Yeesh... hard question.

If you're just starting, start cheap because a lot of violinists drop out early on. Higher than 50, though, is a good idea if you're really serious about this, but it also depends on what size. Generally people don't spend as much money on non full-size violins because they are outgrown and sold quickly.

If you're going with a 50 dollar violin, you're going to have to move to a more expensive one later if you keep up your practice.

I bought my violin from a local violin maker and dealer, and I got it for much less than it's worth due to generosity on his part because I wouldn't have been able to afford it otherwise.

I won't say the actual number, but it's worth more than a couple thousand.

However, I needed a very good instrument for the advanced classical work that I do outside of youtube.

For someone just beginning to learn, around 100 is reasonable. It's a matter of preference, though.
