This was also the last cartoon that Michael Maltese was credited with writing for the original WB studio (he had left long before this film was released).
This cartoon used to crack me up when i was a kid! I'd go around saying "Oh, da boy, da DIAMOND!" and drive my parents crazy. I just found it online and it still cracks me up at 32. lol
@Thepylot78 I used to do the same thing! XD only it didn't drive my parents crazy lol. I said it to my aunt once and she was like " Oh boy the diamond? o_O " xD!!!!
"Julie Bennett is the woman". And definitely NOT born as late as 1943 as we know..the voice used is the same as the one used as Busybody hen in "Slick Chick" [not to be mixed up with a certain Art Davis Warners cartoon's title] and the two headed vulture in "Transvylania 6-500"[itself not the forgotten 1980s movie,either.]
I can't think of any subsequent rendition of "Powerhouse" in a Warner cartoon from hereon. Is this really the last ever arrangement of it played at the studio?
"Jet Cage" opens with it. That's also the cartoon that saw the death of Franklyn and had Lava coming in at the next to last scene :rolleyes:[BOY I wish vBulletin and others's smiley like icons were available here.]
@vmpickle123 -- It was used one more time, ironically for the opening credits of "The Jet Cage", the cartoon Milt Franklyn died while scoring. William Lava finished up the music for the second half of the cartoon, and while his scores always seemed to have a cold, mechanical sound, he managed to do it without ever using "Powerhouse".
the mouse on 57th street !!! is this best for my friend steven easton in his other life would be malldune the cop saying his veryert (ho boy the dimamond) because he nutt's just like malldune the police officer??? ha ha steve from your friend william k.roderick 3 !!!
Obviously when the Pink Panther (cartoons) came out - WB copied Hanna Barbera - this toon is a blatant ripoff of the theme of those episodes- too bad WB had to lower the bar and begin to steal structure & content from H.B.
@rentatrip1 , This cartoon was made before DePatie-Freling, not H-B, made the first Pink Panther cartoon. Also, there isn't any PP cartoons even remotely close to this story. In future, When giving an opinion, one should have some idea of what one is talking about.
I noted that even though this had the newer Dom Casual font for the titles, replacinbg the Century Gothic[?] ones used before, Michael Maltese makes apparently his last original era WB cartoon contribution. [His name disappears from "Rabbit's Feat", probaly dfue to his defecting for HB, but that had the 1950s WB credit fonts].
This was, and still is, my FAVORITE WARNER Brothers cartoon growing up! I cops, I love the mouse, and the line "Why do you hate me Muldoon?"

Is this cartoon's title a parody of "Miracle on 34th Street," a movie that had starred a young Natalie Wood?
ClassicTVMan1981X 7 months ago
@ClassicTVMan1981X My guess is it's "The House on 56th Street" starring Kay Francis. It was an old Warner Bros. film.

@vmpickle123 Hmmm... could be!
I doubt Bill Lava ever used it.

@jgbennie It was used in the opening titles to "The Jet Cage."

@John80220
Actually, A Sheep In The Deep (1962) also used it near the beginning, where Ralph's gadgets get him out of bed and on his way.
