@ahassaan Bro, I am an Indian and I have to agree that only a fool will mention Ishant Sharma and Waqar in the same sentence. Nehra came the closest to be like Wasim Akram, but that was only one season in 2002-03. That's about it. Wasim Akram's consistency and longevity makes him the greatest fast bowler, in my opinion, even better than Waqar. However, Waqar the was most exciting to watch. Prodigious swing combined with fierce pace is what Waqar was. Even Shoib Akhtar didn't come close!

When you talk about Wasim Akram, players like him are born once in a century. Waqar was lethal with his late inswinging yorkers at furiously fast pace. But what makes Wasim a better bowler than Waqar was his capability to swing the bowl both ways AT WILL with the new or the old ball. In addition, they both mastered reverse swing. So really, Nehra; not even close.

Perhaps, using the very similar Tendulkar analogy: last year (2010) Tendulkar scored the most test runs, and Hashim Amla came the closest. Does it mean they are comparable batsmen? I hardly think so.

It's a plain fact just how no matter how good a season Misbah-ul Haq has.. he can never possess the skill Tendulkar has. Shoaib Akthar could have been great but his story will always remain "if only". But I still respect Shoaib because of the guy's passion for the game. He's 36 and still bowls with the same vigor and is still the fastest bowler in the world. :)

Talking about Mohd. Amir; it was delightful watching him bowl over the past year and I really do miss the kid in Pakistan's bowling line up. It was satisfaction for the soul really to see admirable swing at fast pace after ages. Dale Steyn is the other bowler I enjoy watching.

So really, CRICKET NEEDS fast swinging bowlers. It's a shame that Amir's got himself involved in God knows what. And I believe, cricket needs Shoaib Akthar cause when that guy's running... he brings entertainment for the crowd and is just lovely to watch when on song. Ofcourse, he lost his swing too.

@ahassaan Oh, Amir was so such good to watch while he was good, but yes, another thing that distinguishes greats like Akram, Waqar from 'new' breed of players is their integrity. Passion, and passion alone was the motivation for such great players opposed to the new players. Steyn was amazing in the third game; it gives a very nostalgic feeling to watch someone bowl like that. Mitchell Johnson lacks consistency and ability to swing ball both ways.

(1) the ability to bowl at 90+ mph (2)unconventional wrist drop to the side . . .waqar used to throw javelin thats how he developed his unique action (3)slingy arm action again thanks to throwing javelin for waqar. if you get these right you will swing it . hope that helped.
