If your looking for cool ideas in realistic living, you have arrived. Its totally cool, eco-friendly, mortgage free living for that anyone can do. That is more fun than a fly by night thrill ride.
@davettalashley I doubt it. The hippies care about the earth. They are also "humanists." They see the big picture and how everyone and everything is connected to each other. Change is coming and I can't wait.
@MimiZ914 You think the government is going to allow people to live in an efficient manner?? NO! As soon as they see people becoming indipendent and self efficient they will find something wrong with that style of life and put your ass back in the cities so you can pay those high bills and maintain the Rothchilds and Dupont alive...
True the suburbanized, chemically treated, hate filled republican lifestyle IS being revealed for the fraud that it is. And this has happened before. Those people who are sucking from the teet of that, yes they will be dying off. But those of us who are progressive, open-minded, realistic, not corrupt, eco-friendly, not living a life based on oil consumtion- we are going to thrive, hopefully at the expense of the corrupted.
This is why I'm building a rammed earth or an earthbag home. My needs are greater and I require more space. However, the house I build will, in essence, cost less. Why? Because the earth is free building material. Yes, these homes do have a place but there is such a thing as too small. I see our society evolving and going back to building with earth. That means we will see more homes made of cob, earthbags and rammed earth.
@Tamaresque I think the future will see cities of earthbag and/or geodesic structures popping up all over the place. Earthbag, Cob, and Geodesic ultimately follow the flow and curves of the earth and are pleasing to the eye. Most tiny homes are too tiny and minimalistic even for minimalists so they'll never be a viable option. The cost is too prohibitive for most. There are even the cool compressed earth blocks. You can build a 1500 sq home for 2 grand.
I love this layout. What are the square footage of this house? Also, where can the instanteneous water heater be found? do you list the costs of this house somewhere? Great, great job!
@DannyWilsonsLaundry Thats a great goal. It will feel so good when you can do it all with out a loan. way to go!!! I still think with out some fun money you could possibly get a bit of cabin fever.
@crewlla Luckily, the home is cheap enough (and lot rent is normally cheap enough, too) that you will have quite enough "fun money" to play around with. My husband and I were just talking about that last night. :)
you can get cabin fever if you live in a big house with out any money. symptoms of cabin fever: restlessness, irrational frustration, forgetfulness, irritability, excessive sleeping, urge to go out side wether it be in the dark, or frezzing cold. I feel the symptoms decribed of cabin fever is of some one who is house poor with huge amounts of debt not cabin fever as described. funny how cabin fever has the same symptoms as stress.
I'm sorry but if I lived in that house, I would feel like I was in an Old West exhibit. If the design was more like Jay Shafer's, it would more feel like home.
I've lived on boats for years, now I'm ready to design my own tiny house. Great little house you have, however, I think the hallway is wasted space with the front door there; haven't some valuable shelves or cabinets been lost as a result? Would it not have been better to put the entry at the end instead of windows? Thanks for sharing. you've done great work.
I love this design so much more than the Tumbleweeds! There are a few things I would change, as expected from individual personalities. Tim might have a potential customer.
Actually, the only thing I noticed were 2 of the homes built on hay trailers. I'm wondering what the deck heigth is on those and doesn't that layout make it a bit difficult to level?
I'm in the process I buying my trailer to build my house. Every inch counts and that why it's preferred to have a trailer between the wheels instead of over, so I've read. But I'm looking at a 7 or 8 inch difference and a vast difference in price for the length I need

Already been done, see Walden, Henry Thoreau.

Seems like everyone who builds a tiny house decides to try and make a business with it, either selling plans or building.

@rawmark Except in the cities; we need to find different solutions for those who choose to live there.

It will be the hippies that will survive and thrive in the new world. We've been preparing for this all our lives.

@procommenter And the hippies shall be the last ones standing when all those around them have lost their wits.
God bless the hippies, it will be the saving grace of the new world.
