it was true then. IE sucks that is common knowledge, plus, IE doesn't run on a Mac thank heavens, and I use a Mac not Windows XP. Other than that, thanks for watching

  • Well I did actually phrase my advice in the past tense but you have to realise over a year ago and even today the most popular browser is still Internet Explorer making about 70-80% of users.

90% of people use Windows and have access to IE so is it any surprise at all that the BBC would role it out on IE first?

I mean if Mac only has 9% market share is it really that heinous it got streaming only 6 months later?

    Macs are ridiculously overpriced anyway.

  • IE does suck Bobby, you are correct. Firefox is better.

  • "even today the most popular browser is still Internet Explorer making about 70-80% of users."

With IE being pre-installed on every windows computer sold why do those figures seem unfair...

it's practically the default. Trust me if we had to go and download IE browser from the internet it would be a different story.....

Firefox has fully earned its share.

  • I'm not saying and never even implied that IE was in any way superior.

The point is it's both most PREVALENT (available to the most) and most POPULAR (used by most people) browser. Not the "best" by far.

BBC have to make itself available to the widest number of people as quickly as possible, not to just the minority who read tech blogs and have the initiative to install a new browser like firefox.

Please learn the dictionary definition of popular (it doesn't mean the same as "the best").

  • Robert... why even waste time replying to people like this, some moron who can't even see this video was posted on the 3rd of august 2007..

  • fixed now

  • Anyway Iplayer. As has already been stated this is an old video. What makes me laugh about IPlayer is that the Beeb have thrown oodles of money at it to do their gelocation nonsense. I can watch it from Houston Texas doing virtually nothing. The gelocation thingmy just doesn't work. Besides, other than Top Gear, QI and University Challenge what else is there to watch on it? Hmmm okay Doctor Who I suppose on a rainy day... ;-) But you get my point... Their viewers are mostly ex-pats. :-D

  • I didn't see this when originally posted. While the iPlayer itself has changed, all your statements about Internet Explorer and DRM remain true. ;) Netflix currently has similar problems as the early iPlayer days, except for the set-top-box options.

  • Im watching on Linux, with Mozilla Firefox.

  • Im sorry:D

  • This was posted in August of 2007, see, it says to the top of the video. Blimey, work it out. It works on Vista, b]na na na na. When I put it up over a year ago everything I said was true. Don't get so upset about it. Use Vista, it;s all lovely. And calling someone an ass wipe isn't very nice

  • u tell him bobby!

  • Could it not be argued that scrubbing Lister's gussets was roughly in the same area to ass-wiping? Nah, not fair to insult you really. Damn, whatever happened to Red Dwarf, I miss that show too much, and watched every episode too many times.

  • quite right sir! My only gripe with iplayer is that it's not available overseas (yet! The BBC reckon they're working on an international version...we'll see...)

    all the best!

  • ass wipe (low blow, but... it was there.. didn't you see it) ;)

  • hi m8 iplayer works fine on google chrome i have been useing it for ages

    but good vid

  • Durr.. only just seen that this was posted AGES ago. Me bad.

  • I have Vista and Firefox and it works fine for me Rob, i use the iplayer alot. I couldn't agree more about Internet Explorer, bloody thing has always caused me no end of headaches..

  • hey bob. the iplayer does work on firefox, iv been watching it on there for a while.

    love the show :)

  • i like you better on red dwarf

  • Yes we all prefered it when he looked like a novelty condom. I liked him on that 'sex' show on Channel 4 what was that called again?

  • Give it a break Kryten. :-)

  • nice one bobby

  • Oooh get you. For one thing, this video is over a year old and now iPlayer works fine on a Mac, that is what this rant was about. For another I could use a computer very efficiently many years before you were born. Check the date of the video and get over it. And IE is rubbish, that is a well accepted fact by anyone who has above average knowledge of computers and software.

  • Well done, Rob.

The other problems with these things are the high CPU usage and they totally kill your broadband..

Cheers for the Jing Project. Never heard of that.

  • it seems to work on firefox now but teh one for channle 4 doesn't it need internet explorer

  • your really brilliant! haha you make me laugh

  • <<<<< nice picture

  • although im old enough to have a credit card or a pay pal acount i dont so if it costs money even 1p i would just get it for free somewhere else and thats why most people do it especialy younger people, pluss the fear of your account detailes getting copied and your identity stolen, i would rather have a virus that i would have to get rid of than massive debt and bad credit rating, so money has to be made with adverts. but like you rob i dont realy know how to make money off tv on the internet

  • It works on mac now. Im not sure if they ment it to or weather it was just a work experience kid mistake.

