hey, any idea how to reduce the 'dryness' and incerase the 'wetness' if you like, of the flapjack? I remember flapjacks at the school cafe and they were AMAZING. They were quite squigy, moist and delicious- NOT dry and crumbly as I hate that. Im guessing it has something to do with adding more/less butter/margarine? But iv heard ppl use oil too???
Step 12: (skip this if you filled it already) add the rest of the uncooked flapjack
step12.5 (OPTIONAL!): add MORE chocolate chips/fruit in
Step13: pre heat the oven to gas mark 4 or 150 degrees celcius
Step14:place in the oven and cook for 20 minutes
Step15: Wait.
Step16: take the flapjack out the ove, and if you added chocolate chips, leave for about an hour and a half ( you can just leave it for about 10 mins if you want to) and if you havent, wait 5 min

That's cool. In the US, we would likely call that an oatmeal version of a "bar cookie". The finished cookie is cut into squares. The mix of ingredients would be wetter and denser, with addition of wheat flour, egg, vanilla flavor, molasses, walnuts, and maybe chocolate chips.
just wondering: why use both "butter & Margerine??", cant she, (the wife) just use butter only? On a recent trip to the UK I had many different flapjacks from many different makers,all tasted differently, I was suspecting my least favorite may have used margerine instead of true butter, and I far off base/ Thanks for any replies.
margarine bakes differently than butter, i've found it makes things hold their shape better and have a soft crispiness rather than the hard crispiness that butter can sometimes give to bakes goods, but butter has a better flavor. hence the mix.

@drangboon Im not 100% sure, but try adding more butter and golden syrup (not much golden syrup, unless you have a sweet tooth)
And if that doesnt work, here is a recipe i always use, that makes them moistish
You will need
100g of butter
150g of caster sugar (or brown sugar, which gives it a more caramelly taste)
300g of porridge oats
4 tablespoons of golden syrup (run the spoon under hot water before you add it :D)
Optional: dried fruit or chocolate chips
SNC
ok, first measure out
Kalalagunsou 1 year ago
@drangboon
step 1: Ok, first you measure 300g of porridge oats, and add them to a bowl
step 1.5 (OPTIONAL!!!!): mix in your chocolate chips/dried fruits in with it.
Step2: measure 100g of butter and add it to the pan
Step3: measure 150g of sugar/brown sugar and add it to the pan
step4: put 4 table spoons of golden syrup in the pan (if your using a squirty bottle, put 5 tablespoons in)
Step5: Put your stove on (around the middle, or if your a begginer, a low heat
SNC
Kalalagunsou 1 year ago
@drangboon
Step 7: melt all the ingredients together in the pan (ignore the oats for now)
Step 8: when your pan has all melted, add your oats! (turn your stove off!)
Step9: stir the oats together with the sauce-like liquid
step 10: get your tray
Step10.5 (OPTIONAL!) add chocolate chips/fruit to the bottom of the tray
Step11: add some of the uncooked flap jack to the bowl (if your not using chocolate chips/fruit, add it all in)
Step11.5 (OPTIONAL!) add some more chocolate chips/fruit
SNC
Kalalagunsou 1 year ago
@drangboon
Step 12: (skip this if you filled it already) add the rest of the uncooked flapjack
