my doctor I can not trust hes offen says my disease UC is turning in crohn 's he had me on remicade and now wants me on azathioprine and has me on the steroids lage does of 70 mils I have had about enough of this and want out his diagnosed me as UC yet compairs me to Crohn's and will not instruct or explain photos or what food to eat does anyone have any better ways to treat or cure outside the US
i like to know how many of us told we have UC have lyme is there anyone out there like this please advise massvocals@comcast.net how did you find out ?
@massvocals1 Thanks for your interest. If you go to our website, there is information on both Ulcerative Colitis and Lyme Disease that may be helpful.
Crohn's disease is definitely an autoimmune disorder even though it is more likely classified as a gastrointestinal disorder. This was not relatively convincing. I just got my med changed to Azathiprine, so I will be having to monitor my condition carefully. And I agree, six months is puny. Even steroids can have a positive effect in six months, even with the side effects.
@bigkevin85 To be fair, Azathioprine is a pro drug, as opposed to prednisolone being a corticosteroid, so it's hard to really fairly compare how long it takes for them to become "active". It is somewhat annoying that you have to wait so long to see results, although having tried both I've personally found "A" to be easier to manage when it comes to side effects. Steroids of course still dominate for quick relief, although of course we both know they're not exactly the ideal solution.
@pamew True, but the literature I have been reading has me convinced that the biologics are definitely a great option if one can afford it. I recently had to go on prednisone along with azathioprine to manage a flare up. What a pain in the rear end! :p
@bigkevin85 Yeah, I've seen promising results with biologics, the only problem is them being so hit and miss (plus the expense, as you mentioned.) whenever steroid therapy has me down I just remind myself that's still a WAY better option than surgery, though I still hope something will get found in the near future that's a better option, I think an advance in this field is LONG overdue.
@pamew Surgery(resection)saved me from the pain I was still experiecing while on all the heavy drugs for crohns. 3 years of suffering with it.Remicade made me feel worse. Had emergency surgery for a blockage. When they opened my ab cavity up, they found that they misdiagnosed me(happens alot to 'crohnies')The blockage was caused by adhesions caused previous c-sections. My doc was surprised.Wish I had that surgery at the beginning.I would've saved myself from prolonging my agony.I am healthy now.
I have Crohn's Disease and had infliximab, it worked wonders for my Crohn's but drug induced me Lupus.......well they think so. Have this happened to anyone else or does any1 have any info on why this is?
Between 1998-2005 Infliximab was the number one cause of death among any therapeutic drug (so excluding those that were self-overdoses such as oxycodone and morphine).

Crohn's is not autoimmune. These drugs have deadly side effects, which you neglect to give the credence that reality deserves. What is the longest trial using biologics and achieving remission? 6 months is not long.
Yes it is. There's a reason that immunosuppressants work to treat it. There's also a reason why destroying the immune system, effectively allowing it to "reboot" can give people years free of symptoms. BECAUSE IT'S AN AUTOIMMUNE CONDITION, HURRDURR.

@pamew I hear you. I've already had a resection surgery. I'd prefer not to have it done again
