just finish reading who staggerlee was and about the history of the song, as the saying goes, you learn something new everyday, I listen to the song and did like it but your video made this tragic a little less sad and along with the up tempo of the song, I can now see what the hype is all about....nice job
"...How can ya'll dance over one black man shooting another black over a Stetson hat, but get up set over a 14 year old stabbing a nigga to death over Jackie. At least they ain't daning to it." - Dick Gregory
This was my grandfathers favorite song. He passed away 6 years ago and I still listen to it all the time. I an FAV'ing this and sub. Thanks for your amazing video
Love your vid - very creative and humorous. And this is the only version of the song I remember hearing - never heard Dick Clarks's homogenized version.
lol u sumthin else, but this is my favorite version of the song an u put an amazing video to it, probably one of the most "gangsta" jazz/blues songs ever lol
I dislike animation. I hate special effects. I come here to listen to music and watch the performers. And I LOVE this video. Made me laugh aloud. "Achoo," indeed. Most well done. Some serious talent here. Thank you.
I'm old enough to remember this song being played on the juke box in the Bottoms Up club in Dayton, Ohio in 1958-59 - one of my old-time favorites. You did a most creative job in this video..thanks.
Y'all should get a move on and post the "forgotten'" Price classics, like his rendition of the immortal Bobby Darin's "Splish, Slash", and "Hooked on a Feeling". I can't think of anyone else other than Llyod do justice to the music o that that erstwhile civil rights warrior\poet\singer\romatic, Mr Walen Robert Cassotto. And no one can sing it better for the Price like Mr. Lloyd! Remember, children, when you see him perform, it's for you and I!
LOL! This was terrific. Stagger Lee and Billy Lyons were real people and this is a true story (happened in St. Louis in the 1890s). There are a whole lot of different versions of this song (Mississippi John Hurt did a great version in the 20s). This version's always been my favorite though.
Great video. Very creative. I will look for more.

This song is based on an actual fight and homicide that happened in 1895 and became African American folklore.
The original version was made by blues man John Hurt in 1923. But Price's version is the all-time classic and still sounds great after 50 years.
