  • Teresa: Why wouldn't you use the magic circle at the beginning? It looks like you're struggling to get 20 hdc's in the 5 chains.

  • Hey Teresa :)! I want to make this hat for my niece. Is this a good size for an 9 year old girl? (If not what should I do to make a smaller one?)

  • Thank you Teresa for this pattern. I don't waste my time with the tails, as I crochet them in as i go. But thanks for this beautiful pattern! I'll post a video response with the finished hat soon! :}

  • ty Teresa

  • Hi Teresa you are my inspiration!

I would like to ask you a question. When u write subtitles with universal studios on your video how do u upload the videos to youtube?

  • @velonakigr I upload them in to my captions under edit captions.

  • You are a great teacher and I love your voice which is so calm. Just recently i stumbled across your interview on Forbes and I was amazed. You are such a clever woman. I was wondering why you go into all that trouble making all these videos and distrubuting them for free. But now I know. You must have so much love within your heart. And that is why you receive all this love from all your viewers because when u give love, you get love back. It;s the law of attraction.

  • Hello Teresa,

i would like to make a bigger one, aan adult size. can you tell me how to increases?

by the way, i'm so thankfull for all the video tutorial you're making. Thank you!

  • @isafreaks This is an adult size cap. The easiest way to increase is to use a larger size crochet hook. If that is not enough, you will work additional increase stitches.

  • What size of needle should i use for a child size hat? or a toddler?

  • @lnkrueckeberg I have this tutorial worked up for a child size head.

  • the yarn color is too dark to see you make the stitches. Also I can't tell if you start the first star stitch where the ch 3 is or do you start on the next stitch then go into the next 3 or 4 loops..please explain I just don't get this at all and I really want to make it. thanks Teresa...love all your videos and have learned so much from you but this particular video is just too hard for me to understand.

  • @cs9295 I do have a separate tutorial showing how to work the star stitch. I will send you the link.

  • i make the same hat for my little girl just like but I did with red colour !this one''star''is very beautiful! Teresa apologize for my English! ThankS FROM MY HEART Teresa FOR teach us and show us TO DO WITH our hands How to make BEAUTIFUL MODELS ALSO! We love you! HOT Greetings from Romania, EUROPE

  • @maryhynt Thank you very much! Please share a picture of your little in her hat on my Facebook page.

  • I've tried over and over to crochet beanies but i always seem to make them small even though i follow the instructions!!!

  • @ELFLAKOE1 There are a few reasons why the cap may come out smaller. One could be a different with the crochet hook. The yarn could be smaller. You may naturally crochet tight. You can make adjustments by using a larger hook, yarn or using more increase rounds and stitches to make the cap larger.

  • @ELFLAKOE1 when I use an I hook mine always come out too large ( adult caps) you need to look at the written instructions for the projects you are doing and see what her stitch to inch ratio is. I need to use a "G" needle to get the same results she gets with an "I" needle most times. I think everyones tension is different.

  • Theresa, what is your yarn called? The only thing we have similar looking here in the UK (that i can find) is the Kool Kotton that I use for my Fluffles and Scruffles.

Our normal DK, 4ply and Baby wool is all fluffly, but this looks nice and smooth like washcloth cotton.

  • I LOVEE the noise the yarn and the stick thingy needle make when the rubb together:D

  • u are the best! God bless u!

  • @bikkandbee How kind of you. Thank you! :)

  • Sew the tails in as you work, so you dont have to sew them in at the end

  • I like your videos and I'm making this hat for my little sister. I haven't been able to crochet lately because I've been busy. My baby girl was born on Feb 23 and I have been taking care of her, also I'm gonna make this hat for her as well so thanks.

  • This is a great hat but, I want to know wha size hook your using. I want to make it the same size as yours. I love all your videos they help me make things for me, my family and my boyfriends family. I haven't been crocheting latey cause my baby girl was finally born on Feb 23 and I have been busy. But I'm glad you made these videos and I'm trying to make this hat for my little sister. So what size hook you using?

  • I made this one for my boyfriend and he was amazed that I make stuffs like this thank you Teresa.

  • @ammustarz You are welcome. :)

  • I mean this in the cutest way possible, I have the same effect on people. I love watching Teresa but always, and I mean always her soothing voice puts me to sleep. I have the same effect on my entire family and never met anyone with that capability. It's actually very nice. I 'm a loyal student and will remain one as long as I have music on in the background to keep me from falling asleep. :) love ya Teresa...

