  • such a lovely song, great musical backing and a supreme masterclass of singing by the magical Deniece Williams. Quite simply it is quite impossible for anyone to sing this better than this !! Like all true genius artists, Deniece makes this song look so simple to sing

  • #612

  • This is the type of music we should listen to. I love this sound and this is my favorite second favorite song, my first favorite is Earth & Wind & Fire.... Go denise!

  • This was number 1 in the U.K charts the day i was born and what a good song it is! :)

  • This is the sort of music that should be playing on the radio's instead of the crap they play.As for the x factor stuff it should be burried once and for all. This is real talent and music.

  • ppl wanna talk bout music today but music hasn't died just radio there's plenty of artist who don't get the respect today cause ppl are worried and focus on the ones who suck

  • fabulous> she is indeed a classy little lady >the music today is garbage>>>>>> bring it back >>>take that shit today and flush it>> lady gaga >please!!!> this is a singer with soul babe>

  • Someone bring the 90's back and this kind of soul back..that's my christmas wish..santa i've been GOOD

  • @lexijaymusic4eva

Deniece Williams sung this song in 1977 not the 90s.

Yes wonderful song and Deniece was one of the best ever !!

  • This was the first smoochy dance i had. 36 years ago OMG!!!!!!!!!!!

  • BEAUTIFUL SONG WHEN U HAVE BEEN THROUGH ALL THE THINGS IVE BEEN THROUGH WITH MY HEART ACCUSED OF DOING THINGS I DIDNT DO LIED TO CHEATED ON NEGLECTED IF I EVER GET HURT AGAIN ILL B FREE ILL BE ME I LOVE HER VOICE SHE MEAN IT SANG IT LADY PEACE I GOT TO HAVE THIS

  • Has anybody seen Jill Scott? Tell her I found something for her in Deniece.

  • Straight-up LIVE singing to a live rhythm section, no lip-synching here! No pre-recorded, computerized backing track!

  • @sundiatasoulbefree&laurenrenee0813x Totally Agree!!!!

  • I dont know why but seeing old videos like this seems so surreal. Especially when its such a talented artist performing this is music in its purest form.

  • Live and Raw... No bullshit autotone.... Real soul... miss those days.....

  • The music was free then...

  • What a voice!

  • beautiful voice

  • Fantastic!!!

  • wow.....a singer who can sing live......those were the days

  • 卓越ソウル・ウーマン、デニス・ウィリアムスの映像だネ!~もちろん"FREE"に決まってる!~すでに最高のソウル・クラシックだ!

  • The live version sounds like heaven, from the back ground the god sent voice. This music makes me happy to say i was around back then, in the bellbottoms days!

  • Perfection!

    Peace and love...

  • The proactive POSITIVE role models kids had back in the day! I think all of this "gangsta rap crap" have ruined countless generations of today's youth of every ethnicity. I'm glad to be as old as I am to remember class acts like Deniece Williams and other R & B artists.

  • how can 8 people dislike this

  • FONKY live version , wow. Great post of one of the best songs recorded.

  • And i just got to be me!

  • 大好きな曲‼やっと名前がわかって嬉しい♪(´ε` )

  • another good one!!

  • Love it love it love it !

  • Classic 70's stuff, Deniece Williams epitomises all that was good in popular music in that decade - Love all her songs - In my opinion she is one of the most uniquely talented female vocalists of that era & genre along with Anita Baker, but as someone has mentioned - not a household name.

Thankyou for posting - always great to hear !

  • earth wind and fire on backup. her and philip bailey would have made a great vocal duet

  • @mjjcng8958 They have a song together on her "I'm so Proud" Lp from 1983! Just type in Deniece Williams 'They Say' and that's the song with them together!

  • @mjjcng8958 Deniece Williams and Phillip Bailey did a duet together its called "They Say" its great just look it up on youtube

  • great music

  • Great music, a time when auto tuning didn't exist!

  • This song brings peace and old times to mind. I wish I was born in that time era .life was so peaceful (music wise) and loving.

  • The only female vocalist that made me stop dead in my tracks and say "now that's singing". A true songbird from heaven!

  • I wonder why names like Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, Whitney Houston are always mentioned but you never hear about Denise Williams ,Minnie Ripperton or Chaka Khan. They have georgous voices too.

  • this is natural talent here people....no lip-synching whatsoever!

  • One of the true female R&B pioneers! She didn't have to shake her ass or show half her titties to put on a show. You could close your eyes and FEELher music: the lyrics and the melodies. Niecy just floats above the melodies and massages your heart. Let's hear it for the girl!

  • I am soo grateful to TV ONE for UNSUNG they are showing us the stories behind REAL music, I hope these new artist and radio stations are paying attention because we deserve better quality music!!!

  • As Stevie Wonder put it; Her voice is like heaven here on earth. She has a five octave range that is electrifying. You just don't hear voices like that anymore. Black women artists could "sing" in those days, but these Black women artists today sound like dogs howling compared to the likes of Denise "Niecy" Williams.

