It all depends on where you order it from, who your having it shipped to (ffl dealer), how soon they contact you to let you know it came in, and then how fast you can go pick it up. :)P
@THEKINGOFMETROPOLIS Nope, the 416 is nearly the same carbine as the Colt Umarex. Smaller mags, diff stock/grip and $200+ more in price. Its just not worth it too me. I never shoot my Colt as it is. : )
I'd like one of these but i believe the barrel is 16'' Which is 2 inch's short of the non restricted limit. To clarify In canada this is a restricted weapon because its under 18" Which means you MUST use it in a certified shooting range. My preference is guns that allow me to shoot anywhere (My own land, hunting, etc.) Only way i would get this gun was if i also got it re barreled to a longer length... Looks like a solid gun though.
@ryanroflcopter Sorry for the delay in my reply. Health issues over here have taken 1st place in life. :)
I'm not sure about CA laws, but at least here, if you have a 2" extension "Welded" on the end of the barrel, this will add the necessary length you're looking for. It sounds odd to do, but a gunsmith can make a tube of sorts and weld it to fit the end of the barrel leaving room to overstep that law. But again, that's here. I'm again, not sure about there in Canada.
@ryanroflcopter I know this is old so I don't know if it still affects you or not, but S&W makes a "Performance Center" variant that has an 18" fluted barrel. Just a little bit longer and heavier (and pricier, also comes with a Vltor stock and Hogue pistol grip), but it should allow you to use on your own land without having to get aftermarket modifications.
hey dyno do you think that that a magpull ubr stock could fit in this i have one on my bushmaster but i had to get rid of it but i kept the stock so do you know anything about that
@SpliTFrAG Yep! I get board and swap stocks between this and my Bushy as well. I'm too cheap to just buy an extra one. hehe. As you know, it's an easy swap.
But wait! Before this become written in stone, it will swap out provided the "new" stock (Meaning: any stock that is not the original.) has been engineered to be used on a standard "Buffer Tube". The buffer tube on the S&W is permanently attached. (The prior statement was intended for those who may want to attach a "Folder")
@colton12344321 LOL... Yep, I could sit and talk about firearms all day and night. A good day for me is spending all day at a gun show. I've always been fascinated with the history and mechanics of firearms.
I'll buy the Pizza, c'mon over and sit a while. :-)
I just got mine today. It came with a flash surpressor, which which must be a new addition since the first ones that came out did not have one. I can't wait to spit some lead out of this puppy.
Go to page 10 of the safety and instruction manual and you will see remington is not listed as a recommended brand. They say use several types of cci, federal, and one winchester ammo. A blown out extractor does not sound good, best make sure my saftey glasses are strong.
Shot mine today for the first time, very fun. This gun is sensitive to ammo type though, ONLY use the recommended types of ammo (8 specified in manual I got)! Or at least do not buy a 500 round brick of a different type before trying out a few. After I went through a small box of 100 cci rounds I loaded half a mag with some remingtons I had kicking around and they did not want to feed, but I could rap off a full mag of the cci rounds off with out a hitch as fast as I could pull the trigger.
Thanks for the great video- i just shot off my first 50 shots with this gun, the S&W M&P 15-22 i used Winchester SuperX high velocity no problem at all. i did a lot of research and diduced this info into buying this awesome gun. very light but very well made. when i shoot it it feels very solid. i love it!!!
Ruger SR-22 is based on a design, the 10/22, that has been in production since 1964. It's an excellent all purpose .22
The Colt M4 .22 along with the M&P 15-22 are pretty new as you know. The Colt has the Look and Feel of an M4 .223 The M&P 15 is based on the M&P 15 .223. It's lighter and more maneuverable. Both are fun guns to plink with when you're not using Remington Ammo.
The S&W has had issues with the extractor. (Only some.) It doesn't make it a bad choice.
