NS-2Js are a HIGHLY overlooked version of the classic Spector. People either think of EMG P/J setups on the 4-strings or Soapbars on the 5 & 6s, but the combo of the different body woods, bolt-on vs neck-thru, and Jazz pickups make for an even *punchier* Spector-meets-Jazz Bass tone. My "Main Basses" are the Euro-made ReBop Bolt-On model... not for money reasons, but because I prefer the above (Alder backs & Maple/Zebrawood tops, bolt-on necks, my custom electronics) vs the N/T Spectors.
Ned Steinberger designed the NS shape for Spector in the late 70's and Warwick was licensed to use the design for their Streamers when they first started out. It was originally called 'Streamer licensed by Spector' but it has since changed so much that they no longer need the license to build it.
Depends on your likings. Some songs almost require to be played with a pick, for example My Friend of Misery by Metallica. It sounds so much better with a pick than without.
Where do I sell a kidney? ;-) I'd a *BIG* fan of non-traditional Spectors (bolt-ons, Jazz pups), am in the middle of outfitting my Euro-built bolt-on ReBop series 4, 5 & 5 fretless with Aguilar-OBP3 preamps and Nordstrand Big Single pickups to get that amazing "Spector meets Jazz Bass" tone that's apparent when John starts playing fingerstyle near the end of the video.
The original "Non-DLX" versions (All Alder body/No Maple top/No Crown Inlays) of the ReBop did indeed some with OBP-1s until Spector came up with their own "TonePump" which is *VERY* closely based on the Aguilar: 2-band, Boost only. I've installed OBP-3s in my ReBops as I'm far too fond of boost/cut preamps as well as the ability to control the Mids, which I find especially useful in my fretless ReBop (I've found mids the key for fretless bass to cut through a live mix).
Used to have the Kramer version. The sound is exactly the same. Very, very sweet bass!

@ethermouse
They didn't rip off the Design, they paid for it (Licensed from Spector in fact).

Warwicks and Spectors are pretty much the best. Of course they are similiar, lol. Gotta love 'em right?

@dearest009 Well maybe the other way around. The NS body shape was out before the streamer shape.

And don't bash me, I'm not a Metallica fanboy.

@FrttMs you can also use double thumb slap to sound like a pick:P

IMO they are the best band.

@scarred2112 I thought the rebops came with OBP1 pre amp. Because doesn't a OBP3 have boost and cut. Where as rebops only have boost?
