  • Dictators will love this video. If people don't complain about anything ever, the dictators will have an easy time to do whatever they want. This is extreme individualism, which assumes individual is solely responsible for any success or failure. If you have ever studied any social science, you know this is wrong. One needs to find a balance between complaining and adapting.

Don't suppress negative feelings, but try to find their true source. Once you understand them, they go away.

  • Thank you very much.

  • Very inspirational.

  • I dont complain, but this sure is fueling my procrastination.

  • Whay should i do if my prof is always 45mins late and takes a break of an hour in the middel of a supposed to be 3hours class.

COMPLAIN or PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE.

  • ive noticed this! Im in highschool and we always complain about my physics teacher. I stopped complaining and just started trying harder and bam! Life got easier. I like this guy lol.

  • GREAT SCOTT!

  • But I love complaining so much.

  • What's Jack Nicholson doing as a math teacher... ;)

  • this is really a nice lesson..dont complain about anythings ever..thx man! i like the word so much!

  • you are my new best friend you deserve an award lol

  • why do i feel like this video was made for me ? lol

  • great videos...

  • Complaints invoke change. If humans did not change then we would be living in the stone age.

Anyway I guess most of the complaints would arise from math being "the boring subject", all other subjects are experimental and can be applied in the classroom whereas math is 100% tedious computation. If anything, mathematics needs to be looked at from a whole new perspective.

  • so true

  • it's... it's... it's my fault. It's my fault. weep

  • You ought to have WAY more subscribers....the numbers are sad.

  • This video is so annoying and long-winded and preachy.

  • @Shukria123 Nobody's forcing you to watch it.

  • @Shukria123 but its so true :)

  • Sir, why do you look like a man who lived his life so well?XD I'm Asian, and you're awesome. Please continue your super awesome work and influence people like us:)

  • No only does he teach math, but he gives inspirational speeches. WOW, you are very gifted, thank you!

  • Why couldn't he be my math professor? T_T

  • i remember 8th grade always complaining about math and hanging out with the wannabe gangsters getting 60's and 50's until i got into highschool and decided to leave the dumb life and start caring about my classes, i started getting 80's and then finally 90's in algebra everything this guy is saying is true

  • Shave ur eyebrows bro

  • Hey I have a great I dea Teach at the College of the Bahamas

  • What they don't tell you about problems is that when you don't complain then you end up having a bigger problem on your hands if you stop doing that. Good news : Your not having that old one that use to bother you as much. *New level , new Devil*

  • To me these study skill videos aren't just about math anymore its pretty much life lessons. Really Appreciate these things it helps make school alot easier.

  • For the rest of 2010 all I did was pretty much complaining about my classes. Only this year, with a year left in high school, did I realise how those complaining had effected my perspective on the subjects, how it demotivated me. Now I stop complaining, and start working, and eventually, day by days, my obscurities evanesces. Straight A's, here I come!

  • While this may be true in some instances, there truly are some teachers that should NOT be teaching.

  • well here's my story. I hat finite differences, Do one on finite differences. Then we moved onto Conics. Now I love maths. A question. U do this it's great very helpful and clear. But may I ask why?

  • Hard to not complain in mathclass, maybe screaming works.

  • 2 people still complain outside class..

  • All of you who are arguing that complaining DOES work are completely missing the point. And, @Seguris, you would need to unseat the reams of scientific research on memory principles to "debate" the truth of this. Do some research. It is a proven fact that one of the ways we can prime our long-term memory to receive information is by actively cultivating an interest in the subject under scrutiny.

What the video inplies is that those who reject course content are not going to learn anything.

  • This idea is very debatable, but I can't be bothered debating.

  • thank you a lot for this tip, i have tried it and it worked with me

    so thanks alot

  • I'd like to study more, but I watch too much porn on my computer

  • @dhide14

    hhahahhahaahah

  • @dhide14 lol, cant do that while taking talk, porn is for noob a2/trig students.

  • So true, but complaining sometimes is needed especially when you completely get the material pass every test with A's and then end the class with a B :'(

  • @naruto2710

I don't know if you're in college, but this is going to be an every semester experience for you. Both universities I've attended offer teacher and course evaluations that are submitted to the department. This is your opportunity to complain for a purpose. Don't give yourself an excuse to fail a class by blaming it on the teacher, the weather, your appetite, etc. The complaining we are all talking about is daily bitching. I don't know how daily bitching helps your chances of success.

