I have had the 8800GT and went to the 4870 and there is no difference in the way any of my games play except that the 4870 is a good bit faster with Stalker Clear Sky and Crysis.

I wasn't really comparing the 8800GT to the 4870 in terms of power. I was just arguing with your statement that ATI doesn't have good drivers. The 4870 hasn't given me any hiccups in any game that I have played.

The ati 4870 is the rival of the geforce 260gtx, not the 8800gt... you are comparing different generations of hardware... as a matter of fact, yo have to buy the 4870x2 to match the nvidia 260gtx... if you stack two 260gtx sli... then ati comes way down in performance... even thou it could be useful for crysis... or something like sony vegas... nothing more than that the software isn't tuned to those cards yet

usually, PCI-E slots on boards are double-spaced, so you cannot use the slot that is between the two pci-e slots, but you can use the two slots

When he says "it has pci-e 2" he means the video card has a faster version of the pci-e 1. So you only need 1 pci-e slot to accommodate for the card. :D

No, I think he means its a dual slot card, which means it will take up 2 expansion slots: one for the PCIe lane and the lane adjacent to it. This version of the 4850 has a dual slot cooler, while other versions are single slot. You are right about the fact that it can use PCIe 2.0 though, although I hear PCIe 1.1 works fine as well.
