  • porter,,you where one of my fav singer,

    RIP

  • Want to be loved get a dog. Being creative takes a special person, not always a loved one.

  • Reflected on my personal dealings with Porter Wagoner. While I disagreed with alot of what the man did and said, his right. He was a pioneer and anchor in the development of country music. He stayed true. Had several great hits. Member of the Opry . He was wrong on many occasions. But, oh so right so many others. With a humble heart and bowed knee, I apologize to you Mr Wagoner. Please except . I' ll be at Toostie's

  • A very haunting performance, every word sung with real feeling. Porter has long been one of my favourite country singers, such a very talented man.

  • I was brought up in a suburb called Parkview in johannesburg South Africa. We didnt have Country music. there then. So I guess I was commited to Parkview

  • This is the round about way Porter received the song

Twenty-five years ago, after Johnny Cash took an interest in some of Wagoner's early recordings, he wrote "Committed to Parkview," about a stay in a mental asylum not far from Nashville, where Cash and Wagoner both spent time. Cash gave a cassette recording of the song to bandmate Marty Stuart, who was instructed to pass it along to Wagoner, which he did-- two and a half decades later

From Pastemagazine great story about it

  • @rrahjayh33025 The song and the performance was pitiful. Sorry. Just my humble opinion.

  • @starr522 i don't agree with you, to call it pitiful is just way off base, sure he had seen better days but he still sounded great, and to say the song is pitiful well i guess what is a good song is a matter of opinion and of course you have yours, but mine is that it is a great song, and i have been in in rehabs and crisis intervention and some say i was not in a good state of mind so i can relate to it,i am happy to say now i am doing pretty good, but i thought his performance was not bad

  • @acadx To each their own opinion. This I deem was pitiful. One last grasp. While he pretty much sounded the same. He was pitiful. I had met the man on several occasions while in the business. I didn t like him. He was arrogant and self possessed. Wanting 50% of all that Dolly made was a freaking joke. The courts ruled in her faver. Porter loved Porter. Not all that shines as gold is gold. RIP Porter. You knew you were wrong on many occasions.

  • Respond to this video... love those nudie suits, wish gram parsons had been alive to be in this

  • Although wikipedia sayes it was parkview inKansas mo. when song was released interviews said it was parkview in Nashville

  • "Committed to Parkview" is the first-person account of a tenant of Nashville's legendary sanitorium, listening in on the tormented cries of his fellow inmates. Porter and Marty decided to build an album, Wagonmaster, around the song

    From Amazon.com

In 1966 his doctor admitted him to Parkview, a former Nashville psychiatric hospital. His friend Johnny Cash later wrote a song called "Committed to Parkview" that was pitched to Wagoner in a roundabout way

    From another article

  • This song did for Porter what "Hurt" did for Johnny Cash, closed out his career on a haunting note. RIP to both Johnny Cash (1932-2003) and Porter Wagoner (1927-2007)

  • @joshuabrooks21 Well put. Both men weren't afraid to look at the darkest side of the human experience, and put it into memorable songs. Memory Eternal to both these great figures of country music.

  • this dudes look scares the shit out of me

  • I was commited to 2 psych hospitals over a 3 month period. Now I'm on disability for a nervous breakdown. This song is dead on with psych hospitals. I have to allow myself to watch it otherwise the anxiety will kill me. R.I.P Johnny Cash and Porter Wagoner

  • Porter never heard of you before but this my first youtube comment - respect

  • Ive been committed. Its no fun, but helps. brings back all the old feelings. Great song!

  • yeah this was written by johnny cash an is on his 1976 album ONE PEICE AT A TIME ... this is a beautiful version .. maybe even better than the original

  • After watching this, a thought occured to me. If you combine every single artist in country music today, along with every concert, show, promotion, and song and added it all up, it still could not come close to touching this man and his stature.

  • dit is echt porter hij was echt een goede zanger GR MJ

  • Yes, it was based on true experience@holto5 Also his last Vid.

  • the follow up to Rubber Room

  • For almost 15 years I am a fan of Dolly Parton. So of course I got interested in Porter, too. I really think he was a fine songwriter.

He should have done more albums in the years before he died. He was quite talented.

This was a touching preformance. Much better than lots of todays country-music.

  • This song was written by Johnny Cash. When I was 11 I had the chance to meet Porter at Bass Pro,he was getting his gun worked on. I didn't really understand how big he was at the time. Very plesant man.

  • @bluegrass4me1 Porter wa the real deal. He loved his fans, and they loved him.

  • Harrowing.Boy,does he pull it off well.

  • We you miss u Porter

  • RIP the greatest opry host EVER!

  • absolute legend mate,top song n well sung,cheers ....

  • Get a life.

  • the David Bowie of Country music...

  • Thanks Marty Stuart for all the help towards the end. You made sure Porter got his due.

  • The eerie side of Country and Western...

  • Three chords and the truth.

  • Such An Amazing song.

  • RIP Porter Wagoner you will be miss greatly!!

  • this man is a king

  • what a talent all will miss you

  • Yes Johny Cash wrote it. it was on Johnny's album in 1976, "One Piece at a Time"

Porter sure did a great job on it.

  • Song brought tears to my eyes. Doesn't matter who wrote it. So sad.

  • johnny cash wrote it about his own experince of being commited there yet porter ended up thier tooo so go figure

  • so he wrote this? wow... was it a real experience?

  • It is my understanding that the song was written by Johnny Cash.

  • @holt051807 Johnny cash wrote it for sure. both he and Porter Waggoner at different times spent some time in Parkviewmental hospital in Topeka Kansas. He wrote it with Porter in mind andc after recording it on The Highwaymen's album One Piece At A time in 1976 he gave the song to waggoner. And who said Country music was all the same

  • I am Commited to Parkview....

  • I always liked this song, but Porter does just a fantastic job of it.

  • CAGLE123 Thanks Porter This is real music not some of todays so called stars if their voices are any good I would not know it with their damn twangy guitars I hate thiis damn crap they play now thanks for posting.

  • Who's gonna fill there shoes?

  • always was one of the best!

  • What can we say ? Porter never lost his ability to sing. His voice was a beautiful now as it ever was. I hope that country music honors Porter in the same way they honored Johnny and June because he is in the same wonderful class as they are. Rest in peace Porter I will never again see you on the Opry but I will always know you are there!

  • Now THATS country music :-) R.I.P.

  • My hero- his music will never die

  • RIP

  • RIP dear Porter, from smerdleyville. He was different, to say the least, and I loved him since the early 1960s, when country music was considered as square and as uncool as "The Polka Hour" on TV. I was a kid then. Porter Wagoner;s TV show was ALWAYS cool, by me.

  • amen brother rip

  • RIP

  • Pray for Porter.

AP reports he hospitalized with an undisclosed ailment in serious condition.

Porter is the elder statesman in Country Music today. I wish him well.

  • 'great video. more power to porter wagoner and all the rest of the country greats who keep making music.
