What about the zojirushi water boilers? They always bring the water to a boil before letting it cool off to the desired temperature. Should they be used to make tea the "right" way?
@arcticagfive perhaps it refers to the original acidity of the water due to the presence of CO2 as bicarbonate? In the chem labs, we boil water to remove the bicarbonate before using the water...

From what I've learned, while over-boiling the water is bad, the water should hit a full boil for black teas, although I'm not sure about the science behind that. Some teas (including most black teas) can steep 3–5 minutes. Everything else in this video is consistent with how I brew tea... especially the part about not over-steeping green tea. I once left sencha in my pot and forgot about it—maybe about 4 minutes—and it was undrinkable.
woah woah woah, boiling the oxygen out of the water? wtf, i guess in a way its true (in a retarded way). but that oxygen is attached to hydrogen and its sorta still water not oxygen, not to say this method is wrong its just i dont think his proof is right
@lebrontravelled also if anything by boiling the water you are increasing the ratio between impurities and the water that it is disolved in, which is what probably changes the taste, not lack of oxygen thats just stupid haha
@lebrontravelled yeah for each oxygen that gets turned into steam there are 2 hydrogen attached. Heat from a boiler does not have the power to separate the atomic bond of H2O, all the ratios remain the same. these videos can be taken with a grain of salt.
@lebrontravelled He doesn't mean boiling the oxygen atoms out of water molecules...because that's impossible with a stove element, and what you end up with will be hydrogen and oxygen gases not water. What he means is boiling the oxygen gas dissolved in the water, as gases lose their solubility in liquid as the temperature increases (that's why your pop goes flat when its warm).
Heres how people from South Yorkshire make tea, boil the kettle, put a tea bag in the cup, 2 heaped table spoons of sugar, fill the cup to 3/4 off the top, add milk to the brim, stir and take the bag out. Northern English tea, jobs a good'un ;)
@rocketdood116 actually, it does. water has a mineral taste because there is mineral in it. if you truly want water with no taste, then you would have to get it from some company that filters it completely, and that water costs around 11 bucks
I love this video! I drink tea, not coffee, so actually, yeah, it does matter. One observation: 180 F is way too hot of a water temp for the delicate loose leaf green teas. If I used water that hot, I'd get an astringent aftertaste. It's happened before. Yech. Here's a better guide to water temps for loose leaf tea:
I want one of those infusers. I went to Teavana for some tea, and they sold me the most expensive one (9$/oz!). The taste didn't impress me, but I was up all night. Wikipedia says not to churn the tea, because it will get bitter.
If you want a good cup of tea just follow David Wong's advice in this video. After many years a making a good cup of tea I did and I now make a great cup of tea. Thanks.
Fail. CTC pretty much fails right there, let alone brew at 180 for black tea. Pushing the tea down with a french press, though not needed, isn't much pressure for tea, so it's not a big deal. And the generalizations about brewing, ARGHH.
i ALWAYS SAID: if you are going to learn anything in this world, it better be from a gay asian. but seriously, I have been doing it wrong. Thanks! oh and I love gays and asians do't read it the wrong way.
@bmtimv Yeah, 180 is usually for some greens, or Indian white teas. Some blacks are lower than boiling, but black teas are usually boiling. So to each their own, for him to call it wrong...well it isn't!
Very nice video, rly don't understand these critics in some comments. It looks like they were doing it wrong! and now are angry on someone else for realizing them that.
How do you boil the oxygen out of water and still have water. Won't it all turn to steam by that point? Water is composted of two hydrogen and one oxygen molecules.
any black tea left to brew for 45 minutes at an extremely low boil, very VERY bitter, but i like bitter flavors, its delicious. use lots of tea leaves, you want it STRONG AND BITTER.
Nice tips, I hate tea, but still nice. It's just so bland to me, and my friend is obsessed with trying to make me like it. It may be healthy but so is orange juice and it has more flavor :P.
You just need to try some GOOD tea. Trust me, most of it's an acquired taste, but some is incredibly delicious even for beginners. Good rule of thumb: if it smells good to you, it probably tastes good to you. Maybe try scented/herbal tea blends like jasmine green tea.
yo to all you fuckers who thinks he's gay, i have a message for you all.......shut the fuck up and leave this guy alone he came here to tell you the proper way of brewing tea and this is how you thank him? this is just an example of how you people are all inconsiderate doochebags