  • I can attest to the truth of this. Last year I stopped complaining about classes. I got Dean's List last semester. I approached things the same way this semester. There were two of my professors who were poor teachers, but I listened attentively, asked questions, and visited their offices. I also didn't take part in complaints that other students (who were doing poorly) were making. As it turns out, I received an A in quantum physics and an A in electronic circuits. It really is true.

  • Right-on Sir!...

  • I remember when i was in Algbera II i didn't understand anything because like everyone in my class i used to complain how bad the teacher was, but then one day i just wanted to do enjoy what i was doing and not complain, it helped me see the teacher differently and my grade went from D to an A+. I would get perfect score and him curving the hard tests would get me extra credit, it became really fun.

  • I complianed and the whold class complained most of us failed. this year the teacher is much better as we are retaking the class. Therefore complaining works!!! Otherwise the teacher will not try to improve his teaching.

  • Yes... you are right... one of my teachers always gets on to us about complaining, hes right people, it gets you no where, thank you sir.

  • I really have a hard time with calc. ur videos really help me. thank you. I will try my best.

  • thank you I will try my hardest~!

  • "Successful indeed are the believers. . .Who avoid vain talk" (Quran, 23:3)

  • my priest is touching me but i guess i shouldn't complain... ever... i guess i'll just have to try harder next time....

  • @jf713jf LOL wtf

  • LOL - So true. The problem is that complaining is a slippery slope, once you start complaining a little it builds and builds. I started complaining for the first time in school this semester and seeing this video put me back on track.

Usually when students complain, it's not so much out of disappointment in the teacher, it's the disappointment in themselves, when you realize that, you can take steps to get back on track. Negativity will only drag you down.

  • if the teacher is absolutely shit u must complain

  • @naruto2710 still complaining doesn't make any good. If you can't change the teacher, you should figure out the way to pass your class. If he/she is shit, it doesnt matter. You are not gonna marry them.

  • @ruslangelaev living in the country that i live in, i'm entitled to complain. i have to do several subjects and therefore don't always have the time to 'figure out how to pass'. a teacher is employed to do a job and if its shitty, actually really below standard, i should complain. i'm not gonna marry them but they do, in a small sense, contribute to my grades and accordingly my future. i'm not gonna jeopardise my chances of succeeding simply cuz i didn't complain bout a crap teacher.

  • This information is so true!!

... but man this hamburger I am eating is so disgusting! I hate pickles!

  • @VDiver1910

get real. you really think im complaining right now? im saying that people shouldnt put themselves in a bitching situation by complaining. plus, prove that im wrong. complainers are obviously lazy people, and you tell me how many lazy people out there become successful in life. maybe you are a fking complainer yourself. now get a grip and stop messing with other ppl's subscriptions.

  • @AVPWarlsBack stop complaining man..let it go.

  • SO TRUE.... kid in my calc 1 class that bitched about the teacher, but would never do his hmwk problems. Then before class would always ask me if I could help him... I tried at first, but he was dragging me down, so I told him how it was: he needed to STOP BITCHING AND START WORKING!

  • complainers=losers. They never succeed in life.

  • @AVPWarlsBack

You're complaining about the people who complain. Ence, you're a loser yourself by your own logic.

that, my dear sir, is what i'ts called a FAIL!

  • im doing my commons year for engineering. and god i am SUFFERING

this however, is somewhat inspiring, thanks

  • That is right in 8th grade I had a Language Arts teacher that nobody liked, they all always complained about the class and the teacher. I am pretty sure I was the only one not to complain. I loved that class and it was fun for me. I also got an A+. You just need to stop complaining and it will all get better. Think about this when you get back to school after this vacation.

  • But sometimes you do have a really AWFUL teacher who warrants complaint. But I understand the point.

  • speak the truth

  • very good point

  • lol my name is mike o'connell!

  • You are so right! NExt time I catch myself being a negative soul, I will think about this and STOP IT. Thanks!

  • This was my situation, in my math class everyone complained, i use to complain too. But I stopped. Still my classmates complained. I was the only one with an A+ in my class and everyone else was miserable with their bad marks.

  • @piperchangisanass In my second year in Uni, I started complaining about my statistic class b/c I couldn't understand what the prof was saying, and my mark started dropping from the high 80s to low 60s from that year, then I failed co-op (Internship), then I lost my scholarship, then my marks dropped by the years, and I barely make it to the honor degree, just barely, after many prayers and a major miracle. God took care of my mess, but still I had lost so much. True, don't complain like me!

