  • 2 people love cgi

  • @MASCORPSE - WELL, IF YOU MEAN WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR MAKEUP, THEN THERE ARE COMPANIES LIKE BEN NYE THAT MAKE THEATER MAKEUP AND STUFF LIKE THAT. BUT IF YOU MEAN OTHER THINGS LIKE THE ROBOTIC THINGS, I THINK THAT'S SOMETHING YOU'LL LEARN WHEN YOU GO TO THAT SCHOOL?

  • CGI is still expensive. There will always be work available for the lower budgeted films and tv/internet series. It would be interesting if Savini's school had a second, computer program (like how culinary schools offer restaurant management programs...) available. Also, I hope the school mascot is Fluffy, our friend from the Crate in Creepshow....

  • there is no art in special effects anymore almost everything is done by computers. but look at the making of Friday the 13th original that shows you how creative they where in those days. poor Savini I don't think he gets to do what he loves as much as he used too. p.s. sorry if there's any bad grammar I'm not very good at writing English.

  • does anyone know how much it costs to get into this school?

  • @JakeandEd30 I am set to attend in October and It is costing me approx 20,000 give or take.

  • my son wants to go but hes only 14 :(

  • fuck cgi

  • what's with this cgi crap? Animatronics were better and should be passed down. Don't film makers see that or are they just to cheap to make REAL looking stuff?

  • I graduated from High School at 15 years old when I was in Puerto Rico. I then went to YSU to study Theater, but I always knew my heart was in Special Effects Make-Up, so after 3 semester in college, I finally decided to move out and persue my career as a Make-Up artist...I am now 17 years old, and on my first semester at Douglas Education Center...The Tom Savini program is awesome, we learn so much in just one day, and best of all you don't have to have expirience in this.! I love it

  • Tom Savini's mustache is so majestic.

  • tuition fee? anyone?

  • @bongtoker420 in the 40k area. im graduating in 3 weeks, its an amazing school

  • @lampshade123321 damn....good job bro. thats no where near my range right now.

im at the bottom right now. lol

  • @bongtoker420 lol i used loans 2-4th semester,

  • @lampshade123321 but idk if i would ever be able to pay that kind of money back....lol

  • @bongtoker420 if u apply wut u learn at the school. u can pay it back in no time

  • P.S. I don't care if Tom Savini is antisocial or w.e. I'm going there for me, not for him. But if I ever get to meet him I sure will thank him for opening this opportunity to ppl like me.

  • I'll be going there on February 2011.! I first visit the school back in January 2009, was planing to move there back then but I was just 15 years old since I went to an advance school, now I went on a second time last month and decide to transfer there , they re-model the place, is like they getting better and better every year.! So I'm ready to go...

And well, you do not need Pre-experience or anything like that, is very easy to get in, as long as you got the money but I think is worth it

  • @WilOZayas93 good luck to you sir, im graduating as ur comming in.

  • tom is one of the largest douche bags on the planet.

  • Im there Feb 2011!

  • @DJTMart Right on prolly see you there then :)

  • @DJTMart good luck, i grad. right befor u come in. its amazing there

  • Anyone else headed there February, 2011?

  • The Dusty Pizza attends this program :) scavenger hunting

  • your work is great!!!

  • the creativity that all the students have are ridiculous. its crazy to go inside the school and see all the things that they learn and how they can turn someones face to look like something completely different!

  • totally awesome! love it here!

  • Comment removed

  • WOW, AMAZING

  • Does anyone know what ever to TERRORMANIA? I Loved that place, it was at Century III Mall a couple years ago, but I haven't heard anything else about it. It's as if it just disappeared. Hope they bring it back in the near future.

  • omg iv'e been contemplating going to this school and program but i'm scared that i wont know what i'm doin. Iv'e never done special effects and i want to learn so freakin bad

  • I Would Love To Do Something Like This as a Job But i Just Can't Draw, Paint Ect For Shit :(

  • what i love is that he was in vietnam

  • has anybody here actually taken the course? If you have, please give me feedback because I am seriously debating going to this school.

  • im sure there are days he can be an ass like the rest of us but...gotta give him props. the guy tries to help out his (and my own) hometown area (pittsburgh area) instead of just being 'Mr. hollywood' ya know. besides his new haunted house was great i heard, it's called 'donora' lmao ok, bad joke. but i heard the century 3 mall terrormania was good. and theres another example, that mall is downtrodden and his haunted project helps it out. other homegrown celebs talk shit, tom keeps it home.