  • oh dear

  • is it him off scrapheap challenge

  • Your Lawyer face is fuckin scary!

  • haha ... i get free movies .. is that bad .... why cant stuff be free .. make it free people .. screw your greed and wealth .. communism preveils !!!! .. um .. im kidding .. communism isnt good ?? ... goo on paper i geuss .. but yeah .. free cars free food free water .. WATER SHOULD BE FUCKING FREE!!!!!! .. Robert sir ... you make me want to steal stuff ... no no .. its not you its me .. it all belongs to me in someway .. so i shouldnt pay ... um .. free stuff .. come on people ..

  • hopefully the iplayer wont be used by "auntie Beeb" to dominate the bandwidth. It already plays much more smoothly than youtube...maybe its a plan to try to make the bbc centre of attention when, in reality, it cant compete with the publics creativity

  • it works on my mac just fine running in safari

  • To be fair NOTHING works on Vista...

  • And cheers for mentioning Jing-Project, I've been trying to recall the name for months. (Is it me or have I commented on every video you've done Today?)

  • I-Player is also to support, Wii and PS3, Not X-box obviously. but here in aust. we can download shows from ABC1 in WMA or MP4 it's crazy good.

  • Ok - they support firefox now!

  • 2:34 and 2:46 lol fucking hilarious i like the whole impression he does it cracks me up everytime "we can't let you copy it because of copyright issues" ROFLMAO

  • There's got to be a way to get it to run on Firefox.

  • fuck the BBC man, their the shittest at broadcasting football matches, ITV news looks way better than BBC and their logo is booooorrrrring. And they collect the TV licence and waste it on rubbish such as the iplayer.

And anyway hve u ever tried Internet Explorer 7? If its shit then IE itself is fucked up.

  • Please stop pulling those faces. It scares me.

  • Hi Robert,

    Nice video.

About a year ago, I was 'introduced' to Red Dwarf, and ever since then, I have been a big fan of you [Kryten]. Your performance was absolutly fantastic. It's too bad RD didn't go into Season 9 and on.

Keep the reviews coming, and yes, I do agree with SpiroEx. It is nice to see someone talking sense.

    Regards,

    LB

  • Nice to see someone 'in the industry' talking sense.

Note to swearingmonster. The main problem with IE is it's a huge security risk especially on the PC where it is a major part of the Kernel - that's the core of the Windows operating system. If I use Firefox and someone compromises its security there's a limit to what they can do. If I use IE and it's compromised my entire computer is potentially compromised.

  • wots wrong with internet explorer!?

  • ie is still the most widly used internet browser. They're just pandering to the masses and drm is simply a tool for making the guys with ties and suits shut up about people copying.

However you are right. a simple website that allows people to watch anything at any time would be perfect, nobody would copy because it's simply easier to do it legaly. People are lazy.

  • Just to let people know iPlayer is working on Vista and wait for it

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    Macs

  • Russian subtitles?

You sound like you speak from experience Mr Llewellyn!

  • I thought it was meant to be short, heh. =P Anyways, IE is balls, way behind its time, full of flaws, security holes and in the end just annoying to use. Windows is also total arse, although XP is better than Vista, less pretty maybe, but still better. And if you want to go back even more, win98 is great, but of course Microsoft stopped supporting it, so its no good for new things. =\

  • I know that IE sucks, but now that I know about the BBC Iplayer, I am a happy boy. Thanks for this rant Bobby L.

  • HAHA

    Idiot.

  • DRM at the BBC, Why? All programs are broadcast across the country to untold amounts of VCRs, TiVOs & DVD Recorders. Besides all households in the UK are forced by law to pay for the BBC content, Why shouldn't we have a copy if we want to. But tbh why would anyone want an illicit copy of Buy or not to Buy, ROugue Traders or Strictly Come Dancing. COMPLETE BULLSHIT PROGRAMMING!!!

  • Haha. You're so right. & I've never had Russian subtitles on my downloads, but a fair few Spanish ones. And one in 'Polski'.

  • You should do these as Kryten.

  • good old kryten

  • LMFAO at "complete shitttttt!"

  • Yeah. IE is so fragile!

I'm using Firefox at the moment.

Somehow, something designed for Linux (a reliable Op-system) works very well on Windows also.

Most things haven't been adapted for Vista and it's annoying. Vista is beautiful, but still has some security flaws

afterall it's just a BETA so far.

