I love this scene so much. Honestly, I never really thought about this scene as Batman being a killer. I just wanted to see him kick ass. Plus, Tim Burton says on the commtary of this film that he didn't think that this was going out of line. He thought of it more like a looney tunes type gag. Plus, Batman did kill people in the early comics which the first two Batman films are based around. But no matter what, I will always love the Burton Batmans till I die!!!!
Funny how some people just can't like both Tim Burton's AND Nolan's movies. Seriousely, don't you see that they both have thier own unique stuff that make both of those film series badass? Sheesh stop fighting over some god damm movies. Not even Batman aprove this!
Christian Bale is a a much better Batman than Michael Keaton. try this type in on youtube:"Keaton VS Bale Keaton Is The Best And Bale's A Retard 2012 edition" now that is funny!
@TheDrunkenHer0, Chris Nolan is a class act with exceptional talents. I liked the first Batman movie from Tim Burton, however I'll take Nolan's vision of The Dark Knight any day over Burtons. Nolan's Gotham city is realistic and honest feeling, Burton's is just way too cartoonish and unrealistic to me. To each his own I guess.
@charger19691 How realistic can a world be where a man dresses up as a giant bat and fights crime? I love Nolan's films, but Batman need not be grounded in total realism.
Frankly, Batman Returns ranks for me as THE worst Batman movie ever made. It was just the worst of both worlds. It doesn't have the camp of the first three movies, and it's too nonsensical to play to a darker tone like Nolan's movies. Catwoman looks like an S&M bitch who made her dress from leather rags, and Penguin doesn't even KNOW what he is, he just wants to be evil somehow. It's almost pitiful watching him, from start to finish, just flounder over the stage without direction.

Thats what i like to see, Batman straight up KILLING somebody. Batman originally was an Anti-Hero. He does things for the Good of Gotham by any means...Im sure Ras-al Gul would have liked this scene
@NYItaliano89 Yeah, and that's what seperates Batman from Ra's. And yeah, he use to kill, but he hasn't since the early 40's and has not willingly killed since. He is NOT an executioner.
This has probably been mentioned before, but the early Bob Kane comics had Batman killing people and using firearms, two things that Bat-fans constantly nitpick as being untrue to the character. Purchase the Batman Chronicles Vol. 1 for proof. It's pretty easy to find in stores.
@MrLoganTH Yes, but if you consider that Batman hasn't killed since the early 40's, it's considered archaeic canon that's interesting to know but doesn't hold water. Should we consider Superman to be a Jew because his origins have him as the Jewish savior in WWII?