  • now they use special effects with computer

    so unreal and silly

    old work was better

  • @muqteda I'm taking this particular program right now actually. Practical effects are still essential for movies. Though there is a lot of new technology, there will always be a need for "old work". Also, Jerry is a badass XD

  • @RyaVids Agreed CGI is gettting better everyday but there is definentely something to be said for real world special FX. Cant wait to get there and get started :)

  • @muqteda thats what worries me, with films going more & more with computer effects like cgi blood splatters im worried if thiers any jobs left in the practical effects world?

  • I'm hoping to start this program in October, I reeeaaally hope I get in....

  • Tip your hats to Savini...... afterall, its his name on the school. But give allegiance to guys like Jerry Gergely, Sean Ronzio and Will Ritter n Chris Patrickr....... Al Tuskes as well, though hes no longer there.. You want a school you got it. You want to learn how the industry works you got it. But research the names that are going to be teaching you. These guys teaching have Savini BEAT....... Tom is just a name....... Yet the knowledge is first class i believe. All i can say is WANT IT!

  • We just interviewed Tom Savini at the Motor CIty Comicon - thought you may be interested ;-)

  • I'm hoping to get into this school in Feb. :)

  • a+++++++++

  • Savini has earned the right to be a dick, deal with it

  • @misconduckt Interesting, I want to agree with you but, Hell, the guy's been through a war (how many of you can say that?).

But... If your pissed or bored (as he might be), AT LEAST HAVE THE FREAKING RESPECT, to tell the person you are, and try to have a micro-second to acknowledge them as a fan/human!

  • It's strange that many people would say he is not very friendly, because he seems to have a nice personality in person. I met George Clooney one time and he is a wonderful and nice man, very, very friendly.

  • Who's better: Tom Savini or Rick Baker???

  • Even if i like tom savini a lot ( he actually gave me the interest in sfx ) rick baker is a much better make up artist than him.

  • as much as i liked special effects, im not sure theres a market for it anymore. everything is computerized these days. and as anyone back home would agree, tom's haunted house was scarier when it was giant eagle or plain century 3 mall lol

  • I disagree. Nothing can beat a top quality live action effect, just look at the transformation in an american werewolf in london next to an up to date cg afair. More often than not cg has a tendency to be way to clean and polished and as a result stands out as being unrealistic

  • Indeed

  • @copsondonuts there's still a huge market for special fx, plus you can learn beauty makeup witch is very important and make money doing that, you can also work in theme parks, health business, so many options.

  • Has anyone been there, that didn't like it?

  • a++++++++++++++

  • Your interest will be offered to some foreign countries. Thailand. Asia.

  • It cost $36,000. And it's the shit it the most fun I've ever had at school and probably all together my life. I'm learning so much. I came in with no experiance what so ever

  • Your interest will be offered to some foreign countries. Thailand.

  • i been wanting to go to this school for 10 years but no money :(

  • do u know how much it cost?

  • i met him today at a horror movie convention ,not very friendly..

  • @derpdederp101 serious?? hes a dick are what

  • yeah he was a cheap dick he would only give me one autograph for 20 bucks! just for him to write his fucking name

  • Really? Wow.

  • yea dude not a great person to meet imo

  • @derpdederp101 damn thats messed up to hear man!..his work is fucken amazing thou!

  • mutha trucka and the mississippi 7! ruling the scavenger hunt scene since 2009! YEAAAAAAAA!

  • Tom savini is my daddy

  • Oh, he fucked you mom, too?

  • i go to this school and im posting a comment to get a thing for a scavenger hunt~ sincerly pirate house team

  • This school is great. I definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to go into the Special Effects industry.

  • I would love to meet tom savini himself the would be sweeeeeeet!!!!!!!!

  • i know right, but its akward enough not knowing anybody! i was just looking at the applications for housing! i got so excited, but i need to save more money!

  • Tom kind of has an ego..but he is amazing so he has a right to have an ego lol

  • Tom is a GOD to me!

  • DUDE, I'M IN THIS VIDEO! HAHAHA

  • lol kool, where?

  • the blond dread getting vampmakeup. thats me!

  • haha! awesome, so did you go to that school! i bet it was kick ass! i wanna go there next year!!

  • yeah i did, the whole experience was one of the coolest things i ever did. i can tell you anything you wanna know.

  • @kalel5676

What about me?.....i has some questions.

  • @Skeletonwitharaygun

    what questions?

  • @kalel5676 how much per semester and what are your chances of getting in if youre just a high school grad. plz and thank you.

