  • The mechanism reminds me of a toroidal CVT.

  • wow thats really cool

  • I have the same tremolo. And it's FOR SALE

  • this thing is still available at schaller germany.

this is the link to the company:

    guitar (dash) parts (dot) biz

    good luck guys

  • Thank you for posting this! It sounds great within the limit of utube--hows it sound when a tube amp is cranked?Schaller still makes some killer stuff and Cust Support is unreal. I wrote them last night about a screw I had lost on one of their tailpieces--the owner wrote me today and is sending me one---less than 8 hr turn around!

  • I have an old volume pedal that operates on a similar principle, only instead of the motor, the player operates a treadle. It predates the Morley designs, and uses what appears to be an incandescent bulb and solenoid arrangement. It's all in the name of MUSIC!

  • Thanks for all the comments. One more strange thing about this tremolo is that the switch on the top of the box doesn´t control tremolo on/off, but instead controls the on/off of a 220v output socket on the back panel. You can see the socket at about 0.45. The reason for this I have not figured out yet.

  • @efflund it's basically an automated volume control! I own an old Philicorda organ with volume pedal... When I opened the pedal I found only a simple lightbulb on one side and lightsensitive diode on the other... Similar to your device; more light on the diode more resistance so less volume and vice versa! very clever; never any dustproblems or crackling sounds! Mine is operated like a wah-wah pedal..yours is automatic!! Wonderful!! Mine was built in '65!! Anyway wanted to share this story..
  • holy shit where did you get this?!?!?!?!?!?

  • I bought it on german ebay a couple of years ago.

  • I once had an unit called Echoplex which had a tape delay and reverb etc.

  • yeah we know...echoplexes are very common

  • there was also a Schaller pedal called the yi-yi or yo-yo or something like that......it was a wah that said "yoy" instead of "wah" and it was very unusual....VERY RARE PEDAL from the late '60s-early '70s (I think) if anyone has one can you please post it?

    thanx :)

  • yes I had one...the yoy sound was not very great sounding

  • true....they do sound very subtle, and some sounded better than others....but a cool innovation for how young the technology was....I think Boss's "demon wah" will do the yoy-yoy sound, I'm not 100% sure, but I seem to remember reading that it would do the classic yoy-yoy sound....

  • the same concept is employed in MORLEY volume/trem pedals and also in the famous UNI-VIBE used by Jimi Hendrix

    this one is really neat-o!!

Gone are the days of electro-mechanical devices like this.

thanx for letting us see the guts of this dinosaur!!!

  • Thanks for the comment. It´s a shame that I´m too lazy to take it with me on rehearsals and gigs. It´s just too big and heavy.

  • yes....I have the same problem with my 1967 TEL-RAY echo chamber. it is an electrostatic or "oil can' delay and it's the size of a Marshall 50W head. plus it'll shock the crap out of you if you aren't careful. With it's old 2-prong plug, grounding is not always reliable.....ZZZZAP!!! So I parked it and I use a little BOSS delay when I need one

  • @efflund If it s too big for a gig - you think too small. This one will be a show of it s own. Come on , you aren t too lazy. You only don t know how important this art of R&R it is.

Thanks for watching and use that thing !!

  • @econoroller Actually, the Uni-Vibe was driven by an electronic oscillator, rather than the toroidal-CVT/crank/cam assembly you see here.

  • @Desmaad Yep yer right, my bad......I guess I was trying to say the imitating the "doppler" effect was something alot of these pedals had in common, but using different designs to achieve the same basic warble sound....the Uni Vibe and the Morley had totally different designs but kinda shared the same basic attempt at electrically reproducing the doppler shift effect....nothing sounds better than the uni vibe for that warble sound in my opinion (well maybe a Leslie or a pro3 cabinet!)

  • wow - thats cool. I used to have a schaller tremolo small black box... it was excellent I wish I didnt sell it!

  • There´s an old story that says that Bo Diddley was the first who created a tremolo effect by connecting parts of a pendulum clock and the volume knob of his amp. I don´t know if it´s true...

  • it's deffinitely a German made Schaller-62-65era

  • Schaller? German? i never would've guessed.

  • excellent!

  • crazy

  • thats Fkng amazing!

    Year?

  • I have no info whatsoever about this tremolo, that´s part of the reason I put it on youtube, maybe somebody else knows? There are no markings anywhere except on the front as can be seen in he beginning of the video. Any info about this or similar tremolos is appreciated. And yes, it is amazing!