Very interesting rant there bobby. Keep it up.

    xXxEddiexXx

  • Great points Rob. The iPlayer and 4od also install 'Kontiki' software which is impossible to remove by easy means, even uninstallation of the iPlayer or 4od programs. I also liked your video about Paxman. Poignant especially after Dimensiongate: "The BBC is longer interested in the audience Red Dwarf formerly used to attract". Red Dwarf proved how popular it is not only in its audiences back then but how well it performs in DVD sales now which the BBC must make a killing out of!

  • Hi Robert, Didnt know you had a yutoob site until this saturday at dj (thanks by the way - highlight of the weekend!)

You have said what i have always maintained for 10 years. Drop the prices and no one will copy anything. Mark up may be less but unit sales will increase. When will they wake up?

I will tell you when... The day that the lounge lizards stop making television, and the actual creatives (who live in the real world)can decide what is really needed to make good british tv.

  • Its on IE because thats what most people have. Its also still in trial phase. Vista, mac etc etc will follow.

  • Robert thats so scary youv been using my computer havnt you

  • dont you find it odd thay call it the I-Player clearly rippin off the apple I products name, yet it doesnt play in apple computers

  • I.E. SUCKS! I refuse to use it. I have Firefox and Safari on my iMac and they're both way better than I.E. ever was. I have no idea why people bother with IE when better options are available. Oh, I love your goofy voices! That whole "Copyright issues" part had me laughing hard.

  • iPlayer, its a beta, that means its not finished yet. the BBC trust have told the Beeb to get Mac and Linux version out in the next couple of years, unfortunately not many people are familiar with the idea of patience these days and you're clearly not one of them. There'll be alternative browser support soon I expect, Vista looks better??? Jesus have you tried using it?, its crap.

  • That's the end of any future BBC career mate! LOL Vista "looks great"? Hardly a deep analysis. Vista sucks cycles to power all that eye-candy crap. Anyone with any sense, anyone high-end gaming or anyone video editing sticks with XP; far more reliable, far less hungry. Incidentally, it's easy to run iPlayer on Vista if you really must; do some research next time. Using Firefox for iPlayer on either OS is a piece of cake too. Ill informed, self indulgent ranting Robert, shane on you.

  • Can I add to that rant? You can't see iPlayer programming from the BBC - Internet Suxplorer or not - if you live outside their broadcast range. So, it's not only greed with keeping the content from being "copied" (like they could stop it...you're right) it's their avariciousness that the rest of the world is not their demo. Sad. I might buy a T-shirt from the BBC shops if I knew what "Little Britain" was. (Wait...do they have shops online?)

  • It's not the Beeb making that restriction; it's the rights owners as part of the distribution deal. Sad it may be, but not because the Beeb wants it that way. I suggest a little research before engaging keyboard with fingers in future.

  • And I suggest a little decorum before engaging keyboard with fingers in future. What is it about the anonymity of the internet that brings out the worst in people? Oh, and by the way, I don't think the BBC is run by totalitarians who will end a person's career for opining on a piece of software.

  • So, in a like fashion, accusations of "greed" and "avariciousness" aren't also symptoms of the worst in people being expressed because of perceived anonymity? And the use of the acronym LOL should have given the game away; I was JOKING about career limitation. I enjoy Mr Llewellyn's work immensely on most occasions. I think Mr Llewellyn's rant on this subject was ill-informed and self-regarding.

Oh, and my advice is don't bother finding out any more about Little Britain; it's shite.

  • Oh, I am not under anonymity...you can reach me through the videos I've posted. But since you signed up mere minutes before posting derogatory remarks it DOES look a bit suspect. And as for my remarks about the BBC and the DRM...(continued because I can't shut up after 500 characters)

  • ...the reason they do not allow downloading outside the UK is because UK viewers have already paid for the content through tax, outside countries have not. THAT is what I am talking about. Instead of making the content downloadable (is that a word?) they could have created a streaming player. Many studios already have similar players on their sites. However, BBC has opted for the "download" aspect which keeps the viewing specific to their demo instead of sharing content with the World.

  • Not true Daphne, it's because the rights owners want to keep their options for overseas sales open.

And there IS a new streaming player in the pipeline. Robert's bleating about an intial BETA,; there's much more to come.

And I registered just to comment on a subject I'm interested in; I don't spend my lfe in here.

