i got the smaller version of this deck, still a good size, but smaller than the original. i don't usually bother with the books, but think that the book may be necessary with this one. I like it alot more than i thought i would - the art is fascinating.
Yeah.. I got these cards as a present, you know any website/video that explains how to use them? The book only explains the meaning of each card, now the use.
thank you for posting this with all the cards! i have been reserved about buying this deck, i had one that a friend left, and stupid me threw it out!! after seeing your video, i think i may have to get it after all!
I have had my tarot cards since I was 9. I don't need books. I will only use Rider-Waite due to its succinct symbolism- every item on each card has (no matter how mundane or miniscule) specific meaning...I am not into Crowley (or any magical order) at all and I wouldn't touch these ever...but to each his/her own. After all, its about self illumination isn't it?
I realize that, however when it comes to the Tarot, Waite absolutely gets it. For example, most decks order The Fool after The World, but before The Magician. Waite puts The Fool (0) before The World (21) and there is a very explicit reason why. The Tarot is the key to all the branches of magic and than some....
That is from what you read with the exception of Waite. A card numbered "0" can be placed or ordered anywhere and Waite placed it specifically between Judgment (20) and The World (21). The placement between those two cards is key. The Fool is the most important card in the deck. Once I genuinely understood why he did this it opened an entire new realm... an ever blooming flower...
@MrAjax246 Plus I read that Watie confused the secrets to make sure that the golden dawn system remained exactly that... a secret. But Crowlys deck has the golden dawn secrets within the cards. Supposedly Crowly exposed the goldnen dawn secrets in this Thoth deck. I use both decks but I find the Toth deck to work better with elemental dignities.
Maybe so - I don't know I am not into Crowley, nor do I belong to any society. However, I am always curious about what people think and were things like this lead them....
@DRDNIBOY Crowley didn't expose anything, Israel Regardie published the secret Golden Dawn tarot attributions and descriptions before Crowley did. Also, this deck wasn't published until 20 years after Crowley died.
@MrAjax246 I used to be a little bit afraid of crowlys deck but it isnt as grim as people make it out to be. Its a totally different way to look at tarot. It is rich in symbolism but the symbols have to do with astrology , Kabbalah, and alchemy ... concepts that the rider wait deck lack.
@MrAjax246 It wasn't Waite's idea to put the Fool between the World and Judgment. He used it, but it's not his. It was another member of the Golden Dawn's. And Crowley talks about that, as well.
I agree, it's whatever system floats your boat, and if you don't want to delve into the Thoth, that's your business. I just think that it's a little silly that you're so against the system displayed one way, but you're all for it displayed another.
I never said I was "for" or "against" anything. I stated an observation. At a previous reply I said I was curious about what people thought and why. Just because Crowley said it was some other guy's idea to place the Fool before The World only tells me that Crowley said it was 'some other' guy's idea. Waite never implied it was his idea. The order of this placement is key and maybe you will figure out why. In the meantime, 'do what you will' see where it takes you.
Pronunciation:
Thoth : said like both, toth.
Crowley : said like holy.

one thing i am a little disappointed about - being a US Games deck, I was expecting a thicker, better quality cardstock.

@MrAjax246 Waite was part of the same magical order Crowley was. The golden dawn.

@MrAjax246 From what I read the fool is outside of the major arcana. Thats why its numbered 0 .

Thanks, very helpful! Also, and I know it doesn't really matter, but the name is CROWley, rhyming with holy. Again, thanks for the vid.
