  • The models smiled in those days! Why don't they smile now?

  • Who doesn't enjoy an oversized muff?

  • Good grief! I remember the telecast! And this is REALLY had women dressed and looked then! You dressed up to go downtown, you dressed up to go to the movies, you dressed up to go out dining, you dressed up for church, you dressed up for partyand you always dressed up to fly! If you were a struggling wife on a farm in the MIdwest you dressed up for church. The world was segregated then, but believe me, black ladies--rich or poor-- led the fashion parade! We have photos to prove it!

  • Marvelous

  • No wonder men behaved like gentlemen back then. Look at the elegance of these ladies... wow!

  • The bizarre 1950's game show QUEEN FOR A DAY usually had a "fashion show" segment in the middle of the broadcast.

Then, at the end of the show, the winner would be givenas part of their prize the gowns the models had worn.

The contestant was usually an overweight middle aged matron and the dresses were sized for the gamine Hollywood models.

This video segment is from the Christmas week Broadcast of QUEEN FOR A DAY.

The announcer is Jeanne Cagney, James Cagney's sister.

  • The announcer's voice sounds like Barbara Bel Geddes.

  • "Oh yes, ah ha, I see, it's gorgeous, really it is. But remember it's only a dream" haha

  • pride.I would be honored to become the new woman and carry femininity into the future, preserved like fine lace for future generations. In fact, I have made that my foremost charge in life! Oh, I am indeed a male to female transsexual and I can hardly wait until the last semblance of anything even slightly male I am eternally and irreversibly stripped and ridden thereof! Let me please be the one to crush my any remaining manhood beneath my high heels. I AM woman, feminine, female and proud!

  • More and more I feel truly appreciated by the owner and employees of stores, casinos and everywhere and I love it. If women/girls want to discard their femininity for unisex or male-esque attire, Baby it is their loss and my (and others') gain! I am tickled and overjoyed to inherit the grand and glorious torch of fabulous femininity! My extreme pleasure! I shall carry a purse, wear a skirt and hose, smart yet female shoes and invest ample time in my hair and makeup and will do so with utmost

  • I'm a 'guy' (and I do use that term VERY loosely!) and I think that the days of this way of fashion and dressing was fabulous, grand and to be held on the pedestal that the women of then deserved to sit on high above lowly males! Too many women/girls today have no appreciation for their femininity. Heck, many don't even carry a purse anymore! My most adored pastime is cross-dressing and when I go out day or night I am often the best dressed woman wherever I happen to be.

  • 1:35 I would love to wear that dress today. Im 16.

  • These fasions would look good today as well. What's old is new again.

  • 0_o *gasp* that black dress at 2:05 is STUNNING!! with those gloves but ix-nay on the ur-fay

  • All you guys may think it's horrible that women (who could afford it) wore so much fur back then, but we can't change history. The fact remains that these women ALL looked like TEN MILLIONS bucks! Back in the day when REAL glamour was attainable for REAL women, and people actually peformed the EXACT meaning of the phrast to "dress UP!". These days, most people in this country couldn't put together, much less wear a flattering, coordinated outfit if their VERY LIVES depended on it.

  • hahahahaha I love the hairstyle...they look like my grandma! hahahahaha

  • ... so ... much... fur....

  • 3:51 !

  • Lovely trip to the past. Today we can be thankful for great faux furs.

  • wow;they are so elegant

    J like white long gloves

  • The fit of the bodice on that Lily Dache gown is terrible! (Lily Dache is not one of my favourite vintage designers, truthfully.) You'd think that fitters for a couture show should have done a better job. Pretty nice set otherwise, though.

  • those gloves are beautfiul

  • i'm not for excessive waste of animals for fur for no reason but anyone who has lived in FREEZING 30 below weather would be begging for fur! it makes sense! it keeps them warm so it'll work with us, and they are beautiful, it's is a function. and ty for the vid it was awesome

  • Enjoyed this tremendously!

  • Nothing says "Merry Christmas" like the gift of dead animals.

  • LOL

  • Thats so sad, and true, i guess thats why its sad.

  • I agree! We should wear live animals.

PETA stands for People Eating Tasty Animals. We wear the fur because it is indigestible and we hate to waste.

  • i absolutely love the 1950's fashion and elegance..although i dont like the fur...

  • very very nice!!!!

  • fashion in the 50's is orgasmic!

  • Wearing fur is prehistoric.

    What idiots women were.

  • The line about the model looking all ready for a coronation would seem to date this to Dec 1952.

  • I like the 50s but I really think women today get maybe even more respect today than they did in the 50s. We've come a long way, baby!!!

  • Respect as human beings yess...to some extent...what girls wear today is worn under the cloths of the 1950's women. Sorry I left that stuipod Unj=kown TV Show graphic so long.

  • I'm not so sure what you mean by that stupid unj...etc. I've been around quite a long time and in the working world for many years. It is amazing how people in high positions (both men and women) will underestimate your abilities and worth if you are a woman..unless of course you are a favored woman. Well, anyway, I love the fashion shows from the 50s.

Today, there are really a lot of beautiful fasions also. I guess some things never change.

  • I meant that graphic "Unknown TV Show" its up there for a long time. I never noticed until after I put it up. Its to much work to fix.

  • ok, I see what you mean. BTW....I really like the videos you have. Thanks.

  • The women were better looking in those days, more class, more style and I bet they got more respect than women get today too.

  • more respect? yeah right, so long as she kept her ass in the kitchen where she belonged.

  • Feminist much?

  • i beleive that the voluptuous ones, where much more attractive, like Marilyn Monroe.

  • The woman's voice sounds like Alice on the Honeymooners.

I'll forward this vid to my grandmother I know she'll like it.