@MrLoganTH But here's the thing, Bob Kane starting writing out the lethality of Batman only a few years after his creation. For over 50 years, Batman has not been a murderer, and that's been a fundamental attribute to the character. His dark days (no pun intended) are so insignificant, it's as if they never happened, like saying Superman is the Jewish Messiah and the Kryptonian birth isn't his "true" origin.
Christian Bale would have grabbed the bomb, threw it away. and then he would get his ass kicked by that fat guy. but lucky Gordon will come and save his retarded ass when he is down.
@SuperMicklovin Please, THIS Batman actually does away with villians that will never harm the city again; smart. Bale's keeps up the beat em up, throw em in jail, and they'll learn act; stupid and never works. This stupid code Batman keeps is what lead Gotham to how it now looks in Rises and it will lead to his death.
@TheInstantClassic1 You don't know what you're talking about. Batman knows that if he crosses that line, he'll never go back; there will be nothing seperating him from the thug that murdered his parents. Remember, Batman wars on crime, not criminals. And TDKR is 8 years later after a long time of peace.
@TheInstantClassic1 not a bad arguement but that code is true to the comics. although i understand the code in the comics better since its an excuse to keep the villains coming back. but then again i like the code in the new movies because it leads to interesting scenes, such as the interrogation with the joker, batman saving the city from raz al ghul, etc. i just came here to tell everybody that anne hathaway is going to be a terrible fucking catwoman though.
@LiIGrim dent wasnt in begins he was in dark knight and he didnt really "kill" him, it was a total accident obviously. also he didnt kill rhas, he just didnt save him. and if batman ever killed, it was very VERY early on because he hasnt killed since 1940 and i doubt tim burtons vision is based on that. and hye i liked both visions but just prefer nolans by far. but burtons look of gotham was just fuckin perfect, and michelle as catwoman is awesome.
@LiIGrim no you didnt lol. he didnt kill rhas and he killed dent BY ACCIDENT. which is one of the reasons he took all blame for the murders. its not like burtons movies where he kills everybody no questions asked. oh well im done with this i just ordered pizza
@MrBurgundy76 Yes I did. He killed rhas by letting him die. He could've saved him but didn't. He tackled Dent into a hole that isn't something wise for someone wanting to not murder people. Sorry but Nolan makes batman a killer too. He could've simply "not saved the joker" after he fell off the building. Nolan only kept him alive casue he planned to bring him back but Heath died.
@TheInstantClassic1 thats the whole idea of batman:even if his full of anger and violent he will never kill and my opinion is that he doesn't kill because he knows how it is to suffer when someone close died
@TheInstantClassic1 You, my friend, clearly don't understand anything about Batman. His strict code of of justice is what defines him, and his symbol is about inspiring the people to do good, killing won't solve everything. Besides before Batman Returns, he indirectly killed the Joker, and does that do away with villains? Apparently not...
@orcdta are you stupid? he got rid of the Joker, the biggest villian ever. If he didn't kill him he would escape from jail like always and continues killing. killing him could save many lives.
@Mercenary78 and that completely betrays Batman's principle of never taking a life, for he knows once he goes down that path, he won't stop killing. And he doesn't like putting himself above the law by judging the fate of others, even criminals like Joker. It seems that's what Tim Burton has failed to convey - that Batman is merely standing beside the law, NOT taking over it by killing people.
@orcdta Don't talk nonsence, Burton worked with Bob Kane who helped creating Batman. They know more about batman than anybody else. Nolan made Batman a wuss.
@Mercenary78 Real nonsense is Batman freely killing people, be it petty thugs or super-villains. That completely goes against the character even by comic books' standard.
@Mercenary78 and you're entitled to your own as well. But killing people is never Batman's style at all. That's why Batman 1989 was terrible. At the end he succumbed to his personal vengeance.
I never liked Nolan's batman. Its like what Joel shumacker did with the last batman movies, but decided to go the opposite direction. If shoumacker made it campy, then Nolan made it slow, drab and boring. There hasn't been a director that can meet in the middle. The dark knights success was thanks to Heath ledger, not Nolan. Nolan can suck a big fat dick for all i care, his success is thanks to THAT joker performance.
@WallyWadeMovies The success of TDK is not entirely due to Ledger's performance. Most of the success can be due to Nolan already proving himself with Begins. Just because you didn't like Nolan's Batman movies doesn't mean they're just factually slow drab and boring. They just didn't gel with you like they did with a lot of other fans.
Personally I loved Begins and found it to be a perfect origin story for Batman which stood brilliantly between movie and comic book. TDK.. not a patch on BB imo.
@TheSteelStallion Batman begins had mixed reviews, and i was in the movie theater watching that movie, it was scarce with people and i even had to wake up my room mate just so he can see the cops chasing batman in his batmobile. Now, i went to see Begins because i had liked Nolan's previous movies. Memento, insomnia and even the prestige were superior to these batman movies he had been making. Nolan just doesnt meet that balance that is needed in a batman movie
