Yes, Goliath grouper are very curious and docile around humans. They allow you to get right up to them. Because of that they were nearly wiped out by spearfisherman before being protected a few years ago. They have since rebounded.
It is illegal to spear or fish Goliath grouper in Florida. They have been at that spot for years. Earlier on that trip I had the bow of the boat beached and he came up and fed again. It was only about 3 feet deep. In the video its about 10 feet deep.