S&W will take care of you 110% if there is a problem.
I own 2 of the 3 and honestly prefer the M&P 15-22 because of the looks and feel of it. It's accurate and the maintenance of the rifle is simple.
I have 2, 10/22's and have had ZERO issues with it with the exception of shooting "cone shaped" rounds. The SR-22 being based off of this design I imagine would run the same. It's a Ruger. They work!
What are you planning on using the rifle for? This may help in offering a better opinion.
Break in stove pipes, FTE's, FTF's, etc.. that's what I'm hearing about this gun! Are you kidding me?
This gun is polymer plastic JUNK!
Get a real gun, the Ruger SR 22. Then, get some 25 round Tactical Innovation Advance Composite fully adjustable mags for it and you have a SOLID, METAL, & RELIABLE rifle!!!
I have 200 FLAWLESS rounds through my Ruger SR 22.... how about you folks with the CHEAPLY made 15-22?
Im trading in my gen 2 gsg5-p for one of these. its more practical. The gsg5-p is dead on but you can either pay $200.00 to put a stock on it or you have to use a sling. its hard to see it go but this gun will have more uses. great video
S&W has engineered this one so that the upper receiver doesn't disassemble. It can be done if you are in touch with a skilled friend with a lathe. But there will be a far amount of time and creativity involved.
It's late, I'm tired, and I should of explained a bit more. oops.
The upper receiver, being made of a polymer plastic may simply be destroyed if one were to attempt to remove the barrel. When looking at the barrel inside the Quad rail, you can clearly see threads. There's just no place to secure the upper receiver to remover the barrel. Applying heat is definitely out of the question. It is what it is.
It all depends on where you live and the local and state laws therein. Here in Michigan, One has to be 18 to own a firearm and we don't have magazine capacity limits on rimfires.
There rifle should fit together smoothly. I've seen a couple that does allow a paper thin gap. It won't effect performance unless you never clean it and it slowly fills with dust/debris after crawling through the mud and dirt. :-)P
LOVE the GSG-5....had it at the range Sun...put 300 rounds through it...not ONE jam or miss fire...The same ammo I was trying to run in the MP 15-22....Sorry they wont be able to sell the GSG-5 anymore...its a Great GUN to just have fun with....
I got a question. My GSG is great except I got these promag mags, 10 rounders but got the longer ones rather than the shorter ones that come with the GSG Pistol. Is it the promag mag that is the issue or will they work better if I use something other than remington ammo? Like I said works great with the short 10 rounders that came with it.
I cant say I dont know...Also guess I must eat some crow!!! My -5 boke a firing pin today...less than 1500 rounds thru it....Guess nothing is worth a shit anymore.....
Damn! Now you got me thinking maybe I should reconsider selling it ! LOL I know they are not making it anymore but that means nothing if they break. LOL I was going to trade it torwards a Bushmaster AR 15. They got like 7 for $1000 new and was gonna to trade in a bersa as well. Damn!
I am unfamiliar with the ProMag brand of magazines set for the GSG series. I tried one some time back for my Saiga 12. The mag is junk. I have not looked back ever since. I had poor customer support and that allowed me to close the door on them for good. :-)P
I picked up 12 mags from ATi when I first got my GSG5. Don't know why I needed so many. I only use maybe 5 max. Better to have than not to have I guess.
lol. I wish I did man. If I did, don't ya think the video would be better quality and I certainly wouldn't sound like I was sleep deprived. :-)
Have you contacted S&W about the issue you are having? They will take care of you. All the reports of trouble I've seen have been addressed by S&W and corrected.
Looking back at the GSG5 series, it took them 3 generations to get the bugs worked out. I waited to Gen 3 before I bought mine. I'm glad I did. :-)
M thoughts on the S&W M&P 15-22 these days. From what I've been hearing about and seeing, those of use who purchased them from the first run of production seem to be doing great.
