Hello, I'm from Rio de Janeiro/Brazil ,I'm 19 and I'm an english student, but I have never been in an english class although( I have just learned this word by seeing your reply above,in portuguese it means " apesar de " ) there are too many english courses here but I prefer learning english by listening to musics and reading the lyrics, playing videogames and talking to my baseball physical trainer who is american, although I prefer the british way hahaha, but I just want to say you're amazing!
im Swiss and i like your english very much :) It´s so warm, because sometimes i don`t like american english because it`s so fast and hard. Go on like this!!!
@Simonky95, hello, thank you very much for your lovely comment. Unfortunately, I won't be making any more of these because although I thought it was a good idea, they are sooooooo time consuming to do. Take care, Eric.

I once prownowced 'Owd Mrs. Ruttercutter has a rough cut punt' hincorrectly. I din't do it on perpose, it just come out wrong. Well; I gorrin a load o' trouble, din't I?
I've only just seen a couple of your videos but you've just become my biggest inspiration! I love how you're doing what you do not just for your enjoyment but to spread joy and to teach other people, and if we could all be that selfless the world would be a much better place
@immy99218, hi, thanks so much for your lovely comment. Unfortunately the videos are very time consuming to make and I don't have the time to spend making them any more although I hope the idea is beneficial. Take care, Eric.
You should be commended or paid for this, making such an effort for people learning to speak English, its a wonderful thing to see!
Great videos, you show a clear passion for life and a lust to show people you obvious talents and gifts, im glad your so popular because such skill and generosity deserves as much.
O, how I love bread and butter pudding! I had it once at a lovely café in Windsor, Berkshire and once from Sainsbury's (which wasn't as good). But they don't do it over here. So, hail to 'Bread and butter pudding'! ;-)
Didn't understand a word! Lol! So GREAT to see you back. Eric! I was checking your channel for new vids a couple times a week, up until about a month back when things started getting away from me. Then I looked again, and wow! You've been busy! Wonderful new project you've got going here! I wish you great success with it! Break a leg, too! That's for the singing parts! Will be subscribing to your new channel! 5 stars! :)
i would like to know, do you teach english as a profession? i was wondering as this clip reminds me of being taught french at school. it was very good and keep it up!!
Hi SuperTravisbickle, thanks very much. No, I am not a teacher, never was. It was just an idea I had one day so followed it through. Incidentally, I will soon have another channel on YouTube specifically for these. Take care, Eric.
Hi Eric. Glad to see you on camera again with your new language programme and good luck with it but Eric are you trying to start a North v. South Civil war with your reference to your intended use of "Southern Standard English" Ill have you know its said that the clearest English spoken is that of the Manchester area. So there! Red lorry....Yellow lorry....Red lorry....oh get off Ron and stop being silly! Bon chance Eric ..Regards Ron.
22989169, Hi Ron, lol. I do hope all the people north of Watford don't take offence at my vids, I shall have to flee the country and seek sanctuary somewhere else, He he. Your point is well made of course, in fact, as I understand it, Shakespeare's plays were performed in some kind of Midland's accent. Trouble is, I'm from the South, what can I do? Cheers mate, all the best, Eric.
Hi Eric, how nice to see you again ,wot about Duck a l'orange no Trotterisms i hope. reign, rain, fete, fate etc one of my favourite subjects the English/British language
Hi Ernie, 'oh contraire' as Del boy would say. Yeah, you've hit the spot there with your examples, they will be some of the things I'll be covering. Thanks so much for posting, take care, Eric.
Hi Lefuimba, thanks so much for your comment. That's a very interesting point you bring up. I think however that would be too abstract a subject to try and explain, Professor 'Iggins I ain't. Hope you get that little joke. Good point though, as quite often I hear English spoken by people from another country and because the emphasis might be wrong on some words it can make it hard to understand what the person is saying. Anyway, I hope my vids might be of help to some people. best, Eric.
Hiya Eric, glad to see you're back, looking well and happy. This is a new departure and a good idea, being as I'm a proper cockney such as like what I am the videos might even come in handy for me!
Well Well Well Eric..you are BACK!!!! This is a bit of a departure for you!!!! I will watch these vids since as an American we butcher the kings English anyway!!!!LOL All the best
vampireratt, hi Cary, lol, but not true of course. Some of the greatest writers in the world are American. One of the things that America does so well is make pithy little rhyming phrases. Have to admit though I have to use subtitltles when watching C.S.I. really. God bless, Eric.
I work with many people who are learning to speak English (American). My suggestion to you is to slow down when you speak. Some of them had trouble following you.
AnotherSpecialEdMom, hi Martha, thanks so much for that. Good point. I'm grateful when people, like yourself, give me advice from their perspective. I shall take it slower in future. All the best, Eric.
Hi Eric and good to see you back on YouTube again. Also, after a 2 month break from the internet due to illness, I too am glad to be back on YouTube. . . . . The two witches . . . . . . Its been found that there was a 3rd witch who so happened to be wickedest. But its still yet to be proved if she was a witch at all :o)
Thon glaikit scunner o' a man o' mine says he canny unnerstaun whit yer haiverin' aboot, an' says ye bleather a load o'mince. See me, I think yer English lessons are fair fantoosh!
A VERY rare minority of people would think about helping those deprived of the ability to fluently speak English, yet you are more than happy to assist! With your words of wisdom, elloquent speaking tone and well pronounced words, with your excellent singing voice and lyrics people are bound to pick up in no time!
MiK3i, hey Michael, wow, thank you, so kind. Well, I hope they will be of help to some. If not, at least I hope they're entertaining. Take care chum, all the best, Eric.
I wish that an international language would be chosen by many countries to be a neutral one, such as ESPERANTO. So that there would be no unfair advantages. English as an international language is a fact, but it is unfair for all countries where english is not spoken natively. So esperanto could be taught at schools as a second language in UK, USA, Europe, China, etc. So in 20 years a whole generation on earth could communicate with each.
