These kids are being pushed away from our game by over zealous parents being lambasted through print and TV media of thuggery and rough-house play. Sponsors who want these mothers to buy their cereals for their kids care less about the rugby and more about what these mothers think so leverage their sponsorship with NZRFU, IRB etc
to come down hard on this rough play even change the rules!! I dont know about you but I like the rough-house play (not thuggery) and so do you if you are a traditionalist of our game. Makes for great theatre, the tension, the biffo, the shaking of the hand at the end, the leaving it on the field, sharing a beer with your opposite at the after match. Im not a bok fan or anything, but i dunno if you saw the incident....ref blew the whistle and smit pushed thorns head down, and thorn (stupidly) picked him up and dropped him.....
i say stupidly because i believe it was still within the first 5-10 mins of the game and there was rumours of it being a spear tackle, therefore thorn was lucky to stay on the pitch.....
but yes this is sort of a 'play it down whilst playing it up' sort of interview!

What a difference the tri-nations was to the Welsh & Irish Lions tour - no bloody complaining and whingeing after the game by the Boks' opponents ... clearly the best English player in that squad was the collective mouth. Provided they pick a first choice team for the tour, I think the AB's will comprehensively clean England's pipes. As usual. See if you can top 42-6. Wales will be tough for anyone right now.

Just to correct CitySaffer its not the "Welsh & Irish Lions" its the "British & Irish Lions". Im an England fan myself and I agree that SA are the no.1 team at the moment. From what I saw the only major competitor to SA in 2009 has been NZ and British Lions. The home nations will suffer major defeats this autumn but I can see Wales possibly giving a good fight. I think the news of Argentina being in future tri-nations is a great addition to that particular tournament. Bring on RW2011 ;-)

Yes congats SA - well done! I don't regard Aus as no.1 team to beat. For me it's only about SA. Since 1996 professional era v SA, that brings the score to - played 36, ABs won 24, SA won 12. Currently SA no.1 by far despite glitch against Aus. As for the ABs, the end of year tour looks shaky with Eng and Wales perhaps seeing an opportunity to pounce . . .

I'd bloody well gripe if I get dumped like Smit did, he didnt have the ball. In my opinion, Thorn should've been tossed out, and banned for months. He could have easily messed up his back or hip doing that.
That being said, Jon Smit is an excellent captain, and compared to any British captain, he's bloody stoic.
Lastly, why would he bother with a kiwi beer if there are plenty of much better beers to import? :P

I am not necessarily disagreeing with you natforgood! Look i'll pitch it another way - here in NZ the game is in decline due to lack of numbers starting at kids level. These kids are being pushed away from our game by over zealous parents being lambasted through print and TV media of thuggery and rough-house play. Sponsors who want these mothers to buy their cereals for their kids care less about the rugby and more about what these mothers think so leverage their sponsorship with NZRFU, IRB etc

Actually gone down in tandem with SA's success due to all the expat Saffa's living here now (by choice I might add). Browns Bay and Takapuna are overrun with Saffa's thinking they escaped all the crime back home but they are the worst offenders with the domestic & sexual abuse the highest in those suburbs in the whole country.