I believe S&W was trying to kick them out so fast to meet the demand, someone over looked recalibrating the machine the makes the ejector rod. There is a "Fix" that requires "tweaking" the rod a bit to bring the functionality of the rifle back up to par. One would have to scope out the S&W forums for that one.
yeah my dad just bought one for me fire's great and amo is cheep he orderd a thoughsand rounds for 40 bucks and im planing on getting a couple of more mags for it cuz there so cheep
I paid $415 for mine. If I have any trouble with it, Smith has the best customer service in the business and will make it right. Plus, they are made right here in America. I definately have no remorse in my choice after a lot of research and having buds that own them too. They LOVE them
YOU mean the MP 15-22 is a rotten apple...dont get the apples and oranges thing...as for no longer available...DONT care already have a GSG 5....the SW is shit!!!
Why such hate man? They are both fun guns. I have two friends with M&Ps, and 1 with a GSG5. Its not a contest about which is best, its about having fun with what you have. Oh, and I just ordered my 15-22. It will be a nice addition for my Stag AR.
Okay, I have to hear this one. Please explain, using logic/reason instead of vitriol, why this particular rifle is "shit!!!"? I admit that my question is somewhat rhetorical as I firmly believe you don't have much in the way of a sensible reply, but I'm curious anyway :)
OK using big words does not make YOU smart...MAYBE smartASS...MINE did not work SORRY as hell....GET over it!!! ITS aJAMo Matic...was at the range today with my GSG-5...500 hundred rounds...not one jam or miss fire ...enough said.....
Look...I dont have a thing against SW...BUT if you pay 480.0 for a 22 it should work as it was designed to....YOU made the comparison apples and oranges not me....
The Colt, doesn't come in Full Auto. This one's simply not engineered for the pressures of a "Rock and Roll" set up. This is to say, in my personal opinion. It'd be certainly fun. Expensive in time but fun.
The GSG5 vs the Colt, It depends on what you are looking for in a rifle. They are two completely different styles. I love the feel of my GSG5. Yet, I love the realism I feel when I hold the Colt. They're both accurate and fun to shoot.
I really need to get a video of my GSG5 up. I've got mine set up in a more "Compact" way. I use it when shooting critters in the barn.
You can "Mod" up both rifles with minimal skill.
I believe both rifles would be a wise investment. I have heard that the GSG5 has to undergo a few changes as HK whispered a few nasty things in GSG's ear. So, to me, that means value and investment.
The Colt/Umarex... Well, anything COLT is worth at minimum what you paid for it. :)
You got it!! If you can find one, the S&W is the way to go.
The GSG5 and Colt/Um are still great rifles. It's in my opinion that the S&W offers a much easier platform for the everyday shooter.
It's easier to clean and operate. To field strip the S&W, all you need is a strong thumb to be able to push the pins through and the mentality to be able to do so. :-) It's light weight so that if you add optics or accessories the weight would be nearly the same as the Colt. A
Also, the mags are less expensive than either the Colt or GSG5. (Buy 10 of 'em!!)
For some, it takes a bit to get used to the "Plastic" feel of the S&W. That's trivial when it comes to performance. If you're out in a position that you may "Break/Bust" the "Plastic". Then you've got the wrong firearm for the situation at hand. It's a .22 plinker, not an M4 battle system.
It''s Fun and KISS simple. Again, they're all fun rifles to shoot. My personal fav is the S&W for the above reasons.
You're killing me over here.... Haven't you ever been to a firing range? :-)
It's hard for me to say how "Loud" the rifle is. I've lost a great deal of hearing over the years. If I recall, this one would compare to about a high quality firecracker. x2.
I'm curious, are you looking to shoot this thing indoors? I've never had anyone ever ask me if a firearm was "Loud". If that's the case, the sound isn't all you have to worry about. :-)P
Thanks Dyno for the video. I am looking to purchase one of these type rifles very soon. My friend has a Sig 556 which I really like. Have you had a chance to look at the Sig 522 yet? Just curious how it would compare with the Colt and SW. Thanks
