  • no Parang, no route map, no guide,....its getting dark. your lucky. how do I get to the park where you were?

    ex Para

  • @MyFriendsHotel Unfortunately I didn't record my escapades, thanks for uploading, brought back some brilliant memories!!

  • @MyFriendsHotel I cracked up when I read the description of your video, I did exactly the same thing here!! I spent the day walking through Taman Negara. I felt like I was in a David Attenborough documentary and couldn't stop thinking "Bloody hell, this is a proper rainforest". I stayed out to long though and it started getting dark & I got that feeling in the pit of your stomach when you think you might have messed up. Spent a panicky half hour trying to get out at dusk, but made it unscathed!

  • i once mistook a resting elephant for a big black boulder among bamboo in a forest.took a few minutes before i realised the fellow was a huge elephant.luckily for me wind was blowing in right direction,n i was able to scoot.rubber slippers r more practal to avoid leeches.

  • @vidaripollen - great story and I can almost picture you taking a running jump onto the 'rock' and then screeching to a halt in a rush of adrenaline as the boulder came to life! Thanks for the tip about rubber slippers. Do you know why do they work?

  • @MyFriendsHotel the rubber slippers let you keep a sharp lookout for leeches.apply tobacco water or neem oil on your legs upto knee.wear baggy shorts or loose trousers which u can pull up n check if they r climbing.if u see any leech climbing up,as they will try to avoid the oiled area, jus flick em away withsome twig or something.if u wear shoes they can get in and relaxedly get to work coz u cant remove shoes again n again.also u cant wriggle ur toes n look whats happening there with socks.

  • the only thing that barks loudly in the jungle is a sunbear..

  • @BorneoForestHutan - thanks for the comment and that would be great if it really was a Sunbear...but I think it was more likely to have been a Barking Deer and that I was being a bit pathetic. That said, let's just agree that it was a bear!

  • @MyFriendsHotel agreed :)

  • Thanks for the comment - we're did you get lost?

  • i like it. i've done the same. once i figured out that i'm lost it got pretty scary...

  • @elektrohaendler - thanks for the comment, I'm glad I had my camera on that trip but I wish I'd kept it on walking into the river to show the current but hey. That's the trouble with video, you often miss more than you capture!

  • true :) same with pictures but you made a really nice real life documentary. loved watching it ...

  • You're a brave man!

  • are you kidding me mate??i never tot the ranger or officers in charge there would let you go in the jungle alone without guide??because all i know,in taman negara, you suppose to have permit and a tour guide.?

anyway, lucky for you,you survive and alive.. because i think it's a bit crazy to go in the jungle alone without having any idea where to go?? lmao

  • @afadli86 - I think wander in the jungle without a guide is allowed in certain areas (I was dropped of in a boat by a local so they knew what I was up to) and there are 'paths'...I think I just got unlucky as my 'path' was pretty poor and the map I had was green with a red line to mark the route, so not much use under pressure! It's fair to say that if I do it again I'll take a few more precautions and check for crocodiles if I do have to swim across a river again!

  • @MyFriendsHotel - ouh,so u were with the local?no wonder u can get in the forest easily..do you have their contact? because taman negara is highly protected area nowadays..u cannot get in without a permit u know? haha,if u are going back there again,i really want to join u!

lol, well,i think there's some crocs in sungai pahang (Pahang's river) but we hardly heard that it(s) attack human~

maybe after this u should bring a plastic tape, just to mark the route that u've used.

  • @afadli86 - I wasn't walking with a local; I just got a taxi boat to a drop-off point and they left me there. I wasn't in the heart of the forest otherwise I'm sure they wouldn't have been so relaxed about it...at least I hope not!

  • @MyFriendsHotel you was lucky coz you didnt meet tiger or bear.. lol

  • Ur lucky ur back

  • @dothack2 - I am and I felt alive too! My grandfather fought in the Malay jungle so I was reading about that and getting a feel for what it must have been like. I was only there for a few hours and I didn't have anyone trying to shoot me either but still it was a scary place to be!