  • @tommiexander The problem is how R & B has evolved. Nowadays, its Hip hop and Rap infused, which doesn't lean itself to developing the vocal range and shear talent of the likes of Deniece Williams. When I attend some of the Blacks churches around the country I can hear the talent. However, if these singers tried to launch a career in music, they'd be drowned out by Hip Hop and Rap. It's the sad truth.

  • @cjfl1962

I understand what you're saying. All of those talented artists paved the way for what talent and beautiful Black music is all about. But these new artists has totally changed the dynamics of talent and Black music, which I'm sure is disappointing to the ol' school artists, as well as all of us that grew up in that era. Hip hop/Rap has no place in the history and standards of where real Black music comes from. Soul and R&B has been replaced by looks and bling instead of real talent.

  • @tommiexander hip hop definetly has a place in black histor of music but the commercialism explotation and greed is what has destryoed our music

  • Im 20 years old and i would rather listen to this than today's music. This is pure talent <3

  • This is a super smooth performance.. Incredibly talented.. and strikingly beautiful

as a young woman... One of the very best..

  • Beautiful voice....

  • I love a lot !

  • This my song... I love old skool!

  • I've always heard this song, but never really knew who sang it. Love It! Thanks, UnSung!

  • Very beautiful song! Unsung Brought me here!

  • What 7 idiots disliked this??

  • I dont know why I bother saying this because I know you guys wont believe me but Im related to this woman. Seriously. She is my long lost cousin

  • loooooooooooooooooooooooooove this!!

  • the singers today lack an understanding of music and true art. they are consumed by trying to shouit and do too many runs. they have lossed the whole essense of singing sweetly and effortlessly. When i look at all these talent shows now and listen to the current vocalists, i never get goose bumbs like i used to like in the past, everyone is so loud, raw and abrasive sounding. They need to listen to Deniece williams.

  • sing that shit girl 4 sho!!!!!!!!!

  • i love this song

  • what a beautiful voice she as. and she was singing this live,no lip synking.solid platnium.

  • Beautiful song, beautiful voice, beautiful woman, beautiful person.Remember seeing this when I was 11 or 12 liked it then too.

Completely natural. The opposite of the falseness that surrounds us today.

  • Love this, so laidback... [I can do my Snoop Dogg dance to this lol]

  • Brings back some GREAT memories and the warm and fuzzies!!

  • lovely voice

  • It's beautiful. It's smooth. It's sweet. And it's sad. How does one PROVE a conspiracy. It just cannot be, that the deterioration of music happened BY ACCIDENT.

There was a time when people [I'm talking, in this case, about BLACK FOLKS] used to slow dance, bop, step--and listen to this music. What has happened? What has gone wrong?

Now, we got GANGSTA rap. We've been SOLD our oppression--and we buy it, EAGERLY.

    God help us.

  • @schism4291 Well, gangsta rap is declining

  • @halfmanhalfman Yes. I just discovered Janelle Monae, especially her piece, Tightrope. She's very inspirational, and very positive.

  • @halfmanhalfman and i'm glad, because rap is a dead in street with no lasting legacy only corpses in it's trail.

  • I HAVE GOOSEBUMPS =)

  • By far the most beautiful voice I have ever heard!!!!!!!!! She is unmatched in her talent her voice is insanely good!!!!!

  • CLASSIC!!!! Do your thing D. Williams!!!!!

  • Thank you Denise for this liberating song, FREE. Those words represent every human, animal whatever it is thatT FEEL CAGED UP AND CAN'T LET THEMSELVES GO. If everyone just be themselves and not what everyone else want them to be, then guess what we all can be free. Swjones, greensboro nc

  • oh,i remember slow dancing to this song back in the day as a teen.love this song and only deniece can deliever the goods on this song and no one else.

  • Wow, what a ballad. In fact, the mother of all ballads.... Majestic!!!!

  • I just got out of county jail after 54 days of pure hell suffering & misery. I sung this song just about everyday. It was an inspiration that literally helped me survive and maintain my sanity. PRAY for all those who are innocently incarcerated withing their mind hearts & souls!

  • What a beautiful voice for a beautiful person. I would have fell in love back then.

  • What a gorgeous voice! Sad there's no more singers that are this great!

  • @PlaneAndTVtechfan what you talking about....there's plenty of singers with great voices today...what about Corinne Baily Rae

  • @blackbamabound - that's one.....hard to find many other that have any substance to their voice. I can think of a couple others, but not like the 60's-80's.

  • @PlaneAndTVtechfan That is a stupid comment.

  • @PlaneAndTVtechfan I agree. This is my all time favorite. However, I heard Corinne Bailey Rae do it with Marcus Miller. Very nice too!

  • @PlaneAndTVtechfan

    Whitney used to be great.