I haven't had the opportunity to get my hands on the Sig yet. I have another surgery coming up. So, not yet. :-(
If they have made the trigger set up the same as the S&W, then I believe there may be competition. But if it's a dedicated set up like the Colt, there will be no comparison.
The S&W has a Thompson Center match grade barrel. The M4 trigger group, interchangeable and upgradeable. It's light weight and killer accurate. It'd be a good match up if the Sig had these extras. :)
Lol, lets put the mag in, release the bolt, and now lets look down the barrel! Anyways great vid. I would like to grab one of these but they are quite expensive by the looks at it. Where I live I usually end up paying 200 or 300 more than the average retail price anyways. I'll probably go with the Ruger 10 22. The AR variations I've seen arn't quite as badass in appearance but they should suit my needs.
The Joys of Video, I didn't look DIRECTLY down the barrel. The camera did. I was leaning back using the view finder. :) So, ALL CLEAR on my end. :) But good call. :-P
I've got about $800 into my Ruger 10-22. So it's a matter of whether you want to dish out cash early or in time. Ruger has their new Tactical SR-22. I just may be picking one of those up as it's based on the stable/reliable 10-22 set up. Check it out. I love this S&W, but one can't beat a Ruger 10-22 in any fashion.
Nice, which stock configuration did you go with on your 10/22 if you don't mind me asking. I've been looking at archangel stocks, which look great in my opinion but are a bit pricey. The tapco ones seem a little better priced.
I have one of these guns and it jammed the very first time but after that one time it never happened again. The magazine is kind of a bitch to load. but in all im glad i got one.
I found a website that has these for $370 but they are all out of stock. Everyone is out or has yet to even get any yet. Im dying to get one, I never thought a .22 could be this badass.
Yeah, that's the extreme low. I know the site to which you speak. :) They have my Cred card on file. hehe. I ordered through them, and got tired of waiting and bought from a local shop for about 60 bucks more. Glad I did, I'd still be waiting. :) I'll pick up another 1 or two as soon as I can. :) I love these!!!
i would deffinatly take the smith over the colt any day. 1 because theres a lot of fake parts on the colt like you said. 2 i just like smth and wesson. i wish it had a foward assist thouigh that would be cool. But i like the brass deflecter i was looking into 10-22s and SR-22s but this tops them all i hope to one day own this gun. Also i heard this gun is REALLY hard to find. Anyways awesome rifle.
Check out my other video. :) I've put about 2k rounds through it. **Knock** on wood. I've only experienced 2 FTF's and one FTE. All errors while using Winchester. I've noticed keeping the mag "Lightly" lubed with a spritz of "Rem Oil" helps avoid unwanted failures.
Thanks, I just watched it. I don't know how I skimmed over it yesterday. It looks like a great gun, and I'm really leaning toward one of these instead of building a custom Ruger 10/22, especially since I'll be doing 99% of my shooting off hand and not from a bench.
Sounds good. I'm not trying to push one rifle over the other here. However, ask yourself which will suit your needs more. Building a Ruger can be more expensive in the long run. yet yield a greater reward in accuracy and reliability verse a basic "turn key" rifle from S&W. The S&W is killer accurate and fun to shoot. The mods available for it are limited over what's "Tried and True" mods for the Ruger. I have over a grand into my Ruger and way under in my S&W. :) I Love 'em both!!!
Thanks for the insight! I'm pretty much just looking to shoot cans, and I think the 15-22 would also be better for my wife since it's nice and light and has the adjustable stock to fit her short little T-rex arms.
Ya know, my wife and I really got a kick out of thet last statement, "T-Rex" arms. hehe.. My wife loves shooting this one. Makes me want to purchase another for her. :)
I just finished my 10th Box of Federal .22LR (Walmarts 550 packs) Knock on wood, only a couple of small feeding issues. I'm blaming the ammo as I've noticed a few flawed rounds here and there within the boxes. I'd shoot CCI if I could afford it that's for sure. :)
you can just order that?? lol

