@alex10819. Ahhh ok, that was the key I was looking for to taping into those types of effects. Was gonna pick up an obey 40 or something similar anyway. Cool, thanks very much for the response!!
I know this is an older video, but I recently got these bars as well. Are you using a sound mode preset on the units or is this being run off soundmode on like an OBEY DMX unit? I'm Sound mode will only resond to ambient noise, and it's not bad, but certainly won't blackout inbetween beats or anything like you have going on. Any response is appreciated, sorry I know this is older, but I appreciate it. Fantastic song selection as well! :-)
@MintonDMM Hey there! This is in sound active mode on the bars. They are linked in their special ColorStrip Master/Slave mode, which is kinda irritating to work with, but really awesome once you get it working right.
So what you're seeing he is me controlling the sound active mode via DMX. One bar has a DMX address, the other is master/slaved in. By messing with the flash speed and chase mode, you can create effects that the strips don't already have by default.(color change and flash at once)
@pupu562 Yes, the colorstrips do support flashing. You would have to read the user manual to figure out how to set that up, I don't have mine on hand to check right now. It's not terribly difficult though, they're simple enough that anyone can operate one.
doode.....when someone insults you its because they will never are gonna afford something like the ones they are dissing about....dont mention their mothers cause they are not at fault. just ignore them. i got about 10.000.00 dls in powerful moving heads....and im thinking on getting me a couple of this leds bars. yes...i do use dmx.
Is there a way to make them stay one color and just hit to the beat, or do you have to have a seperate controller for that? I got 2 of these but cant get them to act like yours. A lot of the progams don't seem to light it at all. I bought them used so I dont have a manual... any ideas on how to make mine work like this?
Both, actually. The ColorStrip's big function is that it includes a ton of sound-activated macros you can pick from, as well as RGB Mixing. This is just me going through several of the different macros.
Either one would work just fine. The Colorstrip is quite capable of running itself, you simply pick a mode and let it work on it's own. These are all built in macros that the light has pre-programmed in, and are accessed by changing channel 1 to the desired program, then channels 2 and 3 to 255, indicating sound active mode.
thanks!...i wanted to like do the sound activated feature..but then sometimes just fade to a solid color and let it sit on that color...im just new with this dmx controller and its acting funny with the colorstrip i just bought...i must be doin something wrong..
What sort of problems are you having? Mine has issues fading in RGB mode, honestly.
Personally, I use an Enttec OpenDMX dongle, and a piece of software called QLC. The dongle is $50ish on ebay, and the software is free. The problem is that the colorstrip doesn't fade to a color, it snaps to a color.
That's awesome. My band is going to invest in these color strips. I am looking at videos online to verify how great they are. Where do you generally set them up onstage? Send me a message or something.

@alex10819 would you need DMX control to do that?

@omicronx9 DMX control is optional, but you do have to use an XLR cable to link them together.

Set the color you want on channel one, then set your flash speed to 255, which is sound active, and it will flash to the beat.

are they in the sound activation function or are thay being controlled

hi, good syncing, how do you sync the strips to the bass?
kenoir 3 years ago
The colorstrips have a built in microphone, and most of their programs use it to provide sound activation.
alex10819 3 years ago
thx for yr reply. however in this case, wht sound is being fed into the unit? is it only the bass or the whole spectrum of the audio clip?
kenoir 3 years ago
the microphone detects the lower end of the sound frequencys a lot better

Ha, I wish. Saw their show in Knoxville in August, most amazing light show ever.
I just have these lights to do small stuff for local bands in my area.
