I have proof via. recorded data taken by our fisheries management that more fish are harvested yearly by recreational fishermen. One such species, the striped bass, is out harvested by recs vs comm. 3 to 1. In a 5 year period, over 6 million pounds of stripers were harvested by rec, comm. just over 2 million. Rec. discards exceeded commercial harvest. 100% of our harvests are recorded, rec. harvests are not.
Gill nets in the right hands only catch adult fish and allow the juveniles to pass through, i know this because i use one daily. Obviously you have no experience with gillnets, no knowledge whatsoever and you base your assumptions on what you have heard !
Rape the resource ? Biologists here have proof that more fish are landed by rec. fisherman annually , yet the comm. fisherman here are the only ones facing tough restriction. We account for only 50 % of the rape while rod and reelers, the other 50 %. You may catch and release, but is a mortality rate associated with that as well ! If i was raping the sea i would not continue to see a healthy population of fish on my fishing grounds. I help feed the world, what do you do ??????/
ur a complete utter moron. what do u mean did we see any destruction. if u went along that net ud find plenty. u can only catch so much fish on a hook and that net kills both young and adult fish so that equals no fish for anyone, does that penetrate ur thick skull. There is restrictions there already but people who want there to be fish around in the future dont mind them only u greedy comercial cunts want to rape the resource .

Thats why i bring my knife everywhere i go fishing so when i find shite like that i cut their tackle to bits. Id call on any decent angler to start doing the same if they want good fishing for their children,it will make a difference.just make sure u dont get caught when doing it.

As a fisherman - that is annoying - but as a marine biologist - that must be soul destroying.
Drag the things ashore and burn them. The commercials who set them are motivated by greed, and despite the efforts of Don Kelly, Malcolm Gilbert and countless others, I fear they will not change their ways until it is either too late or inshore gill nets are banned.
If I catch you putting your hands on my gillnet we are gonna have a go at it ol chap.
