  • man that bull was really motoring down hill.. why was that?

  • To the person narrating this video that called the Tahr a sheep:

The Himalayan Tahr (Hemitragus jemlahicus) (or Himalayan Thar) is a large ungulate related to the wild goat.

  • good....very good hunting

  • how many inchs was it?

  • 13 inches and a great mane!

  • Pretty strange to see a tahr running down hill like that??Almost like the west coast.

  • you're right that its a top cape on that tahr. it's all about hunting at the right time of year to get a tahr with his mane in premium condition. i agree its probably tekapo. i've hunted new zealand twice and its definitely on the eastern side of the Southern Alps.

  • from the look of the lakes its around the lake TEKAPO area. Godley valley maybe. Im not giving it away as i hunt there to .

  • Where exactly are you here???

  • The tahr was shot on the South Island in the New Zealand Alps - about 1/2 hour chopper ride from the highway.

  • How heavy do theses Tahr get Bill?

  • They can run 300 to 350 lbs. - Bill

  • I'm hunting Tahr on the south island in June. What gear, specifically camo, do you recommend bringing along for New Zealand? Thanks

  • It depends on if there's snow. If it's snowy and you're hunting high, I'd choose white. If it's green, go with green or green variations. Remember that tahr look down for their predators; they rarely look up, so if you're above them, you're pretty well home free.

    Good luck - Bill

  • Just got back from New Zealand, harvested a beautiful 12 1/2 bull Tahr and 9 1/2 Chamois buck. Thanks!

  • Congratsulations i hope you liked our accent =] and nice the camo ild prefer would be a cream snow top and bottom and you dont need some high teck stuff you just need good aim and a good gun =]

    im new zealander =] lol

  • G'day - Bring a good set of lungs and legs. Probably more important to make sure your gear is warm than camo'd, the weather in the Alps can change pretty quick. Enjoy your trip.

  • Excellent video!