  • The slo-mo helps many of us who may not be as experienced as you.

  • can i just use the magic circle instead of the chain 5

  • How come there's no more room for more HDC in round 1? They just overlap themselves. I'm doing what you said, but it don't ever turn out right. Using the right hook and yarn. Don't get it.

  • You are a blessing. I started crocheting a month ago. My son died in a car accident in March and this is helping my mind. My daughter showed me how to make a cap and then I found your shell video and made a shell scarf and hat. I am now trying to make this star cap and on round 2 I am coming up with 8 stars instead of 10. I counted to make sure I had 20 HDC in round 1. I have taken out round 2 several times practicing to get the star stitch down. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

  • I am sorry to hear about your son. I have an understanding of your pain, in my own loss of an infant son at birth 23 years ago. Crochet played a big role in my grief process.

I am thinking that you may be missing some of the half double crochet. from the first round. Just add a couple more half double crochet on round 1 so you can get 10 stars on round 2. The extra stitches will not affect the size or outcome of the hat.

  • I was wondering where you obtained your styrofoam head to display your hats on? I'd love to find one so that I can take pics of my hats and sell them.

Sorry I would've posted this question under your Hat Modification post but comments are restricted to Team Members only so I thought I'd come here and ask.

Thank you so much for replying and everything you have done to teach me how to crochet. Happy Holidays to you and yours! :-)

  • I purchased the Styrofoam head from Amazon. You can purchase them from a local beauty supply store if you have one. I recently purchased a plastic head from my local beauty supply store because the Styrofoam head wore out.

  • Thanx for the video! How may I get the written directions?

  • The link is posted under "More Info" in the video description box.

  • omg thank you soo much for sending me the link :) i've actually tried to do it as a hat...it was hard not knowing what to do lol

    Thank You

  • hi.. can you post a video of how to make the bob marley hat... tnx so much... :)

  • hi tjw1963... can you post a video of how to do the bob marley hat... :) tnx so much....

  • Is there anyway with your wonderful software to make this a tutorial for left handed persons? I love this hat but can't do it right handed!! I love all your tutorials for left handed..we need more!!

  • i have a question. I making the hat for my brother (he has dreadlocks) so I'm making it slouchy so it holds all his hair. But I wanted to decrease towards the end of the hat so it wouldnt slide off his head. How can i do that?

  • You would decrease stitches. You can pull one extra loop through the center of the stitch you are skipping and combine it with the next stitch. You should not have a big hole.

  • hi, Teresa..my son's head size is 20"...i know he has a big head...btw..do you have east pattern for table cloth...?or for the couch...?i'm trying to understand the pattern on the books or on the sample that we can get from the store..

  • I sent you a message with the link to the hat pattern.

  • Teresa, Thanks for showing the star stitch so clearly. My friend & I hadn't done that stitch for a long time and had forgotten how. It will make a great baby blanket.

  • You are welcome. :)

  • hi Teresa, i want to thank u.i never make a project before.however, after i saw your video, i made 2 hats. finally i made it. btw do u have a video how to make a toddler boy hat. cause i have a son..

  • You are welcome. I have a pattern for an 18" head. What size is your sons head?

  • If I wanted to do another increase round would I do 2 hdc in the next 5 sts and then 4 in the 6th?

  • Yes, that is correct.

  • hi Teresa, how are you?

i just saw how the hat looks like and i liked it so much although i didn't see the video yet.

i am planning to do it and i wish it will be as good as yours.

    thanks for the videos,

keep up the good work. :-)

  • Thank you. :)

  • Your videos are great! I have just started making hats for a friend who was just diagnosed with breast cancer and am addicted to making them now!! Thanks for your videos!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • great video, but the squeeky yarn hurts!!

  • I love this! I am very much a visual learner, instructions in a book never helped my much so this is great, Thank you!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • just letting you know i've been enjoying your tutorials for awhile now. you are very amazing. for this pattern, is it okay to make the hat shorter, as in leave off maybe two striped rows so that there would be only 7 contrasting rows instead of 9?

  • Thank you. Yes, you can make the hat as short or as long as you want to. You can make it in one color too.

  • thanks again!

  • This video is great. Thanks so much!

  • You are welcome :)

  • hi, im wondering how big is that hat, because i want to make one for my baby cousin, she's 5 years old, how should i do the increasing stitches? can u give me some suggestions?

