  • amazing guitarist!!! And singer, beautiful album.

  • For a moment Rick Wills and Gilmour looked like they were in the Shadows with ther swaying, doesnt sound like the Shadows!

  • sounds like satchs flying in a blue dream

  • late at night.

  • THE MASTER.

  • Wonderful, rare footage.

I love this album too. Used to own it on a crap quality Maxwell 90 tape. Still thought it was the nuts.

    Thanks Arnoldlayne2

  • Floyd only got better when waters left...how many times could we listen to how his daddy died in the war? freakin gilmour rules ...roger w/e

  • Great song! Great album!

  • i have to agree

  • what effect does his use?

    (on solo)

  • I only have to say that Gilmour nerver play working, but his work is to play, but I wanna say he play seriously and his song make sense, and overflows felling. The ever guitar and popular music Master.

  • Gilmour is a God, damn I damn the day Flloyd broke up!

  • yea another ol bastard here - album was my senoir year of high school - great! nough said :)

  • Brilliant

  • this is the only solo song gilmour did that comes close th the provenonce of membership in pink floyd.

  • @TheWoelfer

I think "Raise My Rent" could qualify as a song of "Floyd" quality as well.

  • The "Black Strat"................... before neck change and numerous modifications

  • Jusin Beeber, sounds like a dweeber. Everyone talks about this guy, but I can honestly say I don't know any of his stuff, dont think I have even heard any of it without knowing it. I might be the luckiest guy in the world and not even know it!

  • i'am 50 and The Pink Floyd and Gilmour and the rest of the band has put out fantastic albums. I seen this tour and it was great. Years ago they played instruments, unlike now which stars don't have a clue. This song is great especially with a good pair of headphones. David DeSain, Rochester, NY

  • my mom show me who is David Gilmour, thanks mom !!!

  • Just so some of the so called music afficionados of today know-------------this was made even before most of your mommies and daddies were born............just sayin.

  • @technocrash09

Retard, do you think 90% of all people get pregnant at 16? I could diss you for your stupidity further, but I won't, out of respect for the peaceful feeling this song gives me.

So let us both be grateful towards David Gilmour.

  • @Varsar 1st thing-my comment was not directed at you personally (unless, of course, the comment FITS you), so diss-ing me is also "stupid" and "retarded". 2nd-I've been a Gilmour fan since before DSOTM. I know how old my daughters are..the math works. 3rd-I AM grateful for Gilmour's talent beyond your comprehension. Finally, reply only to people who want to chat with you...Obviously, I am not one of them.

    BTW, starting a comment with name-calling is....um....stupid(?). U must B like, 10.

  • @technocrash09 Can you explain the 'working math' then? o.O

  • @Varsar Okay, if you insist. I have a Daughter born in 1979. In 1999 (20 y/o...not 16) she had a daughter. If 51% of the posters on here are know-it-all 11 year olds (51% being "most"),duh... the 'math' works *derp*.On youtube, there are vast numbers of kids (11? Maybe) who try to convince all of us they are geniuses...like U are doing at 16 (Mahalis came out in 78 (32 years ago). Since you keyed on "pregnant at 16", that makes you......16/17....or MAYbe 11! .........O.o.

    Now go away.

  • @technocrash09 Hypothetically, you would be correct. But alas, I join you in your sad grief and frustration about kids and music. The mistake in your so-called maths is, that there are no >1% 'music afficionados' at the age of eleven, or twelve, or thirteen, maybe at fourteen, but not so likely. And <0,1% would listen to David Gilmour. Another alas.

So if one eleven-year old would be into David Gilmour, it had to be your granddaughter, but she's probably into Kanye West, Akon or Justin Bieber.

  • @Varsar Okay, I was going to refrain from getting angry with you, ya little 16 yo punk, but ALAS, Go Fuck yourself! You obviously do not have a clue (the net is FULL of lttle pukes like you 16, 15, 14,,,,,11). Don't bother sending a reply as I have no intention of wasting anymore of my time with an idiot (another "alas"). BTW, my grand-daughter knows more about music than you EVER will!

Gay Bieber is your generation...Turn your Mom's computer off and go suck his little weiner.

  • @Varsar Go back to W.O.W and shut the fuck up. You know little and enlighten even less. "Alas" this-----GFY.

  • @technocrash09

    Well this is rather awkward

  • @Varsar No it's not........it's just boring. Like you. Someday, when you grow up and CAN have kids, you MIGHT understand. Until then, go back to playing your little geek fantasy games on mom's computer. Regardless of what your reply might be from here on out, I will not waste any more of my time with you. Reply all you want and try to impress us with you "mathmatical prowess". I will simply delete and ignore you.

    c-ya

  • @technocrash09 Is the bore not you replying to yourself after a full nine months and annoying me with your narrowmindedness? o.O

    C-ya!

  • This first solo record is definitely a "desert island" disc for me

  • Its unbelievable to me that bands now a days have no guitar solos-certainly nothing close to this.Gilmours still one of best in the world. Obviously!