  • Television is taxed in the UK, so in essence the people of the UK own the programming. There are secondaty rights holders for some programs, but the BBC does hold right to shows they produce...like with their radio programs. Here's a link with some information from the BBC...take a look at 3.1. (You'll have to edit the link since YouTube doesn't allow them...it's safe, I promise.)bbc(DOT)co(DOT)uk/bbctrust/assets/files/pdf/consult/decisions/on_demand/decision(DOT)txt

  • Sadly, the level of content completely owned by the BBC is incredibly small. iPlayer would have little or no content to distribute were it to eschew the use of DRM. The TV licence fee in the UK does NOT confer ownership rights on anything broadcast by the BBC. The article states "the BBC is not free to distribute content however it

chooses since there are third parties who hold rights in BBC content." This applies to over 90% of broadcast material.

  • You could say most of that about 4OD (Channel Four On Demand) as well!

Did you ever watch my video reply to your Telly Talk 3, BTW, Robert?

  • I had a friend who was downloading some movie that had just come out in Japan at the time (because it had her favorite actor in it), and she was surprised that the film was upside down. All the way through. I laughed.

So, yes, why not just buy it in good quality for cheap? I don't understand fans. :/

  • yes your defeintly right with everything you said about Internet Explorer.

  • Man aren't you a fucking whiner

  • wouldnt worry about it not being vista compatable , that will change im sure. after all its only in Beta still.

  • I'm using Mozilla Firefox,

    I think it's great,

Go get Mozilla Firefox it is much more better than Internet Explorer.

  • i know Internet Explorer is crap

  • rants are great. Nice one! Microsoft wants to control the world.. all hail Bill Gates! :0)

  • Never mind mozzila, opera is the best browser out there :P

  • iPlayer can be made to work with Vista it just requires a small change in the registry to alter IE's settings - do a search on google and you will find it.

  • but thats not as simple to do

why cant the bbc just make a you tube channel and get permission to exceed the 10 minute limit. in my experience if you can see it with your eyes it can be copied in a lossless way so stick it on you tube where 90% of users wont know how to copy it and of the 10% remaining 0.2% will even think about getting a copy on there pc.

  • Because they're not allowed to.

  • Brilliant. The hoi polloi _strongly_ approves or your rant. Thanks.

  • Vista looks better and is easier to understand, so it's obviously superior to all that other old Windows rubbish.

You sure fit in with the Mac crowd.

  • Nice rant!

I agree with most of it.

As a VISTA user, I can only assume that microsoft are trying to let us all have the MAC experience.

Nothing works with it! It seems to be incompatable with most stuff.

    I'm sure it'll improve but...

  • No it won't. You're fucked.

  • I argee, the iPlayer is a waste of time, I don't know why the BBC bother, they like the waste other people time.

  • FFS! every page on that site has the word BETA writtern on it, the program isnt even finished, yes i'd be PISSED if it was the final version but it isnt.

  • Couldn't agree with you more on this one! Internet Explorer is a pile of shite, but then again that's the beeb for ya I suppose

  • Well, if you hate Internet Explorer that much mate you should really get Mozilla Firefox on your PC. It's quicker, more efficient and doesn't share the same habit as IE for sucking up your system resources every time it waves a little white flag. Google it, download it and enjoy (it even has a add-on which allows you to view Internet explorer only pics, IE tab). Look into it, you won't be disappointed.

  • I share your hate of DRM Robert. It's completely useless.

The only online music store I bother doing business with is Bleep dot com. Here's why, this is from their FAQ:

Finally, Bleep files have no 'DRM' or copy protection built in. We believe that most people like to be treated as customers and not potential criminals - DRM is easily circumvented and just puts obstacles in the way of enjoying music.

  • Agreed! Great site. One way to demonstrate how it can work well for everybody without DRM, would be to buy from this site and DON'T then share out the files over your peer-to-peer network :) If music can work this way, then why not video?

  • Considering how Copyright works in media as a general thing. You would think that making something Cheap, Reliable, User friendly and EASIER to obtain then the copyed stuff people download, would not only go the right way to decrease copying in general (you'll never get rid of it...) but would also MAYBE install more faith in the peopl ethat create the content and maybe drive up DVD sales and such.

  • I'm sorry, my last two text responses were to other comments but they ended up as replies in their own right!?

  • Is the iplayer beta? I was sure it was..

Anyway.. If there was a program, made and produced by the bbc, surely they would produce it for XP and WMP? Yeah lets produce it for linux and winamp? Thats catering for the masses!

iplayer IS rubbish, no doubt about it! I have the button unchecked saying dont start with windows, but what does it do?.... uhuh!

