do you practice bailing? seems like you knew what to do there. i've thought about practicing bailing from the hole by rolling back. does it hurt the knees or ankles to do it this way?
@diwr : ahah no, but I have done it before! Mostly bailing lost snatches behind. Also, I think dropping a full snatch on my back and having it roll down got me confident in doing this!
I love that he tried it, didn't make it, and kept in on camera. It takes balls to show when you almost got there, but not quite. You'll totally get it man :)
DAMN! Close. I know that feeling. You think you got it and then there comes a point where your brain says, "Oh s@#t!" Not today. But that's what failures area all about. Just one step closer to success.
I suppose if they have long legs and long feet there is an increased risk. Good point. Perhaps it should be noted that the lifter has to dump the bar to the rear as well.
I've competed in powerlifting for years and just started doing olympic squats. I find olymipic squats MUCH harder. Powerlifting squats seem much easier - belt, big breath, low bar and feels much more stable, even with bigger weights.
Might just be what we're used to seems easier to us.
@yamanmustafa cant knock that honesty, yeah full squats are much harder than half squats. biomechanical fact! keep at that mate and youll be much stronger than were in PL
I've officially retired. I reckon you can get a little bounce out of the bottom with oly squats, plus more stretch reflex, but they definitely hurt more...
@yamanmustafa yeah little bounce but there is still a long way to go before you hit parallel. they are just a different beast though, the muscle activation you get from full squats is off the scale compared to half squats. you cant 'hide' during a full squat, half squats you can belt up, wrap up, suit up, stick you shoulders forward etc
haha I can see how that looks confusing! On the 185kg vid, there are small metal plates. You can kinda see some and they can be heard with the volume up.
I've always just lent backwards and fallen over as the bar comes of my back, never thought of doing it this way. I suppose its safe as long as the weight comes off before you land on your knees.
Yeh you do squat very upright, I tend to squat with the bar further down my back than you, typically in a shelf created by my lower delts and traps. With my long femurs squatting isnt exactly the best exercise for me so this position is my optimum. Again though I would still like to see it done in a rack, I wouldnt want to count on dumping as my primary means of escaping from a squat. Looks as though you are very close to getting that weight though.
Hey man, I was wondering how the vert is? I forgot your t-nation screenname, but I know you were also training for a bigger vertica jump. Nice vid, you'll get it next time!
ahah funny you remember that. I have stopped training specifically for a bigger vert. I don't do any jumping, etc... I am focused on oly weightlifting, although I am sure it only helps the vert. But I would have to start practicing jumping again to get the best effect. BTW screen name at t-nation is krollmonster.
Actually, I don't think that it was a matter of not thinking I would make it. Looking it over I see that I was lowering too slowly. The 408 lbs was done quite a bit faster. I actually re-racked it for a second crack at it.
change the video to 'how to bail a squat'
and you change your status from fail to win

if your a lifter then u know how to bail ofcourse , but that wasnt a very good bail ,
how did you drop a snatch on your back ? pls im interested to know this , how heavy was it and what bart of the back did it hit first ?
ahmednabil 4 months ago
@ahmednabil: It was a 100kg snatch, but it didn't fall on my back, it kind of bumped it on the way down against the lower thoracic section.

@blinkvirus: haha thank you for your comment. OLers always squat this low, it carries over to the oly lifts better.

@blinkvirus hips lower than your knees. anything else isn't a squat

@blinkvirus
That is the proper way to do it.

I don't know if you can do that with powerlift squats, but escaping oly squats its not that hard really.

True, it is a lot easier than a powerlifting squat.

If you fail a PL squat most of the time the bar is going over your head you won't be able to do this cute shit you see here
OGROKTEHUBER 2 years ago
Yeah, and you will have a half dozen helpers around you because it is so hardcore. hahah
Nothing cute about it.
I just posted it along with others from the same session.

yeah, but he's an oly lifter though. This is an oly squat. What you're describing is a lowbar "powerlifting" squat.

LOLLLL fuckkk that shit was close... tight work though
dirtyluisone 3 years ago
Try it in a power racc. I think you'd be able to lift it cuz you don't have to worry about the weight falling on you.
gangstahblu 3 years ago
Thanks, I don't think it limits me. Actually, I would rather not dump it, so that drives me to lift...but sometimes the rhythm isn't there!

My knees do come forward, but really what is happening is that I am letting the bar drop off my back.

Is that how you properly dump a Squat weight? I have always been curious but have never trained OLY style...
BreadAndGatorade 4 years ago
Yes, since we squat upright, it is easy to let it roll off the back.