  • @sai18kit: Con't d and I had a depression in the middle of that. And I applied the same attitude to the girl I liked, I complained about her being snotty, and my whole 1-sided love story became a melodramatic loser story. Guys don't be like me.

  • Yea, I figured that if I complain all I'm going to do is make more allies... Nothing will change

  • I complain about my english teacher to my friends. Boy, she does a lot of things at once. Then again, I stopped for a bit and I felt a little better in the class.

    Despite the fact I have a C.

  • I complained about my last math class. It was difficult to understand my instructor because English was his second language. He was from Vietnam and I know he is great at math, but when you have trouble understanding your instructor, there is a major problem. I dropped out and am re-taking it. I didn't complain though...I should have complained to the head of the math department and maybe something could be done. :(

  • we use to complain because our calc teacher hardly spoke english.

  • I LOVE IT

  • haha I'm an architecture student who complains all the time because I work and study. I'm going to try never complain about class again.............great tip

  • that's a nice idea. i'll try that.

  • Your right, even if you go to a Decile 1-2school full of coconut heads who come from low educated families your shouldn't complain.

  • it was great tip,,

i always complainning about my homework

  • I had a math teacher which was hated by "every" students (Or at least that's what you did have to believe if you know what I mean).

However, it was not hard to see that what students really wanted was only better grades.

Every complains came from people who didn't accept the fact that they were good at differential calculus but not at solving undefined integrals and understanding what a Rieman's sum is useful for.

  • This video expresses an incomplete concept. Negative talk can serve to generate input showing that your understanding of the situation is correct or not. If the situation is deemed acceptable, the complaining must stop. If it's deemed unacceptable, action must be taken to rectify it. Incessant commiseration is fruitless & cowardly. Complaining has a function, perpetual sniveling does not.

  • This is true sir that a negative attitude can be destructive.

But on the other hand it can also be the case that an instructor really isn't all that good at presenting material.

For example I had a professor who had a habit of writing an additional step of mathematics on the board while working through a problem--and then immediately erasing it.

  • nice yellow......

  • You are sooo right... I find that when i start complaining (because every1 else is) i do worse than when i don't complain at all!!!... It's soo strange, but true... LOL

  • Dude i am a crazy metal head. i hate lots of things. i sleep in math. i am an ass that disrespects alot of ppl but this guy is talking some sense.

    thanks man

  • aw i wished i watched this early.

    Thanks So much :)

  • wow i do this it... too well when im in class

  • rhigt now im going throug some thing like that inmy life this rally hlep thanks sir

  • you have a lot of nice flower paintings.

  • I complain about every class but that's because it's fun to complain :D

  • I love this advise. I often find myself being the only one NOT complaining about the teacher being a "bad" teacher.

  • wish this message could be communicated to our great nation as a whole.

  • oh wow thats helpful. im definitely going to try this

  • You bring up a very good point. In order to be an effective teacher you also have to know the material beyond a shadow of doubt. In addition you also have to have good diagnostic skills.

  • wow... this guy is amazing.

  • what you all say he is good?

    hell no!!

    he is awesome!!!

  • Oh my this is true because when you complain you have a negative disposition with the subject you have to learn. I remember complaining in Calculus when I didn't get it something. It caused me to have lack of motivation to try to understand it. After I stopped worrying about it and tried to understand it without being upset I soon got it and Calc became easy.

  • im going through the same thing! hating on calculus because its "hard" so i dont even try.

  • @MahBadd thatnks for reiterating the whole story

  • law of attraction! :]

  • I spent more time in math complaining to the guy next to me about the teacher than I did thinking about the lessens themselves. I failed.

I never complain in Biology even though everyone else spends all their time complaining, even in other classes; I'm the best in biology.

That difficult teacher sounds very much like mine, I really shouldn't have done the negative complainy thing.

  • Your a very wise man!

  • Nice one

    =]

    So true

  • I had this one chemistry professor that absolutly nobody liked. she was a chinese professor and she expected a lot from you. She was a very strict grader and would take off a lot of points for tiny mistakes. however, she was very good at breaking down the subject in a very easy method to understand. I liked her alot as a professor because she taught me the value of hard work. I was not like the other students because I did not complain. I ended up with an A in both Chem I and II.

  • Great story. Goes to show you how your mind set on a certain subject can inhibit your thought process.

  • I love him. He's REALLY good <3

  • I absolutely love this guy and I guess he's right! Can't get enough of these great videos.