@WallyWadeMovies Maybe in your opinion he does but in a lot of people's shared opinion he's done a terrific job. Can't satisfy everyone sadly, that's just impossible.
@WallyWadeMovies "The film received largely positive reviews and strong praise from critics." That's the 1st sentence in"Reception" in the BB Wikipedia article. It has a 85% Rotten Tomatoes rating: 60% is "Fresh" with mostly positive reviews, also its "Top Critics" score.
I'm sorry if I come off as a jerk, that's not my intention. But please don't spout facts if you don't KNOW them. Like SteelStallion said, it's your opinion. My brother felt it boring, but I really enjoyed it.
The biggest mistake in this franchise was not continuing the third and fourth movie with Keaton as Batman . Just having Keaton in Forever would have made it better and had Keaton been in Batman and Robin and that movie had a better story, Keaton against Arnold would have been a blockbuster.
Thanks Hollywood, Warner Brother, and Joel Schumacher for screwing up what could have been an epic 4th movie
@MetroidODST The "Batman doesn't kill" thing basically started because in the comics he couldn't just kill every bad guy he came across. If he did that, he'd have no major villains left after 9 or 10 stories. In the movies however, they only needed the villains for 1 story, so Batman could kill them off at the end. The 'I don't kill' code worked with the character because of his origins, but basically the original writers put it in in the early 40's so Batman wouldn't run out of villains.
He didn't need to actually kill them, think of stuff like how Green Goblin dies in Spider-man, or Two Face in Forever. Hell Penguin seemed to be an accident, and Joker was close to an accident.
@BodeBro41 As of current comics and the Nolan films,Batman still doesn't kill which is ideal I think. That's the one thing he won't do. But,Batman didn't kill the guy in this clip. The dynamite killed him. It's not as if Batman strangled him or anything.
@muclesmarinara Right, just like if Batman shot someone, it wouldn't be him that killed them, it would be the bullet... Don't forget that it was Batman that planted the dynamite on him in the first place.
Teehee, whatever you think of this Batman (I personally prefer him over Bale), you gotta agree that within several years with him Gotham would actually improve, since the criminals would be too frightened of dead to keep popping out of Arkham on a whim.
It has to be called an epic scream now at 0:09 - it's been used in so many films now because no one can let rip a great scream, so they use one from Skywalker Sound in 1977 everywhere
i know alot of people say that batman is not supposed to kill but ya knwo what this is my fav version of batman ! with conroy being second why ? cuz he has the ballz to kill ! micheal keaton and tim burton FTW !
Yeah, but he also carried a gun. This isn't that incarnation. And even then, he only killed when he had to. This Batman actually looks at the bomb, thinks "I could use this to murder someone" and then does so with a SMILE ON HIS FACE.
@Apollomasque When I see preview footage of TDKR showing Batman giving chase to badguys in a military jetcopter hybrid whilst also shooting at them with live missiles.. it makes me wonder just how flexible his zero fatality mandate is.
@LightStijn Yeah, fuck almost 70 years of character, who needs it. Besides, if "don't kill anyone" doesn't make sense, why doesn't Batman just buy firearms instead of gadgets? Because firearms "...Are the weapon of the enemy... We do not need it. WE WILL NOT USE IT. Our weapons are quiet, precise, in time I will teach them to you. Tonight, you will use your fists, and your brains" -The Dark Knight
Tim Burton's Batman was all about killin' dudes. The Joker, Joker's bodyguard in the cathedral, the Penguin, that one guy who got set on fire by the Batmobile, that guy with the TNT, everybody in the Axis chemical plant.... You mess with Keaton in a Batman costume, it'll be your last goddamn fight.
This scene is awesome and the soundtrack also. Perhaps, someone could tell the name of the track, I've been looking for it since a long time but I never find this sequence in particularly
all the little bitches whining about batman not killing can fuck off. Burton's Batman was the best representation, Nolan was pretty good but he tried to make it way too fucking realistic.
@JediMasterLego self defense? first off the thug didn't attack him, and second, his mission was to get rid of the bomb, not to kill a fucking thug with it, and last, the real batman would have just thrown the bomb into the hole, and escape quick enough using his grapple gun to deal with more important stuff, instead of messing with the thug, get your facts straight retard
@TheNewRiflemanBob and by the way, YOU tell me how you're going to make a muscular man like the tatooed strongman or Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was in his bodybuilding-prime cringe, cry, hurt, or basically, beat the shit out of him, when you're just a regular Joe in a armored batsuit?
@TheNewRiflemanBob The point is, it doesn't show it. And that's probably a good thing if you're talking about, let's say, letting a child watch this film.
@PonyboyInNewZealand Me and a lot of other people are smart enough to make the assumption that the thug died. Unfortunately, you are not that intelligent.
@TheNewRiflemanBob I never said that thug didn't die. My original comment was pointing out that Burton doesn't SHOW the guy die... and really it's quite a clever way to have filmed the scene. Unfortunately, you are not intelligent enough to have picked up on that, asshole.
That was for only a year before they gave him the no kill rule. Not to say that I go postal when Batman kills people, but I think it is a viable criticism if someone wishes to apply it.

