  • She's being a druggy

  • why doesn't this have more views??

  • I dont want to sound like a dork, but the violin part reminds me of the theme song for castlevania 64 lol

  • Ive lost count of how many times Ive replayed this...

  • Dude, I think this music is really starting to contribute to my melancholy -_- but I love it too much to stop lol.

  • i remember Beirut.... but nevermind,i like it:)

  • i love this song....but what is it about??

  • @gandikie From what I can decipher Its about a young woman who's life is going in a horribly wrong direction and she feels trapped with no way out. She seeks solitude in her private hiding place where she can focus on simpler things and away from the complicated mess her life is in. The prominent winter theme adds to the cold and melancholy nature of the song and perhaps even hints at Seasonal affective disorder.

  • That this is considered beautiful by simply tells me we are starved for talent in modern music

  • @djangst they are very similar in talent+sound to the beatles, not all of their songs were impossible feats.

    humble yourself

  • CAN'T HANDLE HOW BEAUTIFUL THIS SONG IS. i wish i could go to narnia too when i was unhappy? the fuck.

  • If you like midlake/ fleetfoxes/ john grant etc just go on the Bella Union website and wander around listening to basically everything on their lable - it's all ethereal, beautiful, skilled and amazing.... i could go on. Music at it's best!

  • Do I hear an Erhu? <3

  • @DammitEditor

I was wondering that too. My first reflex was to say it was violin but idk now

  • It's So Mesmerizing .

  • have they ever written a more beautiful song, I'd like to know

  • I added that to my collection of beautiful things

  • Not since Tuxedomoon has a violin been used so beautifully in an alternative piece.

  • @PositiveLastAction nice to see Tuxedomoon getting some recognition.

  • @ghostie7790 And no one thumbed up. Why?

  • 太好聽了

  • Great vision by the film maker that directed the video. What a great concept to match the song..

  • does anyone know where i could find more violin like this? or what kind of style it is so i can search it up? its so nice!

  • @musicforvickiix

Can it be a norwegian hardanger violin?

  • I've got to get some of those jars.

  • Brilliant song, reminds me of Fleet Foxes and AlascA

  • In the mood for love, Yumeji's theme

    two great songs

  • 0:44 It looks like a monty python reference.

  • Great song but I refuse to like it, because that would ruin the awesome number of likes it currently has!

  • I want a dark room full of jars of specimens and piles of books.

  • la neta muy chida rolita!!

  • The drum beat is REALLY great!

  • I know this band was criticized for being boring on "pitchfork"... but i find their music to have such beautiful lush melodies.... which Pitchfork never gives any credit for while they busy themself with things much more important. At the end of the day I often revisit this band... just enjoy it for what it is.

  • Great song

  • just like fanfarlo ruined by strings

  • these guys are from denton texas

  • Comment removed

  • 27 people prefer old brides.

  • The singer looks like SeaNanner.

  • Click my name if you want to learn how to play this song on piano! ^ ^ I love this song so much I made a video showing how to play the right hand and left hand for it.

  • This song reminds me of a movie "The Fountain"..

  • i love this genre of music; fleet foxes, animal collective etc. but i really am not a fan of midlake

  • Fantastic albulm, love the way it paints the story .

  • The song and the video makes me feel loving <3

  • Great song!!

If you like this song you may like my songs? Check out my video response! Emily, When I am Free (demo version).

    Cheers,

    Gavin.

  • I get goosebumps from the violin's melody. What a beautiful song

  • This song gives me the chills.

  • i agree on the violin - if you like midlake / fleet foxes et al then check out the animated video for the FOSSIL COLLECTIVE track On and On. it's really very good xx

  • @jonnyvibgyor why do you guys push on and on so much, frank became an orb and without a fight are both better songs

  • comparisons to Fleet Foxes? Really?? These guys cant hold a candle to the foxes...

  • omg i loved this movie. i like how the song completely fits it

  • Today, I heard from this band the very first time and now I'm already a big fan.

  • Just magic.

  • YES! The Violin really does the magic for this song!

  • @Stef1anor definatley!!

  • Well I guess you knew who Tim was... lol sorry

  • Tim (the lead singer) is my cuzz:) I don't get to hang out with him much tho:((

  • Anyone else feel like you're listening to song about the movie "The Fountain"? The violins make it sound just like "Death is the road to awe" by clint mansell, which cycles constantly throughout that movie, and then on top of that you've got these lyrics, "My young bride why are your shoulders like that of a tired old woman". Eeeeh? Eeeeeeeh?

  • the fleet foxes are boring as fuck. this is way better

  • I just discovered the band on youtube and bought their latest CD "the courage of others". Love it. sounds a bit like Q.Age.

