how can a band that rocks so hard do something this slow and melodic so well?!?! i bet they could make a justin beiber 'song' sound good...if you could pay 'em enuff to cover one, which i doubt. Judas Priest Rock Forever!!!
With this song they've entered right in among the gods not to mention that they found their place in the history of music right from their debut album. This song will be strong even after billions of years until the end of time. This song is absolutely universal (comes directly from the universe if not the multiverse). As they say in "Dreamer Deceiver" they gripped that the cosmic sound and held on to the note. Rob is clearly not from Earth on this song.
Grande Judas Priest!
Oh man, what a song. I am in my thirties and have been listening to this song since I was teenager. Thanks to my older brother. I was outsider at the boarding school because everyone was listening to Kelly family etc. and I was listening to Judas, AC/DC, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Helloween and many more. But I do not regret every single minute when I was listening.....
This is one of the all time greatest songs ever written. Along with Beyond the Realms of Death. Judas Priest is a phenom of the music world. Their range of style is so vast and is paralleled only by Rob's vocals. The talent pool of Priest is of immeasurable depth. \vv/_
If you ask 100 metal fans ( or even die-hard priest fans) about their favorite Priest song or album you will get different answers from everyone else. This clearly proves that priest never stuck in a shelf where they can produce all similar songs, they always produced different albums without caring about the critics and they were, are and always ahead of their time.
Fuck the critics Hail the artistic vision of Priest. \m/
P.S. -all of their albums are metal yet very unique.
@GladeSwope No not really. Pink Floyd is a progressive Rock Band and Judas Priest ist a true legend of (the New Wave of British) Heavy Metal. This is a song of their first album, released in 1974. Maybe Priest was influenced by Pink Floyd, but I think they were more orientated in the direction of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin (think about Stairway to Heaven if you hear this).
@666Templar666 'run of the mill' always reminded me of 'time' from dark side of the moon- especially since the song expresses regrets of a lifetime of living in conformity. 'what have you achieved... doing as you were told' 'Rock a' Rolla' seems different from the rest of the 'Priest catalog imo.- it was prog rock. also in 1967, Floyd had some of the heaviest music in existence- but nobody knew what to call it. Perhaps it's a moot point, it's all considered just "classic rock" today.
@666Templar666 (continued...) Rock-a-rolla (the whole album) to me sounds like some combination of the Rolling Stones, the Who, Cream, and (heavy) Pink Floyd.- completely different from anything else 'Priest did afterward. I don't really notice the 'Sabbath' influence until "Sad Wings of Destiny."
@GladeSwope I think I could agree with your opinion. But at least this is great music and I think its ok, to call it 'classic rock' today. ;)
JP and PF, both had their influences, we could not totally specify today. But they developed a very own style of music and influenced hundreds and thousands of other bands.
While growing up, we lived in a small town that basically only played country (everywhere). My bro who is 6 yrs older then me pulled me into this music back in 83/84, when i was about 9 or 10. To this day, giving me the gift of metal is still the best present i've ever gotten. Danx much Brother
its true , crazytrain is an ashole among other things . a stupid little fop, who cant satisfy a woman because his dick is very small , infinitesimal if you will. so he has to take out his SHORTcomings on someone who cares for his friends which you couldnt possibly have since you have none because if yoiur that stupid and betray people like that you dont even know what more the people you do know , you insignificant little piece of shit ..
@TheEdhoyt soo, why am i an ashole? oddly enough, i've been satisfying the same woman for 19 years, and getting phone calls from my ex, of 19 years? really don't get it...
makes me break down every time i hear this song. was listening to this when i found out my best friend had died. i just turned it up louder and screamed it