alliax, hi James, thanks for posting. Yeah, I know what you mean but hey? what can we do? Life ain't fair. Anyway, from what I can glean, we should all start learning to speak Chinese..!! Also, technology is advancing so much that it won't be long before it won't be necessary to learn any languages, one will simply have a hand held speech to text computerised translator. Maybe it's already been created. Take care, Eric.
Love it!!! Very nice introduction!!!! It's really a good idea and I think that you're the only person I would to learn english from... Sorry for the english but I'm still studying at school. I'm sure I'm going to watch the upcoming videos!!!! 5 from belgium!!!
TheAsperge, Hi Pieter, thank you very much for your lovely comment, I'll try not to let everybody down. Your written English is very good. Thanks too for rating. Take care, Eric.
Hi Eric - Good to see you again. I can't wait until you get to grips with the apostrophe!!! (or should that be 'get to grip's'?). Bad punctuation drives me insane, and the misplaced apostrophe drives me round the twist!!!! Keep up the good work, and PLEASE keep the music videos coming!!! Robbie
ColCalverley, hi Robbie, thanks so much. Yes, I know what you mean, I'm beginning to give up hope with apostrophes I see them misused all over the place, either that, or they're not used at all. Language evolves of course, and when you and I are long gone, I have a sneaking suspicion that the English language will be reduced to a series of grunts, and the way we speak now will be considered 'old English'. Take care, Eric.
texasdallasbill, hi Patrick, thanks so much for that. I've just watched your 'Othello' vid. Hilarious. If you took these sketches to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival you'd go down a treat and come out on top, I'm sure. I recommend everyone to watch your 'Bill does Will' vids. All the best, Eric.
bobdot2000, hi Richard, aw, thanks, so kind. I had begun to think that it was a little sef-indulgent an old geezer like me singing songs etc, so had this idea to perhaps do something a bit more worthwhile, however a few people, like yourself, have suggested I should also continue with the music vids, so will do so. Thanks, take care, Eric.
It's good to know that you'll still make your song videos. I just stumble across your videos and like them very much, but this idea of your is really great.
I'm going to blog it and share it in many places to make it more known about what your doing.
I'm just guessing but maybe they mean all the words that you say. Which would be like the CC (Closed Captioning / Subtitles). I just happen to be researching that. It appears that YouTube will translate the text into the viewer's language. Pretty neat, but you can always add that afterwards. I'm going to try to do it for two of my videos. So if you have any questions I might be able to help. That way you wouldn't have to clutter up your video with all the "words" that you speak.
kcjenner1, hi KC, thanks, that's very interesting. I have a sneaking suspicion though that it would be a speech to text software which is readily available. The problem is I doubt if it would be in real-time which is what I have been making enquiries about and, to date, have not found. The words will probably show up in a stream or block as apposed to one after the other, which is what I am trying to do. Be interested to hear more on that if you do use it though. Best, Eric.
My present understanding is that for YouTube one submits a special text file that is manually generated. This is then automatically translated by YouTube (Google) into the views language. I'll let you know more after I've done one or two.
Hi KC, thanks for taking the time to post this. Trouble is for me, even if they did exactly what I wanted, it wouldn't be in the video iteslf and would have YouTube logo somewhere attatched to it. Take care, Eric.
Hi Dooda336, thank you for the compliment. The videos when I do them, are not meant to teach English from scratch, they are meant to help people with their English in hopefully an entertaining way. To learn English from scratch I would advise that people go to an English language teacher. Your English is very good btw. All the best, Eric.
Like you say, this isn't a comprehensive course, but this could be very helpful by making the learning process fun and might be a stepping-stone for some that are intimidated by formal instruction.
kcjenner1, hi KC, thanks for posting. Yes, you've hit the nail on the head. I'm not a teacher and the idea is that hopefully I might be able to help people with their English in an entertaining way. Thanks for putting it so succinctly. Best, Eric.
Bonjour joliroi, thank you so much. J'adore 'Betty', formidable. That really suits you, you do it so well. Unfortunately I don't speak French but I loved it. Also was that your son in the video? He was so cute, yawning, moving about, completely oblivious that Dad was making a video. Wonderful. All the best mon ami, Eric.
Hey Eric, haven't spoken to you in a while mate. About these videos, good idea. Maybe I should direct all the Polish in my area to your videos, quell some of the ignorance they sport which I do so abhore :) good job again.
Hi Spintown7, thanks so much. Yes I will be doing some more music vids but I'll be doing them under the 'English with Eric' umbrella, with the words as I sing them on the left. Thanks for asking, take care, Eric.
Hi rosmarinusofficialis, thank you so much. Your music preferences on your channel page made me smile, he, he, not much left after that is there? lol. Take care, Eric.
Thank you, Eric, for drawing attention to the ambiguity of my music preferences, and I have now updated the information. Perhaps you should also run a series on "How to avoid making ambiguous statements".
harryknarry007, hi Cem, thanks chum. The work went okay, little stressful at times, trouble is there's still so much more to do. Tip of the iceberg etc. Will do some more music vids but will incorporate the written lyrics as well as part of 'English with Eric' vids. Best, Eric.
Welcome back Eric, I'll missed you and your videos, really nice of you to learn other people as I ,good English ,as I need a lot exercise.Really looking forwards to your videos en very pleased that you play your ukulele again
rtbcomp, eh up lad, how's tha' been. Eeee, I was reet pleased with tha' comment. 'appen you were. I've probably got all that wrong, lol, take care, Eric.
Welcome back, my friend. You could make a whole subset for American performers who slaughter the British accent while doing British plays or films! (Really, I love to listen to Yanks trying to do The Dame and Brits attempting American accents. Some do extraordinarily well, but some -- oy vey!)
Hi drosselmeyer49, thanks so much. oh I agree with you, although some American actors are so good at 'doing British', a few spring to mind: Gwyneth Paltrow, Rene Zelweiger (is that how you spell it?) Ben Affleck etc, but then there's Dick Van Dyke....oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...as you say: 'oy very very vey'. Best, Eric.
Like the other commentators I think this is a great idea. You also have a friendly way of putting the message across. But please don't forget the songs.
Great idea, both for people learning the language and those with it as their native language. The literature, songs etc. Will be the icing on the cake! Once again, great idea