  • Midlake captures the lump in your throat feeling you get from a good foreign film. Each new album is just another step closer to their inevitable ascencion into higher beings. How will we be able to hear new material from Midlake, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes, Mark Kozelek, Etc. once they only dwell on a higher plain of existence? What comes after high definition audio?

  • Radiohead and the Fleet foxes made love and Midlake were there offspring

  • The only contemporary band fit to be mentioned in the same breath as Arcade Fire.

Young Bride is one of the most beautiful and original songs written in the last ten years.

  • I love the drum beat!!!!!

  • my friend saw these live and he was so excited I had to check them out! They're amazing! :)

  • Im seeing these guys tonight in London at the Roundhouse...can't wait!!

  • @jessmcelwain i'm jealous

  • @debbieallen2 It was such an amazing concert, they are great live! You should def check them out if you get a chance!! Some people compare them to Fleet Foxes, but these guys blow FF totally out of the water live.

  • How I adore your music -- there IS NO comparison. You are in my earth and blood-filled heart, you are in the vines and tree branches that make up my veins and you are in the flowers, sunshine and starshine that make up my body. With you I am alive.

    Thank you, Midlake.

    x

  • @ladykws

    nice

  • @LvonRotz Thank you.

  • Way too much percussion. The drums and hi-hat tend to overpower the beautiful music. Excellent video.

  • @TIMOTHYSAARINEN no sir, they merely add to the beauty.

  • this song came on pandora immediately after my boyfriend called to break up with me . i didn't cry . this song saved me that day , those tears on my pillow never existed . thank you midlake .

  • how can anybody thumbs down this?

  • @xmanballa5 Why would you question someone's taste of music? Too many people talking thumbs up/down these days :/

  • wow, i thought i was the only one who listened to this band,,,,this is not the kind of video i thought they'd put out.........

  • their metaphors are too esoteric! i want to understand but it's like poetry that's TOO idiosyncratic.

  • does she end up not getting married in the end? because she gets solitude?

  • LISTIN UP EVERYONE VERY IMPORTANT

The rock nation will be attacking Justin Biebers BABY video

on September 1st onward ... Remember to dislike, put a comment and flag on the baby vid on sep 1.

We need your help to destroy this modern autotune music that

has ruled the world. Copy paste this comment on every good music

video such as: Metallica, Dio, AC/DC, led zep, the doors, the who,Beatles,RollingStones, Iron Maiden, hendrix

    Guns n' Roses, etc.

    Thumbs up

  • @belleisfat , Don't forget Lady GaGa, Kesha, Jonas Brothers, etc

  • in the name of king crimson82 i must say i love so much what this band does, its overwhelming to hear this perfect match of todays people playing yesterdays music.

    perfect band

  • saw them live in melbourne.

    mind blown !

  • Midlake in Sydney went OFFF!!! Loved this atmospheric music. I love the imagery in the lyric and the story. Mesmerising.

  • I think the violin is the best part of this song

  • @Randalljman It's my favorite part. I think it's gorgeous.

  • @Randalljman

    I agree!

  • @Randalljman

I'd actually say the drums are the best part. They give the song kind of an edge. I love it.

  • @Randalljman It is a cello.

  • @Randalljman OOOPS. Meant to say viola, not cello haha

  • @Randalljman According to me drums are the very best part

  • I think it is a viola.

  • @Randalljman

    Heck yeah!

  • brilliant

  • Its been years and still only 360k views? SAD! I've loved this band since I first saw this vid in Montreal ages ago, sad to see they're not getting the recognition. Sorry but they're way better than Fleet Foxes!

  • @BUDGETFREE See, I love fleet foxes, but I can't compare the two. I love them equally. both bands make my heart sing, and I think the fact that they make beautiful music is the most important part.

    Hooray for Midlake!

  • can't stop listening to this song!

  • 23 dislikes = 23 idiots -.-

  • These guys jammed liked the Doors at Pilton last weekend. Too good.

  • Literally just back from a live gig! Truly awsome music.. Millions of times better live!

  • Comment removed

  • some stuff last for a long time, i think this is one of them

  • seeing them live in a couple days:)

  • ...wow! this is inspired .....sort of like an accessible Sigur Ros..... break that ice, bring the fish to the surface and teach them to breathe.....

  • beautiful....brilliant.

  • The tears came at 3:45. This is amazing music.

  • in my opinion this is one of the best bands right now together with MGMT

  • @The60sMusicman other than the fact that MGMT completly sucks

  • @iBlaum well i don't agree because their styles are pretty different, and i like both. besides it's just your opinion.

  • @iBlaum MGMT do not suck fuck head

  • @iBlaum MGMT do not suck fuck head

  • I like this song very much but I can't remember how I got to it!

Maan, this is going to bug me all day!

  • I feel like this girl is stuck in a world she doesn't want to be in, that she's imagining herself being some where else, doing something else. She just wants to escape.