  • the most beautifull solo. one of my fave tracks on the album.

  • thank you, thank you, thank you. the reason I bought the record and the first time hearing this gem in 25 yrs

  • 2:44 is better than sex

  • sound quality kinda sucks, but let me tell you that : LIVE; IT SOUNDED FANTASTICK! The young lady beside me was so impressed that she could'nt contain herself; she came to me and sat in my lap. I won't tell you what happened after that except, that she was wasn't on any drugs! David Gilmore's music is POWERFULL! It will touch your soul; but, you have to see it LIVE!

  • Oops...someone missed the like button.

  • @Petar1987Grobar

    You're perfectly right man!

  • My god that was beautiful.

  • Double treat here: Playing on guitar on the left is David's brother, Mark, on guitar.

  • @IsisTiamat is it true? What a nice! I knew that this was basically the "Joker's Wild".

So, this Mark appears to be also a good guitarrist, strange how we didn't hear about his work.

  • @getulioprates This is something I read on a couple of Floyd blogs and on Wikipedia's blurb on the "David Gilmour" album release. The only pic of "Mark Gilmour" I found on Google was when one with his band The Scarlet Party. It seems the brothers get on well and David produced some of Mark's bands' albums but I am not sure they were all called TSP. Cheers!

  • @IsisTiamat his left or our left? That's great - talented family

  • @IsisTiamat his left or our left? The blond? Now I think I'm seeing 4 string players - 1 bass and 3 guitar players. That's great - talented family

  • @lupechennel our left

  • Stunning album, and thanks to whos'name who first played me it ... severely under-rated. Great !

  • This is one of my fav songs so much feelings so manny emotions!!!!! its like a ride to another world full of emotions that most people have not found yet....

  • The best part about this album is the fact that it was recorded with the legendary black Strat. Here it is outfitted with a rose wood fretboard left over from the Animals recordings and it will soon get a maple neck for the recording of The Wall. Out of all of his Strats he has played over the years, the tone on this guitar is the sweetest. Raise my Rent off this album shows this well. I'm so glad he decided to bust it out of the Hard Rock to record On an Island.

  • Yeah...It`s a true :))))

  • I think it is Greek for Michael which I heard is the name of his boat in Greece.

  • yes it's Greek,..and the album ''on an island'' the first track is the name of a Greek island Castelloriso

  • Thanks for sharing this, brings back a ton of great memories and hours of listening to this!

  • i agree with giving slow fingered guitarists a chance to be gr8 like sir Gilmour. Cheers!

  • @kingace420 Gilmour beats shredders any day

  • @kingace420 Gilmour beats shredders any day

  • AMAZING album. A single HARD ROCK album, with special musics and spcecials sounds this great guitar man.... GREAT GILMOUR

  • Mihalis means "son of the father" in Spanish. This performance blew me away. I am speechless.

  • Mihalis is also a Greek name, like Vaggelis etc.

  • There's an interview w Gilmour in which he says the song was named after a boat he owned.

  • Cool. Never seen this! Thanks for posting!

  • makes you wanna cry... so beautiful!!

  • i love this guitar piece

  • Thx for the info - Again, he sure put a lot of time and effort into assembling the band for it etc., esp. when most acts would have lip-synched it - Lord knows, PF did it now and again. A shame that it never hit the road. I saw him later in 84 when he toured for About Face but that was a very different sound.

    DAVE, PLEASE RELEASE THIS!

  • Thanks for posting this video. I LOVE!!! this instrumental. The s/t cd from David Gilmore is a gem in every aspect. I look forward to those cloudy Sundays so I can play this cd all the way through.

  • I love this song, and this whole album...I also would have to say that if I were stuck on a desert island, I would *have* to have this album with me.

I just think that, no matter what you're going through, you can't help but be in a good mood after hearing it.

  • If I would be on a desert island, I don't really know if I would take this album, but certainly it would play in my head all day long, hehehhe

  • I can't understand why he went through all the trouble to put together an expanded band, filmed these w live sound on a soundstage, and then poof, nothing came of it. Was this a prospectus for a solo tour?

Also, I've seen this film before (multi-gen dub) without the french scroll at the bottom, and this is clearly a visual dub - Someone's GOTTA have a better looking/sounding copy somewhere... Cough up the goods, Dave! You can't take it with you!

    God bless Dave Gilmour.

  • i agree, its also my fav album of all time. every song on it is tasteful kickass rawk god guitar. and im a bass player

  • Absolutely agreed floydstar! I've played this one more than any floyd album over the last 30 years. Would make my top 10 "desert island" album must-haves. Cheers to all FloydZoids!

  • Greatest guitarist of all time IMHO! David's playing gets better with age unlike peers like Page, Townshend, Joe Perry. Hendrix ruined himself with drugs and alcohol. Rolling Stone needs to be hung for having Jack White higher than DG! Fuck Rolling Stone and Jann Wenner's potsmoking candyass. Gilmour is the greatest living guitarist and gave us people with slow fingers a chance of being great guitarists.

  • Most underrated guitarist in major league rock.