  • @MrsKrueger22 I'm sure it's more now. A lot. Like 10 grand. And yeah, you could get in easy.

  • @kalel5676 have you been able to get decent work involving what you learned there since graduating?

  • I start next year!!! I can't wait!!!=D

  • what to do to get it?

  • wow! i wanna start next year also! is it hard to get in?

  • It's not hard at all. You just need to graduate from high school and show up, that's it. Doing some of your own make-up projects would help a lot though, so you'll be more prepared, but it's not necessary. I'm attending next year, I'm incredibly excited. :D

  • well, i didnt graduate high school, but i got my diploma! actually i got it yesterday! so you applyed on the website? cause i live in florida, so i cant go over there! and do they have scholarships for that specific program, do you apply for it after your application or what! sorry dude, i have a lot of questions!! lol

  • I haven't applied yet. I haven't finished high school yet, unfortunately. They have a $5000 scholarship for new students based on their portfolio, and I'm not sure whether or not you need to apply. Seems somewhat likely. I don't know exactly how good it has to be, my only advice is if you want the scholarship, do your best, and then make it better. :)

I thought that you get a high school diploma, you've graduated from high school. (Even if you're home schooled like me)

I wish i could help more.

  • Also I'm going to see if you can get in with only a GED (If you drop out of high school). I'll let you know what I find. In the meantime, search for Tom Savini interviews on YouTube and Google (Or whatever search engine you use). If you look for videos and texts you'll find a lot more. Good luck, and I hope you can attend. :)

  • whan are you starting?

  • I think October 2010.

  • awesome, thats when i want to start! ill let you know if i apply for october, it would be nice to at least know somebody from youtube there! lolz

  • Yeah, that'll be weird (In a good way though). XD

  • @Nelfidion hey i'm starting in october too!

  • @gothambat26 Sweet. :D

  • My best friend and I have been wanting to go into this field but didn't think we could until we discovered this school. We are both planning on starting next June.

  • koolness! i hope to start next year also! im saving money now! but theres no way! i need a student loan and everything i can get!!

  • Whew, I checked, $36,050.

Damn, but still, for 16 months, and that kind of an education, that's not really unreasonable!

  • does that include housing and materials?

  • its true! i see it as an investment! your can make that money back in less than a year!!

  • i want to go there but im 13

    so long ways to go

  • I'm planning on going there.. Damn, I need to get a job, Sophomore.

  • Every true Horror fan has to love Savini's effects

  • Wow...things were very different when I went there lol

  • tom Savini is a badass

he's right up there with stan winston

everything they make is utterly awesome

  • @obby1mh3r3 yea man stan winston was one of the best too bad he's gone from this world now, but least we still got tom and many other icon's of the practical effects world, doing shit in a computer can be fun if you know what your doing, but boring as hell, making something you can physically touch is much more fun lol

  • Comment removed

  • i read it was like $25,000...but idk...I CAN"T WAIT TILL I GRADUATE SO I CAN GO THERE!!!

  • Not bad

  • Savini is a hometown hero from the pittsburgh area...his work is synonymous with the horror genre...I met him at a college fair back in 1998 in the burgh, wish he'd come back to rip shit up!

  • im going there right know and its alsome i love it

  • Im goin here to work or sumthin and they pay you to do stuff ^.^ cant wait and im not far from monessen at all lol =P I hopefully get to make what i want when im done learning hopefully a raptor bust or sumthin related to avp or jp.

  • I am looking forward to Douglas and Tom Savini's special FX workshop and digital film courses. I have one more year to go at PTI and then I'm furthering my education at Douglas. This would give me a chance to break out of my shell in several aspects and plus I'm a big fan of Tom and Greg. When I went there to tour the school I felt very welcomed. It's no lie.

  • Fantastic! Tom Savini is ever an inspiration for me! Cool video! Ciao!

  • Wow, this is outrageous!!! I would like to know more about this course. This has always been a hobby for me and I'm sort of self-taught but it would be awesome to meet Tom and to see some of his work firsthand...Dr. Maynard...

  • lol, at 00:52, that predator is LIFESIZE, cause I'm 6' 5'' and its still taller than me! But I was in my anatomy class when Tom Savini came in and TOOK it out of the building and into his car. We were sitting there and the Predator's head sloooowly peeked into the class...it was hilarious!

  • Hay I know that Guy via myspace, Zach(??), He was being vamped!

Also I really Do love you guy's for making this profile, It makes me very happy , allmost like I'm there!:)