The biggest mistake in this franchise was not continuing the third and fourth movie with Keaton as Batman . Just having Keaton in Forever would have made it better and had Keaton been in Batman and Robin and that movie had a better story, Keaton against Arnold would have been a blockbuster.
Thanks Hollywood, Warner Brother, and Joel Schumacher for screwing up what could have been an epic 4th movie

i like the guys "oh shit" face after he sees the dynamite
prime513 2 months ago
thats the ONE thing i don't like about burtons batfilms, wat happened to batman doesnt kill?
MetroidODST 2 months ago
@MetroidODST The "Batman doesn't kill" thing basically started because in the comics he couldn't just kill every bad guy he came across. If he did that, he'd have no major villains left after 9 or 10 stories. In the movies however, they only needed the villains for 1 story, so Batman could kill them off at the end. The 'I don't kill' code worked with the character because of his origins, but basically the original writers put it in in the early 40's so Batman wouldn't run out of villains.
BodeBro41 2 months ago
@BodeBro41
He didn't need to actually kill them, think of stuff like how Green Goblin dies in Spider-man, or Two Face in Forever. Hell Penguin seemed to be an accident, and Joker was close to an accident.
NukemToTheGrave 2 months ago
@BodeBro41 As of current comics and the Nolan films,Batman still doesn't kill which is ideal I think. That's the one thing he won't do. But,Batman didn't kill the guy in this clip. The dynamite killed him. It's not as if Batman strangled him or anything.
muclesmarinara 2 months ago
@muclesmarinara Right, just like if Batman shot someone, it wouldn't be him that killed them, it would be the bullet... Don't forget that it was Batman that planted the dynamite on him in the first place.
craig6944 2 months ago
@craig6944 I knew you would say that. You're a smart motherfucker!

KATCHYBOSS211187 3 months ago
@KATCHYBOSS211187
Yeah, but he also carried a gun. This isn't that incarnation. And even then, he only killed when he had to. This Batman actually looks at the bomb, thinks "I could use this to murder someone" and then does so with a SMILE ON HIS FACE.
Apollomasque 3 months ago
@Apollomasque ilove that he killed

He kills someone! He just straight up MURDERS a fat clown!
I'm sorry, but this is terrible. The troll face, the planning, everything.
This is a batman that finds a bomb and instead of diffusing it, just picks it up and walks around until he finds someone to murder with it.

LightStijn 3 months ago

This goes against who Batman is. In this scene he killed someone. Batman does not kill.

@TheNewRiflemanBob Batman does not kill IN COLD BLOOD. He kills when he has to; he kills IN SELF-DEFENSE.

PonyboyInNewZealand 4 months ago
@JediMasterLego self defense? first off the thug didn't attack him, and second, his mission was to get rid of the bomb, not to kill a fucking thug with it, and last, the real batman would have just thrown the bomb into the hole, and escape quick enough using his grapple gun to deal with more important stuff, instead of messing with the thug, get your facts straight retard
JigsawVIII 4 months ago
@TheNewRiflemanBob and by the way, YOU tell me how you're going to make a muscular man like the tatooed strongman or Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was in his bodybuilding-prime cringe, cry, hurt, or basically, beat the shit out of him, when you're just a regular Joe in a armored batsuit?

@PonyboyInNewZealand common sense says so.
TheNewRiflemanBob 4 months ago
@TheNewRiflemanBob The point is, it doesn't show it. And that's probably a good thing if you're talking about, let's say, letting a child watch this film.
PonyboyInNewZealand 4 months ago
@PonyboyInNewZealand Me and a lot of other people are smart enough to make the assumption that the thug died. Unfortunately, you are not that intelligent.
TheNewRiflemanBob 4 months ago
@TheNewRiflemanBob I never said that thug didn't die. My original comment was pointing out that Burton doesn't SHOW the guy die... and really it's quite a clever way to have filmed the scene. Unfortunately, you are not intelligent enough to have picked up on that, asshole.