  • We need more teachers like Mrs Neal!!

  • Dont get Me wrong,I was lucky enough to have had an excellent teacher in grade school, I flunked 7th grade 3 times in a row, then sent to BD class, where I went through 7th and 8th in one year,I was on a one way road to retardation before Her,Mrs Neal She was great, and She does not even know that She more likely saved My life,I could not even tell time, let alone understand the meaning of most common words....

  • Teachers like this are very rare, and that

is very sad because they set forth a great example for the kids who want to excell in life but need a little more guidance, and care than others....wise Man.

  • I agree, and I can't immagine this man being a bad teacher. He can explain even the most basic things in an easy and understandable way, where for other experienced teachers this often becomes a base they expect everyone to have.

I do agree complaining should always be viewed objectively, as should gossip, but the education system remains human on both sides and teachers can make mistakes too...

  • I dont know if that was an insult,or compliment?but I would say He has a way of explaining the most difficult things with ease...I still dont know half of what He is talking about, but He speaks directly to each of the students, making them want to learn---- not through repetition!!repetition is BS, for non robots--the type A personality.

  • Compliment. Describing two of my teachers will set a good example:

One clearly learned his stuff in the wrong way (to become a teacher, that is). He makes the assumption that all the things he calls basic, we call basic. He is unable to explain these things, because he sees them as plain logic.

Where another one made sure he followed steps, even in the most simple processes. This way, he'd always be able to explain even the most basic things, even in the more complex material.

  • Hear hear! I'm a part-time instructor myself and I had a class once where I was the T.A. and my class spent half an hour complaining openly to me about the professor and why we had to have quizzes every week, etc. They didn't do very well.

  • Sir you are sooo right, but i live in brazil and if one doesnt complain here he must be very thick, i guess its diffrent in the US. man, i wish i lived in the US

as in your story, me and my classmates complain all day in school, and when I get home all i hear is my mother complain about brazil, she doesn't like brazil either. almost all talk done in my family is complaining

I guess i, and my family need to change our attitude just like that student of yours did.

    thanks for this message sir

  • Man i wish you taught me math i wouldnt have to be studying for my exams like this

  • Advice taken.

  • That was very well stated. I can't imagine anyone complaining about having you as an instructor.

  • You are right ! Thank you !

  • thanks a lot

  • logs *cries*

  • thanks!!!!

  • It's funny. I've never really complained about a class ever.

I think I like school because of the challenges that I may be seeing that day, whether academic or anything else.

That's why I'm a programmer and I study Calculus. Learned C when I was 13, learned PHP and integrating it in Flash through XML and with MySQL when I was 14, and now I'm 15 learning Assembly (TASM).

I always love to think, there's always a mystery waiting to be solved, and a wrong waiting to be right.

    That's my philosophy.:)

  • here in Brazil... before i start my computer science graduation course, i had to study so many boring things, that you cant imagine! The problem here is the details. They want you to know details of a worm(like names of each part of it), who killed i dont know, a friggin leader of a unknow city in 1780. whts the priority of a scary reaction between uncommon elements... but anyway, theres some good teachers to break the boredom ^^

  • I think that we can use this lesson not only in a class-scenario, we could apply it to everything else in life.

We should take situations in life as possibilities for learning new things, keep our minds open and always looking for the possitive side, even though it's the further one.

  • Excellent professor! Great advice, it would come in handy!

  • I wish you were my math teacher.

  • I agreeeeee

  • He teaches like my teachers in the university (UFES, Brazil).. I think you should think just wht about he said. Dont complain ^^, ur teachers are as good as him.

  • EXCELLENT QUOTE! I just got out of the navy all i did was complain about taking the sats. Now im not gonna complain and just take it. Thanks for your uplifting quote

  • I can relate to this story XD. I'll try to be the one who doesn't complian from now on and see how that turns out

  • This is a weathered instructor and a really well thought of as well, but with his experiance and the way he is going he still has a really young spirit, congrats and keep it up.

  • I think that goes along with keeping it positive and looking at the bright side. If you're always looking at the negative things in life then life will look pretty bad but if you focus on the good, keep a good attitude and keep a postiive outlook then you'll attract good stuff.

Of course, this happens to me before class and while studying too. Some people just have to complain about others to feel better about themselves. Thanks!

  • i like the yellow shirt.

  • i love your videos and love the eye brows!

  • yeah ur right, thanks

  • yes. its all in the mind. you are a good teacher.