I would love to buy movies right here, right now, but there isnt enough "bandwidth" apparently to support that sort of service.

  • I found myself nodding throughout.

  • Well done Bobby, what a FANTASTIC rant! You need to do more on this kind of stuff mate, you'd be a great spokesman for an awful lot of frustrated and annoyed PC users! Bravo, you've got me cheering here like a loon, and I'm gonna go play that again now!

  • I got Vista yestarday!! It's AWSOME!!

  • Well Done Robert for this. I was about to get Iplayer for my computer.

  • The iplayer content is also only available in the UK.

The BBC world content on Youtube is only available to people outside the UK.

The BBC still has some excellent programmes, but they are very silly and should be sent to bed without a mug of Ovaltine.

  • The BBC is paid for by British licence fee payers. BBC World is run commercially for broadcasting, erm, around the world.

  • It is annoying that iPlayer requires IE, but I just checked Channel 4's similar "4oD" service, and it requires:

    - A Windows XP or a Windows Vista PC

    - IE 5.5, 6 or 7

Of course, the reason both Ch4 and BBC have to use DRM is that the production companies demand it. They would not get the rights to make shows available on-demand at all if they did not use it.

I agree it's a waste of time, but tell that to the production companies YOU work for, Mr Llewellyn!

  • Brilliant........... if DRM was even part of an answer then all CD's would contain it. Yeah, get on with it BBC..... and drop the GeoIP as well !!!

  • I do agree DRM is a waste of time, but please also remember the i-player is still in beta at the moment so it makes total sense to design the first version for the most widely available platform with the most widely used browser. Also the beta test isn't just about the software, it's making sure all the back end networking stuff can actually cope with the demand.

  • Hey Robert! You're truly one of the best ranters on You Tube! I love it!

  • Corporation surly!

  • Good Rant, so what do you use instead of Internet Explorer because i use internet explorer and it can be very sh*t (as you so accurately put it)..

  • Well, you could try FireFox from mozillaDOTorg -roll- url restrictions are so kindergarten. Feel like I need a nappy.

  • i used firefox, but comp slows down after a while and some sites are still not compatible!

  • Yes, Firefox can go slow at moments, but, it is continually being improved. The working beta is into version 3.x and that is still a year or so from release. Some updates have been poorer than others, and some better. With all this, it still outclasses IE.

  • aye, i liked firefox! but a few essential websites at the time such as odeon (which i think has nmow changed?) would not work in it, so when IE got an update I moved to it!

I guess its like moving banks!

  • The BBC's relationship with the internet is bizarre anyway.

  • A worthy rant for an unworthy BBC.

I quite agree. DRM doesn't work. Lately the hacker community has been releasing hacks *before* a DRM product even hits the market. The only way to stop it is to lock down PCs from their owners - which Sony tried to do with its rootkit, and the negative publicity sent them scurrying into a hasty retreat. It's definitely time for a new business model for content creators.

  • the problem is that anything released online CAN be hacked!

who sees in ten years time the return of going back into high stores to buy goods?:D

  • The only way is forward, I think.

How can Robert make a living producing TV shows?

One answer: embrace cheap technologies. It need not cost a million bucks to make a single episode. Reduced revenue streams can be tolerated if expenses are minimal.

A home PC can be equipped with more powerful content creation tools today than entire studios had available 10 years ago.

  • You're right man, Internet Explorer certainly sucks ass! A very nice rant indeed! Hey, you're gonna be in Deb's new video! Yey! She's got loadsa people to do their little bit. Should be a nice little vid. Dan =:D

  • Jing project you say? Ahh no more Russian subtitles YAY

  • ***WARNING*** DO NOT TRY TO GO TO: JingProject dot com! My browser crashed everytime I tried to visit that site.

  • IE is so crap that even BT recognises this and has created it's own browser which is pretty good and is pleasent to look at.

  • Jing Project?

  • cool video! but yeah i'm glad it doesn't run on vista. lol I had vista, horrible horrible os! It crashed frequently and instead of claiming an error they say "hardware error, please contact your vendor" no matter what. That way they don't claim responsibility for the error. hahah

  • SWISH!

  • Spot on as always Mr.L.

It's interesting that you raise the point of being able to grab something for a quid via your PC, and that's what almost all tech companies are working towards now. I work as a network engineer for a major UK ISP and I know that if we somehow managed to get reliable DSL, with NO BANDWIDTH CAPS then we'd make a killer, tie that with some form of pennies to watch movie/tv system then it would wipe the marketplace.

    Nice dream though isn't it...