Hi

Better to have than not to have I guess.

thats the ones I have that are junk. LOL Promag that is. I was looking at the 30 round mag they had for my XD 9 but I may not after what you said.

LOOK on the web...You WILL find at least 50% of the people that own these are having the SAME trouble...DO YOU work for SW?
32hibo 2 years ago
Whats going on with yours?

M thoughts on the S&W M&P 15-22 these days. From what I've been hearing about and seeing, those of use who purchased them from the first run of production seem to be doing great.
I believe S&W was trying to kick them out so fast to meet the demand, someone over looked recalibrating the machine the makes the ejector rod. There is a "Fix" that requires "tweaking" the rod a bit to bring the functionality of the rifle back up to par. One would have to scope out the S&W forums for that one.

I paid $415 for mine. If I have any trouble with it, Smith has the best customer service in the business and will make it right. Plus, they are made right here in America. I definately have no remorse in my choice after a lot of research and having buds that own them too. They LOVE them

I have the GSG-5 and the SW MP 15-22 the GSG-5 is FAR better!!!!
32hibo 2 years ago
@32hibo Apples and Oranges, besides you won't be able to get the GSG-5 much longer since ATI got sued by H&K.
SeventyGTX 2 years ago
YOU mean the MP 15-22 is a rotten apple...dont get the apples and oranges thing...as for no longer available...DONT care already have a GSG 5....the SW is shit!!!
32hibo 2 years ago

DUDE..my tactical.
it looks like you know your shit so im gonna pose this to you..
would you recommend this gun (which i want to buy) or the GSG mp5 version. (german sport guns) ?
knuckleupjonez 2 years ago
The Colt, doesn't come in Full Auto. This one's simply not engineered for the pressures of a "Rock and Roll" set up. This is to say, in my personal opinion. It'd be certainly fun. Expensive in time but fun.
The GSG5 vs the Colt, It depends on what you are looking for in a rifle. They are two completely different styles. I love the feel of my GSG5. Yet, I love the realism I feel when I hold the Colt. They're both accurate and fun to shoot.
mytactical22 2 years ago
I really need to get a video of my GSG5 up. I've got mine set up in a more "Compact" way. I use it when shooting critters in the barn.
You can "Mod" up both rifles with minimal skill.
I believe both rifles would be a wise investment. I have heard that the GSG5 has to undergo a few changes as HK whispered a few nasty things in GSG's ear. So, to me, that means value and investment.
The Colt/Umarex... Well, anything COLT is worth at minimum what you paid for it. :)
Good Luck.

you never talked about the m&p.
from what i've been reading..that is the cream of the crop man.
knuckleupjonez 2 years ago
You got it!! If you can find one, the S&W is the way to go.
The GSG5 and Colt/Um are still great rifles. It's in my opinion that the S&W offers a much easier platform for the everyday shooter.
It's easier to clean and operate. To field strip the S&W, all you need is a strong thumb to be able to push the pins through and the mentality to be able to do so. :-) It's light weight so that if you add optics or accessories the weight would be nearly the same as the Colt. A
mytactical22 2 years ago
Also, the mags are less expensive than either the Colt or GSG5. (Buy 10 of 'em!!)
For some, it takes a bit to get used to the "Plastic" feel of the S&W. That's trivial when it comes to performance. If you're out in a position that you may "Break/Bust" the "Plastic". Then you've got the wrong firearm for the situation at hand. It's a .22 plinker, not an M4 battle system.
It''s Fun and KISS simple. Again, they're all fun rifles to shoot. My personal fav is the S&W for the above reasons.

How loud is this gun(give me an example such as a loud clap or wood smacking on the ground)
2012FutureMarine 2 years ago

Thanks
dukeno1 2 years ago
I haven't had the opportunity to get my hands on the Sig yet. I have another surgery coming up. So, not yet. :-(
If they have made the trigger set up the same as the S&W, then I believe there may be competition. But if it's a dedicated set up like the Colt, there will be no comparison.
The S&W has a Thompson Center match grade barrel. The M4 trigger group, interchangeable and upgradeable. It's light weight and killer accurate. It'd be a good match up if the Sig had these extras. :)

I went ahead and ordered a m&p! Can't wait to get my hands on it!

The AR variations I've seen arn't quite as badass in appearance but they should suit my needs.
michael7252 2 years ago

The tapco ones seem a little better priced.

can you by more magazines?

You can buy them from S&W directly. around 20 bucks and change. :)

Anyways awesome rifle.
drogngg 2 years ago
Have you shot it yet? If so, have you experienced any of the FTE/extractor problems that others have been seeing with this rifle?
SheepNutz 2 years ago

SheepNutz 2 years ago
Sounds good. I'm not trying to push one rifle over the other here. However, ask yourself which will suit your needs more. Building a Ruger can be more expensive in the long run. yet yield a greater reward in accuracy and reliability verse a basic "turn key" rifle from S&W. The S&W is killer accurate and fun to shoot. The mods available for it are limited over what's "Tried and True" mods for the Ruger. I have over a grand into my Ruger and way under in my S&W. :) I Love 'em both!!!
Thanks

Thanks for the insight! I'm pretty much just looking to shoot cans, and I think the 15-22 would also be better for my wife since it's nice and light and has the adjustable stock to fit her short little T-rex arms.

Ya know, my wife and I really got a kick out of thet last statement, "T-Rex" arms. hehe.. My wife loves shooting this one. Makes me want to purchase another for her. :)

My brother has had his M&P15-22 for 4 weeks with 3,400 rounds through it...zero problems! He uses CCI ammo.