I must admit, I am looking forward to your 2nd Video an those which will follow.
There is one things, which I would find very intresting, and maybe you'll take advantage of it in one of your future projects.
It is about the melody of the English language. I mean, how to do it like you did by quoting "The Importance of Being Earnest" for example.
Although, there ist still the possibility to just learn it by listening to your work you maybe got some advices, tips or hints ;)

Thank you, Eric ! Your video will be a real gift for persons like me.
I mean, I learn english, here in France but sometime, it's hard to get the right word or the right prononciation !
So, I wait for your videos my friend.
joliroi 2 years ago
Bonjour joliroi, thank you so much. J'adore 'Betty', formidable. That really suits you, you do it so well. Unfortunately I don't speak French but I loved it. Also was that your son in the video? He was so cute, yawning, moving about, completely oblivious that Dad was making a video. Wonderful. All the best mon ami, Eric.

Hi rosmarinusofficialis, thank you so much. Your music preferences on your channel page made me smile, he, he, not much left after that is there? lol. Take care, Eric.
Ukuleleric 2 years ago
Thank you, Eric, for drawing attention to the ambiguity of my music preferences, and I have now updated the information. Perhaps you should also run a series on "How to avoid making ambiguous statements".

Welcome back, my friend. You could make a whole subset for American performers who slaughter the British accent while doing British plays or films! (Really, I love to listen to Yanks trying to do The Dame and Brits attempting American accents. Some do extraordinarily well, but some -- oy vey!)
drosselmeyer49 2 years ago
Hi drosselmeyer49, thanks so much. oh I agree with you, although some American actors are so good at 'doing British', a few spring to mind: Gwyneth Paltrow, Rene Zelweiger (is that how you spell it?) Ben Affleck etc, but then there's Dick Van Dyke....oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...as you say: 'oy very very vey'. Best, Eric.
