this is my first midi keyboard but i think the pads are really hard! you literally have to pound one with your knuckle to get full velocity. its a real drag when trying to make complex drum patterns
@hitthedeckstudios you know how real pianos keys are harder to press than normal keyboard keys. Semi weighing the keyboard keys gives it some resistance when you press it. Its more of a feel thing when you play. I guess you could say it gives it a piano feel
@KosmikCharlie The pads are actually kinda sucky, they cant handle too much at once so you cant really go to town on them, but there is a way to modify it by opening it and stuffing some tape underneath the pads for better response
I checked this keyboard out at guitar center yesterday. I was surprised how much weight the keys had. Very nice quality. They were more weighted than my upright piano. The akai mpk88 was amazing tho. I really had the real feel of a piano imo. I think ima save up for one.
what krks are those? im thinking of getting some rokit 5s but am worried they area bit small. they look like 5s or even vxt4s? what do you think of them
I have read people talking about problems using transport controls from mpk49 with cubase, I know you use cubase. Do you have any problems with this controller for Cubase. Second how responsive are the pads?
Thanks for the video. I just got my mpk49, and I'm using it with sonar 7 PE. But the only thing is that, I can't get any sound from the mpk49. Can u show me how to properly set it up? Thanks.

Hey I'm considering getting either a MPK49 or Roland Gaia Sh-01. Should I get a dedicated midi controller or synth for producing. Hate the fact that MPK is strictly midi controller. It would also be nice have a synth to create unique sounds and produce with that. And please do not mention the digital vs analog debate for the Sh-01. Anyone have any recommendations on what I should get?
It seems like everyone else on youtube has views for making beats I spend hours making mine and I don't get noticed? Music is my passion, I wish people would give me a chance ya know?
@SzymczykProductions It's not about being noticed, and if it is for you just give up. If you have passion like me, opportunity will always come to you in the long run. Be patient mate!
@SzymczykProductions You have to promote yourself, and society doesn't except amateur work. It's gotta be good and something people will wanna listen to.
Please help, I have a MPK49 and Ableton Live but I can't use my piano keys to produce any sound with this, only the drum pads work... And they aren't that great. Please help!
@MiguelABRodrigues There's about a 1mm gap between the pads and the pad sensors, hence the lousy response. This is a quick fix, though - all you need to do is take the cover off, remove the pads, and add a few layers of duct tape beneath each one to bridge the gap. You can find a few videos on youtube as to how to do this. Can't help you with the key problem - I use an mpk49 with live 8 and it works fine. You probably just don't have it set up the right way.
Whats good man...quick question. Im an inspiring producer and was wonder what kinda akai do u recommend and programs as well. Basically what all do i need to start?
@lilkingruss Just starting I'd say go with an Akai MPK. It has your drum pads, faders and knobs. Get a decent audio interface, either a mixer/interface or something like an mbox, a nice pair of monitor speakers, and a good DAW (software). Some common DAWs are Reason 5, Cubase, FL Studio, Ableton Live, Logic Pro or whatever you choose, nice pair of headphones if you'd like. One more thing...don't forget your creativity. :) Have fun
@lilkingruss If you don't want to go with the Akai MPK controller, try an Akai MPD26 or MPD32 which is the 16 drum pads and faders and knobs without the keyboard. If you'd like a cheap keyboard controller go for an M-audio keyboard midi controller. Some common decent yet cheap monitor speakers are M-audio BX5a or BX8a and KRK Rokit series speakers.
Someone should make a video of the Mpk49 From start to finish how to access the instruments and sound to how to record using reason in all .Had Mpk 49 for about month now still lost .This is not a plug in go kind of Keyboard at all.I am not sure if mines dont work or my lack of knowledge of said machine .
@mrooster09 What the fuck is you problem? How does this guy suck? Because he took the time to make a video for assholes like you to watch? Fuck off, you little rat.
@oooOODJCUBEOOOooo definitely . there are a lot of different controllers out there. just pick one your preference. this one seems to be one of the better quality ones as far a features and construction.
@YoungMalcomX1 Aftertouch is a "Continuos Controller" MIDI message sent from your keyboard controller by pressing down, "afterwards" on your keys, while they're already down. Just "press down" a little harder and you'll here the "Aftertouch" MIDI message control whatever parameter it was "assigned" to. Usually it's the Cutoff FIlter Envelope and the sound will get brighter. Sometimes it's the LFO, giving you vibrato/modulation at your fingertips. Nice for lead instruments. Hope that helped. :)

Protool is really not for making beats....even though you can! I was told that by the Akai folks! You have to find a VST that is compatable with Protools, then use the prest for the vst to have your MPK to work with it.
so i would have to get something that has a preset on the mpk or can i get like komplete or kore or fl studio etc......thanx alot too hommie..keep up the good work

@TheJayCruise The MPK is a midi keyboard which means it does not come with its own sounds. You need a software or plug in to run any sounds. I recommend Reason 4.0 or Abelton 8.
thejaycruise, i think mpk 25,49 and 61 are all midi controllers. there are no preset sounds in it as u have to use a software such as, logic pro, pro tools, reason or ableton live. the mpk61 is just a controller, it controls the sound the u choose in your software. try using ableton or reason for a start. cheers!
@TheJayCruise@TheJayCruise You need cubase, reason or logic. Anything like that will do. And you need some vst's (virtual studio technology) which are your digital synths which run from the software mentioned above. Kontakt komplete 6 would be a good place to start as it has broad range of sounds from rock to house music etc. Also VI.ONE for kontakt has all general sounds like grand piano electric/acoustic/bass guitars and synths. What type of music do you make?
its a midi controller, meaning it doesnt play any sounds it just controls software like softsynths or drums or something like that, i assume its usb plug and play so you should probably get some software on your computer and use the akai mpk to control it
i just checked my reason 4 and it seems they have no presets for the mpk49, but since this baby is General MIDI compliant, you can either programm all the keys yourself or might find a reason controller preset on the akai programming software.
Hello I have been stucked on my firmware upgrade for the Vyzex software that comes with the MPK49, seriously going nuts!!! 'cause once you decide to upgrade your past config gets lost and you basicly end up with an empty MPK49 I'm using vista sp2 32 bits, I have tried every single version and followed the manual as well tried every troubleshoot blog on the web and still nothing my mpk just hungs and waits for ever and never delivers the SYSEX,,,,, can someone help me please????
This video is about a year old. They didn't have the other models during this time. None the less, he probably would have gone with the 61 key version
whoa it's kinda old.. I thought it was like a 2010 product

@daylightbombings
i just checked my reason 4 and it seems they have no presets for the mpk49, but since this baby is General MIDI compliant, you can either programm all the keys yourself or might find a reason controller preset on the akai programming software.

This video is about a year old. They didn't have the other models during this time. None the less, he probably would have gone with the 61 key version
