i used to chop woods all the time in the winter with my dad until i moved to the city it's really great!! much more fun than running or other forms of boring cardio
In all my training, I prefer to go by feel and enjoy the effort rather than rely on a device or "coach" to direct me. I was just doing 3min intervals of max effort with a 2-3min rest in between. I had to stop after this interval because my technique was getting too sloppy from fatigue and I could barely hang on to the handle of the maul.
Whats the hurry. When God made time, he made plenty of it. Slow down; you will get the job done quicker that way. And you will enjoy it more.

Looks like fun. How do you know how hard to push yourself without a heartrate monitor?