The ending where rob picks back up is the Best Goddamn use of vocal melody I have ever heard. It still sends shivers down my spine after 35 years. Absolutely Fucking beautiful.
The solo break at 3:50 is the type of jam break that literally could have gone anywhere it wanted to. Not easy for most bands who only know the formula...they eventually come back in great Halford fashion...notice the keyboard?
The only way someone could dislike this song was to not have heard it. My personal opinion is that the people who have clicked dislike are the same ones who like the socially acceptable bands of the moment, the same bands that are nowhere 10 years from now. I saw the Priest in '74 for the first time. I was a kid in England on vacation, Newcastle City Hall. I'm from the USA. I'm 50 years old now and still remain friends with Robert. I live in Arizona, not far from him. It just happened that way. I've always been a fan. Nothing more. And I play guitar.
@MetalGods thanks for invitation. I'm sure I'll take that opportunity. btw. Run of the mill for me somehow resembles Child in Time by Deep Purple. it's THAT good =) funny, that picture... even the crappiest weather actually feels bood in combination with Judas Priest. I have one like that outside my window now.
my all time life support is Judas Priest + Fields of the Nephilim + Dead Can Dance + New Model Army.couldn't go through another day without them. now on the away to robhalford(dot).com
This song is so underrated. Such a shame. Its perfect in every way. It gets inside you and makes you feel. It's Beautiful. I don't care what type of music you prefer, if you cant appreciate this song, you don't deserve your ears. Thank you Judas Priest.
There is no scream......EVER...Like the one at the end of this song... I used to practice it over and over forever until I finally got it. There is some incredible feeling when you can let out such a shrill but pure high octave wail like this. Halford is in a league of his own. What's so awesome is we have both him and Bruce, two operatic singers with such different vocal dexterity.
I was watching Judas Priest: Behind The Music on VH1 and they played this song in the background at one point...so I looked up the song by some lyrics. And I love it. I've been a Priest fan for years, but I never really checked out Rocka Rolla.
One of my favorite Priest songs. It´s a MASTERPIECE!!!!!!! The lyrics are so deep and full of feeling and Rob´s voice is indescribable. The best band on the planet! It´s sad that Judas Priest has never gotten the recognition and fame that they deserve. Nearly everyone on the planet has heard of Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden but almost everyone I know (not metal fans) have never even heard of Judas Priest:(
@MetalGodsHaveyou heard Nazareth I recommend the albums Hair of the Dog,No Mean city,Expect No MercyThe two songs off of the debut album witchdoctor woman,Empty arms empty heart.I agree that Priest is fucking underated and overlooked but so isNazareth and they so fucking great.Nazareth is my favorite band o al time but Priest is around my 4th o so.Check out Nazareth I would recommend more but I am appealing metal taste in music these are heavier older albums.PRIEST AND NAZARETHboth fucking rock.

@MetalGods Sorry for the choppiness but it is having to cut out stuff because it won't let you type a lot. But it pisses me off too. The thing that pisses me off the most is how well known metallica is and then there is Nazareth, Priest and other bands like that that have little to no recognition when compared with bands like acdc and metallica and zep.
My favourite Priest track. I agree , Ian Hill's (I believe) bass line manages too both a mellow and grab you by the balls, the guitars are pefect, with the best solo in the world ever (proving that technical ability is only as good as the feeling behind it) Robs Vocals throughout are just bang on, and the drumming just so right. This, in fdact, could be my fave trackk ever .
I am compelled by God to come to this link every so often and write this: Anyone who listens to this song, and concludes that any other metal singer has, has had or will ever have pipes to equal Rob Halford in his prime is nuts.
@MRec1124 All, without a doubt. Although I least like Turbo and British Steel, because IMO they are slightly cheesy (a lot people won't agree with me). But the really best albums are first 5 + Painkiller + Angel of Retribution
Perfect! Eine der besten aufführungen Ich habe gesehen, schwer =)

Just a masterpiece.
Fucking beautiful song.

Makes me kinda bummed that they chose to rein in Ian Hill's playing to simply holding down the bottom to let KK and Glenn run wild.

@wrrrrrrrrrr I know EXACTLY how you feel!
If you feel that strongly about Priest´s music you should come join us at robhalford(dot)com, if you´re not already a member.

"What have you achieved now you`re old.
Can you fullfill ambition, do as you were told.."
And i still can`t believe this is over 30 years ago, almost 40 . This is such a hymne.
It´s full of emotion & pathos. And as everyone agrees, a masterpiece!

@MetalGods I don't agree about Black Sabbath being so known but you're right!

"Now with the aid of your new walking stick
You hobble along through society thick
And look mesmerized by the face of it all
You keep to the gutter in case you fall"
In my personal opinion this song is a lyrical, vocal, and musical Masterpiece. It's almost hard to believe that this came off their first album.

How does such mellow bass line grab your balls and twist them so wonderfully??

This song and all early priest is in its own way is MONUMENTAL to rock music period.
The chord drops and transitions alone will stick to ya soul! It has to mine 30 years now!
KK Downing, Glenn Tipton FUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucking AAAAAAAAAAAA

I am compelled by God to come to this link every so often and write this: Anyone who listens to this song, and concludes that any other metal singer has, has had or will ever have pipes to equal Rob Halford in his prime is nuts.

@MRec1124 All, without a doubt. Although I least like Turbo and British Steel, because IMO they are slightly cheesy (a lot people won't agree with me). But the really best albums are first 5 + Painkiller + Angel of Retribution