  • The cap fits approximately a 22-24 inch head. What you would do is not add all the increase round at the beginning of the cap. Maybe leave off the last increase round so it will fit a smaller head.

  • I have done a new video tutorial of the star stitch cap that will fit an 18"-20" child's head.

  • I also have another question. If you sew in the ends ,is it possible for them to fall out when you wash the project and is it possible for the project of whatsoever to fall apart when you wash it ?just curious

  • Yarn tails will probably come out at some point in the wash. The hat will not come apart and the tails will not all just fall out. You can knot the tails really well prior to sewing them in. You can also use washable fabric glue to secure your tails if you are concerned about the tails. You just need a tiny dab. Make sure you do it on the inside of the hat because the transparent glue is not really transparent and will show up on the outside

  • hi!i was watching ur videos & its great tutorial,i have like a year looking for videos like this.i want to do a cap 4 my daughter & son.

  • I'm Just Wondering How Much Yarn This Project Needs.

  • On skein for each color. One skein will work for one color.

  • ill be using baby colors in pink blue yeallow and lavender... now i just have to think this out very much because i want it to look even not like an unfinished clor pattern... any suggestions?

  • Take a skein of each color and place them in various orders to see what one you like the best. You might consider adding white as one of the rows and then add an edging of white.

  • dont you just looooove the aqueaky sounds yarn makes?

I made a water bottle holder/pouch (so my daughter wouldnt lose her water bottle at school now she carries it like a long purse :) ) using this stitch and the flat pouch tutorial im definetely making this one I have friends that live in Washington state I bet these are very warm. Thanks Teresa!

  • You are welcome.

  • umm,,, how long did u take to make this?? it looks awesome!!! hats of to u lady! im doin the same thing, thnx to U! but im takin ages! hehe,!

  • Thank you. :) It took me a couple of hours to complete.

  • does this hat work up as fast as the cloche or single crochet hat u have on the internet? i'm working on two cloche hats now, finished up a single crochet. I'm going to post pics...thanks again 4 your awesome ability to teach and share! Donna + 2

  • It works up pretty fast. Faster than you would think.

  • thank you so much!

  • thanks for making it slow-mo!!! i've always wanted to learn this type of stitch

  • You are welcome. :)

  • do u know any good scarf patterns?i usually just make mine with only single crochets but i was looking for something a bit new...i also bought some alpaca yarn :) which feels really soft..

  • You could use this stitch for a scarf.

  • Oh I love this. I saw a hat in a store just like that. I am going to make this asap!

  • Making your own is the great thing about knowing how to crochet.

  • This is really wonderful! If it were done in light thread it would be much easier to see.

    Thanks :)!

  • Did you miss the white rows? :)

  • sorry..just to mske sure....during rnd 8....1 star stitch and then 2hdc?

  • It's alright, asking questions is how you learn. When all the increasing is done, you do a row of star stitch. When that row is complete you do a row of 2 HDC in the joining loop of the previous row. Every other row is alternating, starstitch, HDC, starstitch, HDC. Have you been able to find the instructions on my crochet blog? It might help if you are able to see how the rows go together with each other. Just a thought. :)

  • pretty much just 1 HDC in each stitch?

  • 2 HDC

  • in rows 8 through 19...do u do 2 rows of star stitch or 1 row of starstitch and then a half double crochet?

  • It is just star stitch, HDC, every other row. The instructions are posted on my crochet blog.

  • o..ok..i was a little confused..thanks :)

  • how many stitches would you use for kid's different size heads to adult and baby.

and will it make a difference if you use a different type of yarn ? Awsome work.

  • I would need to revise the pattern to give you that information.

  • OMG that hat is just soooo BEAUTIFUL!!! im doing that in school, but were doing it diff, i love how you do it!!! i want a hat like that one!!!! very nice vid, it isnt like the other ones that you dont understand anything, i understod perfectly!! =)

  • Now you can have two hats. The sky is the limit with crochet stitches and hats.

  • My goodness I can't wait to get my hands on some more yarn so I can make one of these, Teresa your the BEST!!

  • Thank you.

  • You have such a great gift in crocheting and teaching thank you for sharing it with us...

  • You are welcome. :)

  • Why does it "squeek" when you crochet? Is it because you crochet tightly?

  • I don't crochet that tight. It is probably the yarn. It doesn't not happen all the time. Red Heart 4-ply is a stiffer yarn and that is what I was using in that project.

  • Very nice stitch thank you

  • You are welcome. :)