  • glad to see there is a band who cares more about the music they make than their image. every instrument, vocals as well, are equally important in this song. no one overpowering the other. everything in harmony. no front man, just musical perfection. not many bands care more about their songs than themselves. happy to see there are others out there who appreciate them as well.

  • Awesome. Drum pattern in this song is amazing as cool as Jawbox's Chinese Fork Tie

  • That unique sound of the drums, that violin, and no one in here has mentioned ELO.

  • @sastal i mentioned prog in general. is that good enough? do i get a cookie?

  • i see them saturday at Nx35 they were AWESOME

  • excelente

  • Great music! Some of their tracks remind me of early Fairport Convention/ Jethro Tull stuff. Very earthy pagan Britain!

  • Beautiful song and video. I suppose comparisons to Fleet Foxes are inevitable. That's nothing but a good thing.

  • @TIMOTHYSAARINEN or a comparison to Moody Blues...who FF basically ape....not a bad thing either.

  • @fasteddyuk , Yeah, I can hear some older Moody Blues ('68-'72) here. I wouldn't go so far as to say that Fleet Foxes "ape" The Moody Blues, though. Sure, there are some similarities. FF are working on their next album now (6/10/10) and I can hardly wait to hear it.

  • @TIMOTHYSAARINEN : Anyway this song and album are prior to Fleet Foxes existence...so it should be the other way around.

  • @osterley, True, but I didn't mean that Midlake came after Fleet Foxes. I just think they have a somewhat similar sound. I'd like to see Midlake and Fleet Foxes do a tour together.

  • @TIMOTHYSAARINEN there is a similarity in mood, perhaps, but their influences are different. midlake take some cues from classic rock and even prog at times. fleet foxes are more woodsy

  • @TIMOTHYSAARINEN amen to that, buddy

  • @TIMOTHYSAARINEN

This song predates Fleet Foxes. It was Midlake who tipped Bella Union Records onto signing Fleet Foxes.

  • @filiuscarlovia, Yes, I know Midlake came before Fleet Foxes. I'm just saying that they sound somewhat alike. I like Midlake a lot, but they cannot hold a candle to Fleet Foxes.

  • @TIMOTHYSAARINEN

I dont see how a comparison can be inevitable. logically

  • @IchigoMurasaki, They certainly have a somewhat similar sound. The 43 thumbs up seem to agree with me.

  • @TIMOTHYSAARINEN

Yea I see what your saying I just dont think inevitable is the right term

  • they remind me of remy zero

  • i just discovered this band they are really good, also people who like this band might want to try belle&sebastian, cheers

  • @warhawkification i don't honestly see that much of a resemblance to belle, but they are good. if anything, the somewhat remind me of the clientele.

  • never heard of the clientele but now youve told me i will check them out,if they are a similar style of music they should be very listenable, cheers

  • Also check out Beach House.

  • If you appreciate Sad Pop piano Ballad and Super 8 movie, I invite you to watch my video, Have a nice day !!

  • beautiful video and song!! ahhh I'm in love with midlake :)

  • incredible instruments. perfect combination, kick ass vocals!!

  • I make this kind of music, I love this kind of music, and I love them. 3:00 to 3:15 is one of my most favorite parts of the song.

  • love it

  • hauntingly beautiful

  • SO FUCKING EPIC

  • This song is over 4 years old , but it seems that it is finally gaining some popularity now. Kind of odd how that works.

  • only discovered this band accidentaly whilst in hmv music stores. i really like them, echoes of the 60s folk band fairport convention.

  • shows that popularity is overated, dosn't it?

  • It's the same, no one in the band plays a violin, cello or viola, it's a keyboard!!!!!!!!!.

  • No, it's not. It's a viola.

  • Great song. I'm new to Midlake. Anything else worth checking out on You Tube?

  • @dazzlingdublinblue

Roscoe (probably the best song ever written) and the Acts of Man / Rulers Ruling All Things video, two wonderful new songs.

  • geat romantic song. and the model is pretty like me..;P

  • Hmmm, this sounds like Fleet Foxes playing early 90's 'shoegaze' - minus the guitars & fx.

  • I love the violins in this song n.n

  • that's not a violin. it's a Cello.

  • really? near the end? it sounds pretty high for a cello

  • actually, just checked it's a viola!

  • saw midlake during van occupanther in nyc...!

  • Coming to my town in less than 2 months! So excited!!

  • thank god none of those complainers are on their videos^-^

  • awesome

  • love his voice

  • I'm in love with this song.

  • This song is catchy, beautiful, touching and unique all rolled into a package of excellence.

  • yes indeed this song gives me goosebumps. i just want to listen to it over and over and give it a big warm hug.

  • @NedsMissingTeeth Jesus? isn't he the guy who stole my hubcaps last week?
