@Shift4chizzle I didn't see that movie. A knife would definitely increase your chances. The thing about chimps is that they're very fast, agile, brutal and can do permanent damage VERY quickly (not to mention ridiculously strong). If they grab you, you're pretty well screwed due to their poweful grip. chimps have thick skin, muscles and bones, especially the neck and jaw area, which is why punches and kicks would be far less effective. Cutting should work. a katana or spear would be best.

@Shift4chizzle depends on how big and strong the chimp is. Chimps usually weight between 90-130 pounds. They can get significantly larger though. The thing is that chimps use their muscles differently, so it's difficult to compare laterally. Overall I'd say the average chimp is similar is about 1.5 times stronger than the average power lifter. The problem that chimps bodies are adapted to moving quickly, whereas power lifters would probably lose to a much weaker/faster human fighter.
@joemanses I'm thinking UFC or MMA fighters might produce a win over a weaker chimp. If a very strong person could land one solid blow the the head the chimp would be out. If that doesn't work just pull out a sword or gun lol

What's more, they have extremely muscular necks and their head is not as prone to jerking as ours. Other weak points on their head are more protected and in slightly different locations, the coarse hair making it harder to hit precise points as well. Plus the chimps maneuverability is a huge factor.

The main problem is that most human fighters are trained to fight humans. I'm sure if someone trained for 5 years to do nothing but fight chimps, they still would be likely to lose, but would at least have something of a chance because they're aware of the chimps weaknesses and things they might be able to exploit.

I'm not going to disagree that the chimpanzee skeletal system is tougher than a human's, but I must say I think a human is more than capable of knocking out a chimpanzee. Have you ever heard of pankration? In this style, a kick called gastrizein can deliver a blow powerful enough to break a baseball bat. A blow with enough force to crack a human's skull should be sufficient enough to at least ko a chimpanzee.
@Cherrypoppins18 and good luck landing that blow directly. What's more, you're more likely to crack a chimps skull before you knock it out. The reasons humans get knocked out easily is due to rattling of their huge brain. Chimps have smaller brains that are encased in much thicker skulls. What's more, their chin isn't prone to whipping or jerking and it doesn's sit atop their body the same way ours does. I'm certain that a perfect hit might KO a chimp, but it's VERY unlikely to happen.
@joemanses Look, I'm not claiming it would be an easy feat, but it is more feasible than we are willing to admit. In times of stress, with adrenaline flow, the human body can lift more than half a ton. Even if I'm right and a well trained human could stand to fight a chimp fairly, in a situation like the video above, even if the guy took out like 3 chimps, because they work in such large packs, they would probably gang up on him. At that point, no amount of skill or strength would save you ;)

The simple fact is that chimps are merely far stronger, more durable, have longer arms, are faster, more flexible, have claws and huge canines (and bite force) and are way more brutal than humans. That's alot of force, I would estimate that could at least ko or stun a chimp, unless you can give me an estimation of a chimp skulls fortitude in measurable increments.

I'm not going to disagree that the chimpanzee skeletal system is tougher than a human's, but I must say I think a human is more than capable of knocking out a chimpanzee. Have you ever heard of pankration? In this style, a kick called gastrizein can deliver a blow powerful enough to break a baseball bat. A blow with enough force to crack a human's skull should be sufficient enough to at least ko a chimpanzee.

The reasons humans get knocked out easily is due to rattling of their huge brain. Chimps have smaller brains that are encased in much thicker skulls. What's more, their chin isn't prone to whipping or jerking and it doesn's sit atop their body the same way ours does. I'm certain that a perfect hit might KO a chimp, but it's VERY unlikely to happen.

@joemanses Look, I'm not claiming it would be an easy feat, but it is more feasible than we are willing to admit. In times of stress, with adrenaline flow, the human body can lift more than half a ton. Even if I'm right and a well trained human could stand to fight a chimp fairly, in a situation like the video above, even if the guy took out like 3 chimps, because they work in such large packs, they would probably gang up on him. At that point, no amount of skill or strength would save you ;)

That's alot of force, I would estimate that could at least ko or stun a chimp, unless you can give me an estimation of a chimp skulls fortitude in measurable increments.

Also, he may well laugh about "lost in translation", but these calls and noises that chimps make have been proven to not be just babbling-talk. The specific noises they make all have meanings, and by doing this in such a way the man could easily have been signalling that he was high ranking in the group or challenging them. Not even close. An angry 135 pound female chimp in a zoo pulled hard enough on a dynamometer to pick like 1200 pounds off the floor once. Male chimps are like 160-170? Thing could probably deadlift nearly a ton if it was really serious about it. Do you even understand how powerful that is? That's your arm being torn off. You couldn't even get that much weight to slide along the floor and it can pick it up.
